  • throttle body, very very easy to clean, probably the problem.

  • the only fix for this is take it to someone. ANd make sure its someone who knows what there doing. We had a problem with ours doing weird stuff. Our check light came on when we went out of town to ohio. And stayed on the whole time we were there, and as soon as we hit alabama state line coming home to AL it went off. Took it to someone who worked on them alot but he still messed it up more Ended up paying around 1500 for something someone else messed up then paid for our problem!

  • HAS ANYONE GOT A FIX FOR THIS, AS MY E46 318i IS DOING THIS AS OF A WEEK AGO>>>

  • @charli9111 check the vacuum lines

  • Disa adjustment valve

  • just get new intake, or clean the sensor. I had exact same problem when my sensor got a bit dusty. It all went away.

  • you have cracks in your upper/lower intake boots...they're the pipes that are connected to your mass air flow sensor...just google DISA valve and ICV valve for the e46...make sure you buy some carburator cleaner and some mass airflow sensor cleaner cuz you'll want to get all of the carbon off your ICV valve and carburator/DISA valve...and make sure your DISA valve does is not loose in any way...it should have resistance and pop back in place when you twist the flap..just google it, lots of links

  • 1000rpm is a high idle, no? My 05 330 idles around 750.

  • @silvermediastudio when its cold it does a higher idle until it warms up, at least thats what happens in moms nissan quest

  • had the same problem on a e34 535i , and i taked for a spin up to 250 kph and now its fine .. word. :) trie it

  • Anyone? 318I automatic... When u put it in D, the car idles bad while pushing the break, and actually shakes! When u turn the wheel and keep breaking, it actually stutters!!!

Does anyone have an idea what this might be? Clearly vacuum problem? MAF?

    Anyone? Please advice?

    Tx guys

  • @griffonsa I think u don't have to worry about it. Power brake works on air intake vacuum, so when u press brake it's normal to drop rpm's a little on such small engine. Same with the power steering. Imagine all the work 318 engine has to done under idle rpm's (braking, steering, lights, air ventilation, radio, AC....)

  • @griffonsa DID YOU FIND A FIX?

  • @charli9111 Nope, changed MAF, even put a new kat in. I think it's the gearbox really... not sure what u call it in English... "transformer in gearbox"?

  • Mine was doing the same thing about a week ago. It was the idle control valve. But it was other things too. My valve cover gasket was bad and the oil leaked into the valves. I had to have all my valves replaced and the Idle control valve replaced. It ended up costing me 1600 for all the parts and labor. My advice is save some money and have a certified technician check it out.

  • If the car is cold, it's normal. The car is trying to warm up, but if not, then it may be your ICV (Idle Control Valve). Hope this helped. By the way, if you're under budget, you can clean the ICV with brake cleaner or carburetor cleaner.

  • @alnpel Had some similar problems plus the rpm needle was fluctuating when the engine was idling. I got cheap on the repair and just removed the ICV and sprayed it with a brake cleaner. That did the job temporarily then after 2 days, I was back to square 1. Considering how much time it took to get to the ICV, I would recommend just replacing it with a new one. My car is a 325i 2001 model so after 10 years a new ICV is in order. Hope this helps. BataanBoy.
