an enigmatic band, profound in scope... and i agree they should be more 'publick' ...they are like the jason patric of punk... you think they've disappeared and then out of the blue, they release something that makes your head nod while feeding your mind...
I guess the way the 'realm of god' lyrics reveals itself to me, is that if there is a heaven, or a god or whatever (and I really don't think there is), most sane people would rather see animals go there, particularly slaughterhouse animals like chickens and pigs. Just my personal interpretation, but really, if that place exists, why would humans go there first, it isn't like we treat other mammals that well... is it?
But then he proceeds to say that, that's just a fairytale and he wishes that we're true..we'd like to think they.go to a "pig heaven" when slaughtered, or something along those lines
He's saying he hopes there will finally be a stop to all francis's panic and fear..that when he dies he will be cast in bronze into the relhm of god, so he can finally be in a good place..
"To me, it marks Potemkin city limits, this Francis cast in bronze, to the realm of god"? I dunno, I still feel like that doesn't make any sense or sound like a Propagandhi lyric. Oh well.
@sakuthegreat I know what the song is about. I understand the "Potemkin City Limits" metaphor; the "city limits" being the psychological place where shared deceptions begin to fall apart at the seams - in this case illustrated by the fact that even among people who eat meat and claim to have no problem with animal exploitation, the natural gut reaction to the idea of an animal escaping slaughter is to cheer.
Still think the line "to the realm of God" comes out of left field and makes no sense.
It seems like Todd never sings live anymore; I saw them three times last year, months apart and each time Chris said Todd had "lost his voice." I wonder if he starts out doing vocals on each tour but just burns out quickly because of his screamier style or what.
Also does anyone know what that last line is? "To the something something"? It's not in the printed lyrics.
@katharina1002 no, katharina, it's, " turn around, I'm gone." this song is about a pig who escaped from a slaughterhousehouse in one of the prairie provinces. Alberta, I think.
I second that motion......... I am privelaged to have grown up driving distance from where these guys come from and have seen them live numerous times.
quite possibly one of the best bands ever.......... imo
they played it when i saw them in san francisco...but todd the rod couldnt sing anything cuz he was sick! i dont see any of his songs on this playlist either.
They play Fuck the Border and have somebody come up on stage to sing it sometimes. I saw them in Detroit and they played Fuck the Border and Bringer of Greater Things with Chris on vocals.
How long do you think till they come back to your town?
love, love, love this song. Perhaps my favourite from Supporting Caste.
