  • I understood every word she sang. What country is Sapa in? They have names that I am unfamiliar with.

  • @PVCNX

Wow, I was just in Sapa. The black Hmong there are very friendly. Many of the young girls are translators, speaking many foreign languages, but most of them speak green Hmong dialect which I am not fluent. Good trip, beautiful mountainous terrans...oh the long hiking road up/down the mountain.

  • I like her, Thank

  • These videos are lovely.

If you don't mind me asking, do you still keep in touch with these friends you made? :] It would be so sad to think that you guys lost touch.

  • @Sougen02 It's been 1 and a half years since I saw Lan. She is married now and has a baby boy call Ho and her husband is a cool guy called Dsom. I like him he is nice to her. Lans internet email has a virus, all I get from her now is junk mail. Sad. But when I travel there we all get together and drink rice wine and talk story. She now works alot in the rice fields, looks after Ho ( she's a good mum) and sometimes works as a guide. I only see Lan on my trips back, it would be sad to lose touch

  • @monkeymannequin

Thank you for the reply. :]

I'm so glad you guys keep in touch. It seems like she's doing really well, too! :D

I know how it can be tough to keep in touch with friends who live in other countries.

Hope you guys meet up again soon and drink rice wine!

    Have a great day. :]

  • Thank you for the great clip, also thanks again for taking the time to get to know our people. Greatly appreciated.

  • @ Monkey mannequin I'm sorry that I said they learn English by american missionary.I would like to tell you why I said that,I have a vietnames friend who worksw/ me he told me that, but I think you're right , I don't think the Gorvernment allow-foreiner's missionary to teach religion to their own people yet. oh by the way

how is everything overthere,I mean foods& goods.

  • @ tubxeeb91 If you really want to go in north-Vietnam to visit our hmong people,

you need to have Pastport and get a visa from the vietname government embassy

then Air plane ticket,if you speak hmong very good you don't need a translater otherwise you must to have a person overthere take you as a tourist

The best for your own safety, you must travel with a group of good-friends,and you

must know the legal or illegal law too. I will go to N vietnam-next year 2011-2012

if u want to let no

  • do you know what she's singing about?? hahah aww she's singing a love song. btw how old is she?

  • @beehfancy I've known for along time, There is nothing funny about a love song, only if you are in preschool. Most songs around the would in different cultures are about love. Do you think a young girl sings about Trucks? haha, noT. She is around 22 yrs old and when I went back in 2009 she was married to Dzom and has a baby boy called Ho. Her husband and I are good friends and they have made me a part of there family. She works very hard in the rice fields, more of a women than any in the west.

  • @monkeymannequin

wow, I wanna know how to get there. is there any programs that I can join or scholarships that i can get to go over to those country and visit the Hmong people?

  • i wanna go visit that village so bad now...

  • lolz y it called black hmong??? hmong aren't white as white trash and hmong aren't black as niggaar but hmong r middle lolz

  • @Hmoob9527 the color 'black' refers to their clothing they have one.

  • she kinda pretty haha

  • She tried to have some breast milk.

  • Tug miv ntxhais Moob zoo nkauj: koj twb hu koj zaaj nkauj tsi yog es yog koj xaav tau nua kuv maam xaa ib cov nkauj moog rua koj tau noog luas pob.

  • Hmongs are so humble and nice :].

  • how old was lan today?

  • she's adorable. makes me want to go to vietnam and visit there.

  • They learn English by American missionary.

  • @dxiong55 I see hardly any Americans in Sapa every time I go. Khu has a friend that is an English (British) lady that is not American or religious that teaches her and a group. Lan had lady that was not a missionary.

  • @dxiong55 I was just talking with my wife, and she too cannot remember any American missionaries up there. There is one Australian man who with help of other volunteers washes and cleans babies with soap and water. Maybe you are right and I missed them. I spent one month there last year. There was one American tourist that came through town and I know alot of the local Hmong, Dsao, and Vietnamese up there

  • her hmongs words is somewhat awkward. though

  • She's very photogenic and talented. Black Hmong are rare. I'm White Hmong.

  • Wow! I am impressed with these young Hmong girls. I do wish they didn't get married so young however...

  • the filming person is a white person?

  • No I'm tan with a little brown. It should not matter what color I am yes? Most of the Tourists in the mountains are White and Yellow with a very, very small amount of Black travelers. I filmed this and I'm from Aotearoa. Pacific.

  • Yeah I guess. But oh, cool. Hmm do you know who teaches them English?

  • Not sure, some lady was teaching Lan 6 years ago. Alot of the kids learn from tourists. The Germans and French don't teach them English well, no wonder. Americans are very few as some still see Vietnam as a war and not a country. The H'mong kids know lots of Australian and Kiwi slang and speak more English than the other Minority groups like the Dzao and Thai. Out side of the towns no H'mong speak english well or at all I found. You should go teach them.

  • Oh really? Awwhh its kinda cool of how they know how to speak englis.

ahhas if i could go teach them, i would.

    still gotta go to school.

  • haha...sorry not to put this in a bad way but those lyrics we're pretty romantic...lol...but i liked it when she was singing to your girlfriend/wife cause it seemed that the hmong girl really liked her....i may not sound hmong but i am...lol

  • Lan is now a proud mother to a baby boy called Ho and lives in Cat Cat with her husband who is also H'mong ,a really cool guy and good friend. They both take people on tours now. This video was taken 5 years ago when Lan was starting out as a guide and I asked her to sing these song for the camera. The song is meant for all who are watching not one individual. Unlike in the west the hills and streets of Vietnam you will hear people singing their favorite songs out loud with out any shyness.

  • Where do they find these tour guides?? And dose any of the tour guides have any schooling in English? If not, I'm amazed. Thanks for the upload!

  • You are welcome, Lan still takes people on tours, though she is a very busy young girl looking after her baby and working the fields. She was taught English by a volunteer tourist teacher. Most of the young kids learn from the streets more than one language to get by. Lans husband is a guide too. I can't give out Lans private info on the internet out of respect to her family. But she is not hard to find and her family is very helpful.

  • nice tour guild, how do i contact her? i might this summer.

  • Nws zoo nkauj heev thiab zoo ntxim nyiam kawg! Awesome video...she has such a wonderful voice!

  • she's too damn cool

  • wow! she was singing on how she will miss you pretty romantic lyrics~ lol... ok my hmong is bad, but i can understand most of it. ^^

  • Ce sont les origines de ma maman. Il y a tant de différences entre un seul et même peuple. C'est si riche et en même si triste de voir notre peuple dispersé. On se croirait au temps de la Tour de Babel.

  • wow, she sang Maiv Xjooj's song...great job.

  • Is she using the leaf as an instrument?? NOW that's what I call TALENT.

And yes, I agree with everyone else...she's beautiful..

  • Thanks for sharing this. We Hmong people are very proud of our culture. And it's great to see others learning about it too.

  • Oh, I wish I knew more about it. I learned some, in Vietnam, when I was there last year, but there is so much more I want to learn.

I am happy you are proud of your culture. That is good, to have pride in where you come from.

  • Thank you. It's just sad that the younger generation has forgotten who they are. They dont know the language, cant speak, or read and write it.

  • thanks for sharing! great video. ;-)

  • She tis cute!

  • Thanks for the Video.......she is talented.

too sad that I live too far away I don't get to see the Hmong people over Vietnam.

  • Ban that xinh dep, toi vui long gap anh va tam biet.

  • Thanks

  • im surprise she knows english.

tourist, dont take advantage of them.

  • Lan speaks English, Hmong, Vietnamese, a little French and German.Unfortunately some tourists try to take advantage of some of these kids like anywhere in the world. But unlike poor kids in other parts of the world these Hmong are tough and will kick your ass. You don't want to mess with them and their families. Lan is now married and has a baby called Ho and a really nice husband that has excepted me as part of their family:)

  • beautiful young lady! like her song!

  • I love the Hmong! of North Vietnam ! all over Asia!

    cool people!!!! much love ya'll ! :)

  • looks so beautiful and peaceful there.. no wonder my parents want to go back..

  • man I want to go to these places and see my own ppl and how they live. It's gonna take a long time til i can go there and see my hmong ppl tho. Damn! but if i can soon it would be one of the best experiences of my life^^

  • If im not mistaken her name should be pronounced "La with the (ah) exhale sound at the end" - which the name does mean what she tells you and Khu's baby should be pronounced something like "Ga with also the ending of (ah) exhale sound" meaning insect. and if im also not mistaken the youngest sister's name is just a baby nickname. ah - is the short way of saying mi - ah. meaning baby.

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for the name spelling.I just got back 2 days ago from another amazing trip with my friends in Sa Pa.Lan dose spell her name Lan. I had a few dinner parties with her and her new family. Lan now has a baby Ho and is married to a great guy who's name I can pronounce, but can not spell. Khu's middle sister cant write her name. Ah writes her name as Ah. I was never a good speller. Ga's name is actually "Mi Too" sounds like "Me Two" but I don't now how the Hmong spell it.

  • oh, im not saying that the spelling isnt correct, its just how we hmong people do the Pronunciation the name. Ah is a quite funny name. the word Ah - short for Mi ah which in america is baby. and Mi Too is the word for Son.

  • I still wonder if they still perform the rituals and everything. I also wonder if they Lan and them are able to read and write how very little Hmong-Americans know. Unfortunate many hmong people in america cannot read and write in the old/new language mixture.

For example Mi Too would be spelled Mi Tus. or if you call it the youngest son hmong would say Mi Tus Ntxawg.

  • Oh i know your not. The Vietnamese have their own alphabet and change the kids names at school which are run by Vietnamese. My Red Dzao friends names are things like Ly Loa Khe and Lay Ta May but their real names are Cat Phin and Da Phin. The Hmong have the same trouble with name changing at School so things get a little tricky for them as spelling is not a thing the hill tribes do to stay alive.

  • that is so cute. much love for the HMONG ppl

  • aww, that was very sweet. you are very lucky to see these people :]

  • aw :) she's a very cute girl.

  • wow finally a actually decent looking one

  • The landscape is like a dream. I swear at 0:11 I was lost.

  • shes pretty good at singing.

  • wow how beautiful and happy she is...wish I could have a min chatting with her.

  • This is the old fashion ways. Must be singing to her Hmong American BF. Or ib niag meskas dawb!

  • wow, what a girl, she got talent and skills for singing. WOW BEAUTIFUL. I WISH HER THE BEST OF HER LIFE.

  • oh wait is that her mom that holding her...

  • wow!! she really speaks hmong i can understand her how cool....

  • it's amazing to hear her sung to Maiv Xyooj's songs. she did not sing to only one song but two. that says a lot about Maiv Xyooj. interesting!

  • Wow! Amazing! I love her voice! It has a Chinese accent in there!

  • Lol a little voice was singing the "Kanding Love song" at the end too ahahaha.

  • 谢谢你 for sharing. I'm full blooded black Hmong but only speak white Hmong as we were assimilated in our long migration out of China. Most of the people that were around were white Hmongs so my family lost all the dialect over 6 generations. I would love to meet and relearn my dialect from them.

  • Darn, I only understood some of the words, but the words are mostly white like when she says "me leej nus, koj yog leej tws" which means "dude, who in the hell are you"...lol

  • I guess I am black hmong 2 cuz i understand everything she saying .. These day's we don't know how words getting more different.. I guess just because we lived in usa...

  • OMG i understand what shes saying shes not singing in hmong chinese

  • I thought I would never cry again. I was wrong. That was beautifly sweet.

  • Nice! Happy!

  • i miss my great grandma now..she was also a black hmong.. :(

  • No matter who you are and where you are from if you visit a hmong village any where in this world you will get food and a place to sleep for free.

  • thank you for uploading these beautiful images. it is nice to be able to see our fellow hmong in other parts of the world. it is very intriguing.

  • You are welcome and thank you for your kind comment.

  • She's your girlfriend?

  • No. My Girlfriend is the one she is singing to at the end of this video. I won a running race with Lan down that Mountain to her village. She said if I won that race I win the title of her father. At the bottom of that mountain she is singing on is her real fathers grave that we both visit. He died a young man and was my age. Lan deserves respectful comments, she is a very smart girl and has a wonderful voice. I always visit Lan in Sapa she is now family.

  • i'm surprised i can understand these instead of the Hmong Green Chineses.

  • i understand both, it's not hard.

  • they tend to speak like Hmong dawb.

  • many white hmong today are actually black hmong. both my parents told me we're black hmong. green hmong are actually flower hmong. white hmong are actually black hmong.

  • i thought all hmong were green hmong once

  • that is the assumption. white hmong today derived from the black/stripe hmong.

  • hmong are the coolest ethnic of all. you won't starved in a hmong village even if you don't have a penny. they will provide you selter and food with nothing in return. i don't think other ethnics will do the same.

  • Beautiful....

  • Was this is in Vietnam? well im hmong also but i had no clue that there was black hmongs? Is there any diffrence why they are called black hmong?

  • Yes this was in the northwest of Vietnam and the Black Hmong or Hmoob Dud, get there name from the1r dark cloths they weir. Their cloths are realy dark blue (not black) from dyeing their cloths with indigo (same dye used in blue jeans). The indigo dye comes from a plant they grow in their villages.

  • haha, do you know what she was singing about?

  • Yes a Hmong lady told me. Its one of the many local love songs all the young ones sing from the local radio station. Everyone sings in Vietnam, it seems strange to outsiders but, it is realy beautiful to hear and know that they can sing without care and any self judgment.

  • Wow, haha..she's very confident in Hais(ing) Kwv Tsiag (sorry if I spelled it wrong). She's vert adorable person.

  • black sound a bit like green.. but kinn of not in a way... thir words are a bit thicker

  • of course their accent will be little different because they are from northern vietnam.

  • Laos in a multi-ethinic community. For the first time I heard a black Hmong. How a black Hmong is distinguished from a common one?

  • Naxi2245,

Yes, they seem speak differently little bit

and wearing differently, too. But now they

focusing to become like the majority!

  • She is not Laotion Hmong....she is Chinese Hmong.

  • We're all Chinese Hmong. Although a lot of us have mixed Lao/Thai blood in us as well.

  • love it! thanks for the clip!

  • Love u, tui yeu em, hlub koj leem muam,

ai anata ga, hap chao dae, rak lae kha,

    amor tu, farahap atica.

  • Love this part of country, bro-n-sister visit if u can.. it really beautiful.

  • love the video! its so peaceful!

  • nice video. sweet song

  • aw! how cute!!!!

  • I can't get enough of this video... and the counter is wrong. I watch it over and over and over but the 'views' does not increase.

  • ahh! she's so cute! She likes to sing Mai Xiong songs :D I wish I can blow a leaf! I tried when I was younger but could not...

And you're right the Western culture will eventually meet all the world...maybe..

  • Yeah, but I don't know if singing Mai Xiong is a good thing. I just love how she wears those calve stockings. Brings back memories of our people way back when.

  • hahahah I don't know if singing a Mai Xiong song is a good thing either...but that's what she's doing in the clip...

  • that says a lot about Maiv Xyooj. she's known worldwide. even people on the mountains know her and can even sing to her songs. not one but two songs.

  • if u can whistle, u can blow a leaf, can u whistle?

  • I am so going to marry Lan.

  • What part of the world is she from? China? Vietnam?

  • Hi seize 7 days, Lan is From a small town up in the mountains of Northern Vietnam and it is very close to the Chinese boarder. It's a really cool place to visit. If you have time you should go see it before the West and China change it for ever like so many other places. You will probable see Lan there too.
