  • @ulallume They were just a regular family! :) OK, a very smart, gifted family!! Ha! The family picnics were great, but I did always wish I was smarter after listening to their conversations! Ha! And I love Quiz Show, too...some of the outdoor scenes were shot at the house!

  • I was watching "Quiz Show" and I remember the cover of Time mag. I was 10 at the time.

  • In the late 80's I was blessed to have spent many weekends at Charles' parents home. Being in my late teens, I didn't know much about the scandal. I was just told that he was reserved and not as friendly as his brother John, due to the scandal. I enjoyed Van Doren family picnics and really enjoyed the many books Mark & Dorothy wrote! Their property & homes are rich with history! There is so much more to this family than the scandal. I hope others learn that! Right now I'm reading one of D

  • @allergiesrusdb Really!! I love the movie Quiz Show (just watched it again on HBO for the 1000th time), especially the birthday party scene. I remember when I was younger wishing my family was as intellectual as theirs. Did they really sit around the dinner table reciting poetry and playing "Guess the Shakespearean Quote"?

  • Now we've got someone on the inside,an elections supervisor from Hawaii who says that Obama has no birth certificate from Hawaii. After the eclipse on Sunday, the jig will soon be up............................and gone!

  • Now they're saying that there's no proof that Obama even attended Columbia.

  • downwithfedr,is the second best dude on the internet.I'm number one, though.

  • Dear downwithdefr.

    Get a life.

  • You'll notice that all those comments have been erased by You Tube.Downwithfedr has become a non person. After Obama is removed from office,You Tube will be under investigation.

  • @meldrumz He doesn't exist anymore. You Tube has removed all of his comments because he posted the names, addressses, and home telephone numbers of the judges in the Hal Turner case despite its being public information.

  • You're an idiot

  • Finished Quiz Show in our ap us history class today. Movies based in fact always inspire me to do further research. Thanks for this.

  • What about the person who made the show? How come he didn't get blamed for it?

  • He did.

  • I remember him on the Today show. I was 6. I liked him so much that I asked my mother why he wasn't on anymore. She said he had done something bad. End of conversation. I understand now how he expected those in charge to take responsibility, like a soldier who kills when he is told to by his superiors, and they did not. The people who ran the show acted surprised that the public didn't look at it as a scripted, staged fantasy. Poor Van Doren and his family. At least he had inherited money.

  • @Goethefemme Poor Van Doren? He went along with it.

The nazi "I was only obeying orders" excuse doesn't wash.

  • @000266617 You need to borrow a copy of the movie MEPHISTO. Then watch it and think hard. Then read "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Fynman" and, agin, think hard.

  • When Charles Van Doren testified before that Senate committee in November of '59, one of the committee members said to him, after everyone else praised him for his honesty, "I don't think a man of your intelligence should be commended for telling the truth". In time, Van Doren lost his NBC contract (including his regular appearances on "THE TODAY SHOW"), and his teaching position at Columbia University. He went to work for Encyclopedia Brittanica, and into seclusion in Cornwall, Connecticut.
