Disney did try to make one a few years ago but since Tim Burton owns the name & characters (Disney just made the film) he thought a sequel would tarnish the movie & name. He was probably right because very very few sequels go well with the original, except for maybe Star Wars series or The Godfather Part II. Just look at other Disney movies : Lady & the Tramp, Cinderella, The Lion King, etc.
