  • im usally corp style but famu is the shit

  • CADENCE......RHYTHM.....WOW.....THIS IS THE FUNK!.....FOREAL....I live in the show me state......MIZZOU hasn't showed me this yet!!!.FAMU.....is raw.....the real deal, complete package.....disagree then you're hating.....RealTalk!

  • R.I.P. Brandon L. Brown You will truly be missed cuzzo

  • Its a beautifull thing to se something that u created played by the best drumline in the world Z PHI 28 damn i did tha thang wit this bytch

  • I am from Australia and I liked it, it's different to our sporting events, our sporting events the sportsman are either having a playing football or fighting, our crowd is either drinking beer, fighting or having sex

  • Listen....Even I, who am not a percussionist knows that this is the Moeller technique..I have been told it is one of the hardest techniques to perfect and implement. So if you have not used it...do not criticize a band that does...Besides...some of us like the TRADITIONAL drumming style.

  • For those asking why so few Cymbal players..... The FAMU Cymbal line is the most difficult to make due to what they do/play during pre-game and our rattling (double-time) cadences. On Average it's about 8. My year as Sec Leader, we had 11. I've even seen a year when it was only 1. A lot of people are just not cut out physically to play cymbals in the FAMU Percussion section.

  • i think there cymbal line could be way bigger but still this sound clean for a big ass line

  • MICHIGANS AZZ GOT BEAT BY APPLACHIAN STATE A FEW YEARS BACK..LOL

  • I only have one thing to say...HUBBA CRASH CREW!!!!

  • Man is there a nother copy of this with a closer camera view?

  • I come from a DCI family background... marched DCI myself... To be un-biased here you HAVE to understand it's a totally different type of drumming and too difficult to compare... I know many guys in DCI who can play a million notes filled with hybrid rudiments... but can't play a simple groove in time...

Give props when it's due... this deserves it! Good job guys... you're good at what YOU do. Keep it up..

  • well this sucked, they dont know what technique, cleanliness, and blending is. sounds like a bunch of banging and cymbal crashes. theres no groove, its all crap. leave the good drumming to the drum corps. stupid show bands.

  • @stickzz2012 well then go watch your gay ass dci. why would you click on this to begin with?

  • @SPHSdrumline I know right? Don't know what he's talking about but FAMU has one of the best collegian drumlines not just among HBCU's. FAMU would murder many dci drumlines.

  • @BCCHSMD aint it? and i love how he talks about cleanliness. well i'd like to see his fav DCI drumline try playing with 20 snares, let alone the fact that they are tuned not as tight and have more snare resonance, which means it could SOUND dirty, but its actually rlly clean. smh.

  • @stickzz2012 actuall this is technique a very rare and old technique that most drumlines dont use but it is still a technique. and this is actually clean. and you have to understand that this is a different type of style from dci. there is more than one way to play drums

  • my 4 niggas in tha front killin that thang BCU dont got shit on FAMU Z28 4life

  • people ask me why my college band cant do this, one word. SOUTH. haha mad props.

  • Awe the Z section

  • ._______.

That's an insane amount of drummers.

    Holy shit, I came.

  • Now.....THIS is what I'm talking about! Chops + clean + groove + heart and showmanship= one HECK of cadence!

  • yeah they good. why so many tenors but only 4 cymbals? thats the only thing im against. should be more cymbals

  • @TheDesmcg It is EXTREMELY difficult to get into the Crash Crew, much less survive long enough to even get a chance to wear the uniform as lots of incoming Freshmen/1st year members can't handle the intensity and punishment it takes to play and marching cymbals properly in the "100" during Predrill. Heck, just properly executing what's called a "butterfly" is more than enough to break spirits and backs.

  • I like the comments I am reading I was in the 100 Fall 91-95 so let's set the record straight get Dr. William P. Foster's book Band Pageantry this is the book that is called the text book bible for marching bands around the world Doc has been credited with revolutionizing marching bands. Truth be told he came up with the glide step that Corps bands use & I marched in 2 drum & bugle corps so I know the difference

  • In addition we've had many people to come from all over and ATTEMPT to play cymbals but never last....WE HAVE STANDARDS and must be MET!!...I would love to have a Cymbal Section of 10 or 12...but b/c our style is so physically demanding its hard to have a large num.........

  • @K81KILLA406 We have had a section of the Crash Crew with 12 players go back & check 1992 that was my neo-phyte year in the Z We had 8 in 91

  • @greenlantern19 I think what he means is they just don't make folks the same way anymore. Society has alot of "wanna be hard" punks now - a - days that don't have a lick of hard work ethic nor stick-to-itness.

  • @z28crashcrew I was in the band fall 96 - 2000. Crash crew, we had 8 - 10 cymbals players every year i was in the band. Those sounded better than those 8 or 10 bcc cymbals. We have the Sudler Award. And they have what? Lets go the beginning they used our 30 innovations and techniques. Cymbals player in Marching 100 have the toughest instrument to play because of our style of playing. Other bands worried about Famu so much to they need tend to there own band.

  • @MrByrd2009 Who is this? This is PAL; fall 2003. I understand what you all are saying. Pre 2002 you had like 6 freshmen start predrills. Now everyone wants to go to these bs schools that don't play. All they want to do is spin. The ratio of soldiers to punks have changed now. YOU DEFINATELY HAVE MORE PUNKS NOW!!! I had someone even come to me from band staff asking me not to teach the butterfly until closer to homecoming!!! ALL BECAUSE HE WANTED THESE SISSIES TO STAY!

  • Comment removed

  • @z28crashcrew What makes the is not just precision and our extensive training but the tradition we have and love for the hundred. If there is problem with getting cymbal players. Do what Dr. James did in my freshmen year. Those who felled off the tree will be a cymbal player or not be in the hundred. Also just because have a lot of sissies remember they are only good as their leader and teacher. In still in them that hundred does not need them and we will go on the without them

  • @MrByrd2009 Man you obviously don't know how I operate. Right now you are kind of preaching to the choir. And Dr. James' philosophy is if they don't make it then they don't make it. As far as people falling of the tree and being moved to cymbals, after seeing what their freshman bruhs have had to endure they are not up to that caliber of work. You are talking to someone who prides himself on taking someone who has never touched a pair of cymbals and working to make them the rawest player ever!

  • OK let me explain to the WORLD why WE only have 4 cymbals...Unlike MOST (if not ALL) schools the cymbal section is the HARDEST instrument in the "100" to come up on (Pre Drill) and to play (Physically)...If you THINK otherwise ask anybody in the "100"...& of concept and style of playing we dont really need numbers, if think about it we are just as loud,if not louder than any other cymbal section w/ 15 cymbal players...and i must say we are well respected throughout the band and the University

  • Only 4 cymbals...

  • i like the way the snares sound and the stick height from far away, its unique. i like the way all the drums sound. good stuff fam...

  • i love FAM. and i got MAD respect for yall percussion section. i like how yall put heart into ur performances. cadences like duckmouth, q. smith and tuvok are like tributes to them. the cadences have meaning behind them and they look cool when yall play: sometimes the complicated rhythms or visuals, etc. other drumlines hate cuz the way yall drums are tuned but i know ur director wanted em tuned like that on purpose. so u have to hit the drum harder and the visual looks good, right?

  • j state got them

  • get it famu my future college

  • oh fk....crackas hating again. now i see y hhorns turns some comments off.

  • does any one have sheet music for this if so please email it to me

  • i wish they were in the swac

  • ive loved famu since i was younger so i dont care what anyone says

  • i wana march that last bass.lol

  • they need more cymbals and less ov everything else but its good

  • That has to be the biggest drumline I've ever seen. LOL

  • Good job FAMU from a former Marching Chief!

  • i wuld like 2 thank all the non ignorant DCI people on here who gives us props. n i wuld also like 2 say that FAMU is not now nor ever a show style band we actually originat 4rm the University of Michigan. Jus becuz we may do a dance routine AFTER we do our MARCHING drill dosent make us a show band. jus talented

  • high stepping isn't marching

  • umm im sorry but if u havent noticed, the MARCHING 100 dosent "high step" we MARCH. now every other HBCU "high steps" but we dnt. jus bcuz we dnt roll step doesnt me we dnt march

  • @cloud498 who told you that lie sir?

  • high stepping requires you to move you core, which disrupts your diaphragm and lungs, making it impossible to produce a good sound. marching is all about keeping the core perfectly still so that the sound is clean and has good tone.

to reiterate: high stepping isn't marching

  • ok i hear what ur saying but my ? is, if that is true, then y is it that our band (i.e. FAMU Marching 100) still sounds good? and y is it that other HBCU bands dnt sound as good as we do?

  • probably because FAMU is better than other HBCU bands. however, most if not all HBCU bands use similar techniques, so the technique wouldn't effect their sound in comparison to other HBCU bands.

  • what i really meant was if we "high step" y do we sound jus as good if not better than some of the bands that roll step? i mean by ur definition we shuldnt sound as good as we do while MARCHING, we shuld sound bad

  • who are you comparing them to? most colleges high step. and the other college age groups are corps, and they're infinitely better than any college band.

  • im comparing them 2 any corps style band. the musicality, intonation of the Marching 100 is jus as good if not better than some of the corps bands. i mean we jus dnt play loud and dirty, its clean and beautifully arranged and played at a maximum volume. no disrespect to any other program but u hav 2 giv respect where its due. n the Marching 100 does deserve its respect 4rm corps program, which it rarely gets.

  • @cloud498 This statement has been proven wrong MANY years ago.

  • @famu32 if you guys arenot a showband then how come you execute your drills like the other showbands. just curios and i mean no disrespect so what type of band are ya'll if you guys arenot a showband

  • @famu32 ive never gotten to see yalls marching stuff! just the dance drill, which is still cool, but i didnt know you guys did marching too! are there any marching videos on youtube?

  • @chappy486 there are marching drill vids of them but the main reason why you only see the dance routines is because at halftime they usually only have enough time to do a dance routine only. it already takes them 5 minutes to get settled on to the feild. if want to see their drills just look up their honda botb performances and or sprite battle of the bands performance

  • @famu32 what makes a marching band a show band

  • @famu32 THANK YOU!!! For letting them know that! I am so tired of us being called a show style band.

  • @famu32 FINALLY!

  • @famu32 wtf of course famu is show dumbass how stupid r u?

  • @1youngmoneytheif they are traditional. there is a difference between show and traditional

  • I don't care what anybody says FAMU IS THE BOMB.....

  • their drumline is almost as big as my highschool band...

  • Ok I have grown up a corp style drummer. But I can honestly say this was entertaining. It wasnt technical at all but it was fairly clean and you could definitly groove to this. Also there wasnt anyone booty dancing everywehre so that made it better. I just wish show style bands would get back to their roots and stop dancing all over the field and acting like idiots. And for all you DCI people like me that come and here and talk crap. Dont forget DCI's origins, high stepping show band style stuff

  • I give you props. You're like the first person I seen who's accustomed to DCI's style, that hasn' BS'ed Traditional marching bands. Besides myself.

I myself, don't like all the "Boot Shaking" crap. This is what you call "Grooving", in this video.

    Sudden Impact^

  • man if yall were there yall would understand... the guy, "tuvok" who passed away was a drummer i believe. his family was tanding right there in front of the drumline when they played this. FAMU drumline put a lot of heart into this cadence, dedicating it to him and his family. great cadence, good job fam...

  • Teachable Moment: SIZE DOES MATTER!!

The larger the (Army), the more you will intimidate, but not necessarily conquer. Mistakes can be hiddden within the PACK.

The smaller the army (Navy Seals), the more percise, skilled, disciplined, sharp, tightness is Demanded. Any mistakes are clearly visible and deadly.

Remember.. Both are seeking the same outcome. To Destroy and Conquer!

    SIZE DOES MATTER!!

  • they must be fuckin loud in person! thats alota drummers out there

  • Out of all those drummers, you have four cymbals.......FAMU still did their thing

  • so they can sound like this.

  • why on earth would ANYONE march 16 snares, 9 tenors, and 12 basses?

  • If you had a band with 360 + winds that has a lot of power and great tone you really need that many to not over play like alot of percussion sections do. (just my opinion)

  • still, you can't clean that. it's hard enough for DCI corps to clean 9 snares.

  • Why is everyone going off of DC?I FAMU is a show style band that has its own style. If they were to change up their style percussion wise everyone would be on here complaining. The way they play makes them famu and thats how it should be. DCI is cool and all but...................

  • still, it's dirty.

  • Ok thats your opinion but i think its very disrespectful that you came to this video to be negative on their section while they are paying respect to a lost member. But i guess thats your opinion to.

  • i never even mentioned the fact that they were paying a respect to a lost member. I didn't even know that to be honest.

I judged the performance based on their playing style and the technicality and musicality of the piece. No disrespect to their departed members whatsoever.

  • I didnt say you mentioned that they were paying respect to a lost member i just said it was disrespectful. But almost everything Famu Plays is in honor of a member. but i its your opinion and i can respect that

  • My marching band coach came from FAMU. he just graduated too.. like in the past few years. Hes an amazing coach especially for my section percussion

  • Yeah. I'll give FAMU credit on this one.Nice. I knew about Groove Theory,Melodic Thump, and Q Smith. Didn't know about this one. Need more like this.

  • FedX02: the only reason we didnt play it during TSU because it wasnt done yet. We started this back in Fall 04 and because FAMU percussion section (Z28, us) take about 2 to 3 years to finish a cadence (because we put love, emotion, feelings, sweat, and tech) it just wasnt done yet...and we can care less if BCU likes or dislikes it or even thinks we didnt wax them, this cadence was for Brandon Lacy Brown (TUVOK) and that's all that matters.

    Fall 2002

    Headless Horsemen

    BUS C

    Z PHI 28

    KKPsi

  • I usually almost never do this, but i have to GIVE famu credit for this performance. They kept it clean. It groved and had some techincal too. Cymbals did a great job with the twirls and being heard, although they are pretty small. Are those like 14's or 16's? If you had some 20's and still twirl like that, I've give yall a 9 outta 10 on this one. 8outof10. Why don't you play something like this vs TSU? instead of the lil beatt box kiddy stuff?

  • actually the cymbals are bigger then 16'', they're 18'', and for our style of playin the cymbals can't go any higher than that.....................and we don't need to play like anything against any other section..............we have nothin to prove

  • 12 bass drums that sound like fuckin toms??? wow.

  • dude trust me they dont sound like toms its the recording theres a better 1 my friends has on facebook

  • drummerman is soooo right. thats definately the camera lol. if u here them perform live, i promise u u'll take back what u said. Them scotches aint no joke fareal lol. trust me, they can hit a bass drum right

  • wat happened to him(tuvok)

  • maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnn choppers on deck man the on point but only in florida come to jsu and let us show u how we get fonky

  • holy shit basses.

  • I'm a third party, and all I can say is ZPHI 28 got S.I plain and simple. FAMU got in there chopped it up and grooved,BCU got in there and did cool, but if you gonna do all that extra stuff make sure you pull it off. Im gonna be for real, I've been sleeping on Z for a long time......until now. Good work fellas.

  • 4 cymbols mean that...the people who tried to make it didnt make it...FAMU cymbol line is not easy to make...its actually pretty difficult to make...besides they are the most active section in the band if you should ever watch...

  • Hubba Z

    fall2001 zphi28

r.i.p brandon. damn i miss my dawg

  • 4 cymbals out of all them+ The band. WOW!!!!

    DO IT FAMU

  • wow 4 cymbals

  • yo that was CRAZY!!!!!!

  • I guess the motts5 dude went and google something..but anyway great job Z I have 2 say you guys are really improving and taking your style of drumming to the next level keep it up and come even harder next year.

  • but just cuz u dont see us doin it, dont mean we cant or dont do it. we can and DO play those same hybrid and inverted rudiments that everyone else play. but back to your hazing comment (not that i hav ta explain anything to you... but i will), any of our freshman will tell you, we focus on how well you can play, not take and ass beating. tha percussion dont hit, beat or hurt any of our FRESHMAN so please stop slandering my section. thank you... idk wut u heard, but das wut it iz...

  • hey man (mottos5) i have no comments in responce to your utter disrespect for something you kno nothin about because that just shows that you still have a lot of growing up to do. but i will defend my section. before you talk about how much we haze, you should get sum substance to support your claims. because i play snare and im on this video. i've also been in corp. style for tha past 6 years. i've participated in DCI (Cadets & 1st degree drum corp.) so i can chop out wit da best of em.

  • O SO DISRESPECTFUL (motts5) MAN I DONT CARE IF U TRIED TO APOLYGIZE MAN DATS JUS WRONG BOTH BANDS ARE GOOD BUT HERE U HAD TO COME AND HATE ..Y PEOPLE GOTTA HATE IS BEYOND ME BUT PEOPLE GONE HATE ON EITHER SCHOOL AND ANY SCHOOL SO ......

RIP: TUVOK , DUCKMOUTH ,QWITON SMITH (Q.SMITH)

  • Quinton Smith not Qwiton

  • okay god damn i was makin a joke about da cadence and the hazin....it was never meant to b towards tuvok or duckmouth it was taken out of context in the worst way possible i would never say anythin like that towards anybody who passed...cuz yes i have been traind better then that...nd im truly deeply sorry if it came across as a cheap shot to a fellow drummer and if it offended anybody by my immature horribly worded comments...i hope yall can forgive me for makin such vulgar nd immature comments

  • Famu cadences have history behind them and purposes so that was fucked up to judge them in that manner kuz if u look at it hell i am a WILDCAT n they also droped a hell of a lot of sticks n plus to me theres no such thing as a wack cadences kuz hard work and dedication pulled it off to get to perfection

  • who do i have to talk to audition to be in FAMUs snareline after I graduate high school in 2011

  • actually there are about 20 more ppl n the section however a ton of ppl didnt march or stop marching

  • BCU? are kidding? that cadance u all played sounded like it was piecced together outside in the parking lot! this cadance has meaning in it..it was written fo someone who passed away and was a member of our dear section..get on our level of funkiness BCu! ull ull never be there!

  • We can all see you really don't like FAMU and that's cool but have a little more respect for the dearly departed. Your previous comments were completely unnecessary and unappropriate. FAMU has choosen to honor their fallen members through memorial cadences in their rememberance and just because other schools don't is merely thier choice. Bottom line: FAMU and BCU have two of the most incomparable music programs in the world and it's best that we aknowledge that from both ends and stop the hatin.

  • hey i completely understand if u dont like FAMUs style or how we played..but those comments u made about those who have passed away were completely uncall for i mean dont u have any home trainin? or respect..i understand all of ur hating guess what? we are used to that its people like u that let us know that we are the best and u will never be in our level..i can believe u are talking about people who have passed away in such a way..unfunbelievable u arent only embarrasing urself but BCU as well

  • Motts5 whoever the hell u are...those comments u made about famus departed are very disrepectful and childish! i knew the person this was written for i cant believe u said that about people that passed away..FAMU and BCU have great respect for one another and just becuse u dont like FAMU doesnt meant u shouldnt show respect for those who have passed..i know u have received better home training than that..BCU will never be as good as FAMU and people like u is what drives them to bethe best!

  • well (MOTT5) i hope u learned ur lesson...u got to be more careful with what you say man! i hope u are truly sorry for ur comments..its a shame if you just talking for just talking...great job Z ..hubba Brandon L Brown!

  • When BCU stop dropping sticks then you can talk about them waxing FAMU or anybody else....

    '99

    "100"

  • whoa watch out bruh i been watchin fam nd cookman for a good 5 yrs now....dis da first yr da amazing 100 aint drop a stick....but this time it means nothin cuz dat cadence was whack as fuck

  • actually they did drop stick. n just for youtube y are peolple always comparing famu and bcu. da shyt getz on my nerves like hell kuz first there both two diffrent programs for one and dam with a band with fuckin 1000 people in it u can pull shyt off such as that.

  • bcu sudden impact waxed famu

  • 55 people in the section. HUBBA Z!
