There definitely seems to be two schools of thought on playing to songs like this. On one hand, a group of people are for a strict, album perfect representation version which may be boring to some, but to others looked at as the key to what a drummers job should be-keeping time.. The other group doesn't care how many fills are over the bar or how much you modulate the verse, or how many bells and whistles are thrown in off the cuff. Why? Drumming is the freedom of expression. Both ways are valid
This is wicked mate! Fucking hot kit as well! That's the bomb! Not as easy as it would first seem to do improv on a track that's all groove either. I know I've tried lol.. but currently only have access to a small electronic kit. Not the same! Acoustic is were it's at.. call me a purest lol.

It's funny. Upon clicking on the link and waiting for the video to load, I noticed that you had a very elaborate drum set and thought to myself "This should be good". Unfortunately, I was wrong. That wasn't a cover. Instead, it was you "jamming" to one of Jamiroquai's most famous songs for 5:05. It is clear to me that you didn't even bother to listen to the song and learn it. For example, in no shape or form did Derrick McKenzie use 32nd notes during the chorus.
I thought jamming was the essence of JAMiroquai lol. Personally I feel less is more with tracks like this - but still interesting to see someone elses interpretation. Good stuff.

I can't stand the improv fills... less is more. The bass needs to drive this song, not the drums.
