i live in the netherlands and we have allot of seqouia's in parks etc and they are (for us) huge, cannot imagine to stand in a grove beside a real old one,
its one of my only wishes i want to complete in my life to see the redwoods in there natural habitat ! EARTH FIRST !
something i plan to do in the future, come to N california from the uk to see the redwoods,(my holiday of a lifetime). would be interested to hear from anyone with information on accomodation in the area, logcabin, hotels etc,, thanks.
At one point in time, about 200 years ago, from Juneau to S.F. and into western Montana, the region was covered with huge trees. I'm not sure why you say it can't all be cut. 98% of it is cut already. There might be a small cluster of Old Growth trees here and there, but that does not make viable forest habitat.
I do not share the sentiments of GF Beranek: "For years I've heard environmental activists cry out: 'What's gonna' happen when they cut the last old growth redwood?' That will never happen." While it may be true that the last redwood may never be cut down, it is equally true that laws that preserve these forrests can be changed. All it takes is money, greed and political corruption. I hope he doesn't think it won't happen because we have so many it would be impossible to cut them all down.
us loggers dont want all the big red woods cut down we respect them and want to keep them for others to view and the statement that all it would take is money no it would take more than that
we have 2nd and third and fourth growth red woods that may not be as large or old as the others but still are large by them selfes
@astranine Economics are the bottom dictating line of what size timber is harvested. Not many mills can handle "old growth" timber anymore. Too expensive to log, haul, and mill.
I've seen this video of yours before. It's nice to look at - even considering I hike in the redwoods every few weeks.
Something to share in return is a redwood image page. Seems that links don't work in the comment box, but Google The Lost Monarch in the Grove of Titans PLUS "mdvaden" and you should find the image page.
The forest is a system and it doesn't work in patches!

I live in the redwoods, just 10 miles from Big Basin Park. Been here over 33 years. The author's statements are true.

Beautiful! Hendy Woods in Anderson Valley is one of my favorite places on earth. You even managed to get a shot of another, California's north coast.
Thanks for posting!
