I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Sports Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Mercedes vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and EFi injectors clean as new!
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old DOHC Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree
Dont forget to put 1:100 two stroke Oil API TC into the tank for each fill, because thats good for the carbs and the pistons..modern fuel does not take care of the old engine materials!
Hmmmm and these engines are reliable..really, most of the cars were not maintained well in their time so they broke...but today its easy to get it runnig streight as it should (Timing Chain tensioner etc..)
This is my all time favourite dream car its so sophisticated and looks still futuristic.
Today designers still have not surpassed this wonderfull spacedesign...the interior could have been designed by BANG AND OLUFSEN and Knoll and Arne Jacobsen its a real masterpiece !
My favourite car, along with the Tatra 603. I wish I had the money to buy one...

Beautiful sounding engine, but I could never get used to that HUGE lag in the tachometer! It's done revving by the time the needle's reacted.
killa1016 3 years ago
that's much more likely a symptom of video/sound sync than actual tach lag.

I'm amazed it started! My dad had one of these cars and when it got below 45 degrees, it resolutely refused to start.
Cool looking car, to be sure...but a royal piece of crap.
Worst. Car. Ever.

Lucky bugger, SM's are beautiful cars! Perhaps you could do some driving videos too? I would love to hear that V6 working hard, a glorious tone.
