Actually it was going to be a Stevie Nicks song but Stevie was stuck and brought in Tom who came up with all the lyrics and said "sorry" to Stevie and used it on Southern Accents. Dave just came up with the main lyric ("Don't Come Around Here No More") and most of the melodic tune
Yes. Dave and Jimmy Iovine are talking about this in Peter Bogdanovichs brilliant documentary Runnin' Down A Dream about Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Actually one of the best music documentaries I've ever seen. Certainly up there with Martin Scorseses "No Direction Home" (Bob Dylan) and Bruce Sinofskys and Joe Berlingers "Some Kind of Monster" (Metallica).
This is easily one of the best pop/rock songs of the 80s and this particular rendition is excellent. I very much look forward to Dave's songbook release!
I'm sorry. It was not my intention to mislead anyone. Of course it is not a cover, but a song I think most people associate with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. What I meant to say was really just: I love Dave Stewart and Rock Fabulous Orchestras way of performing this masterpiece!
The drumer is out of this world, he makes the song by himself.

I can hear the objections coming a mile away so I'll close by saying this:
It's not a "cover" if it's one of your songs.

"particular rendition"
Ummm...this isn't a "particular rendition". Dave co-wrote (and produced) this song with Tom Petty. It's as much his "rendition" as it is Tom's.
