  • God bless 'em was that a freudian slip? The guy on the left was talking about his sound: " I stay clean with my sound pretty much." never heard it put that way. His eyes look like he's had no sleep or has been crying. So many people have tried to stay clean and sober in church and it doesn't work. I've watched Celebrate Recover almost kill people cuz that don't understand the nature of the disease-how do I know? 13 years sober thanks to AA and a God of MY own understanding-not yours. God Bless

  • Where is the 2nd part?

  • wow thanks for such a great lesson!!!! now i know what a c chord is!!!!! amzing dude!!!!!

  • ... lol juste lol ....

  • не умеете игать, значит будет "много разговоров и умных фраз"

    это болтуны, а не музыканты!

  • simple guitar playing, but these guys write some great songs!!!!!!!!!!!

  • cut the crap and enjoy the lesson

  • nice of them to tell ya to be tuned down a half step.

  • wheres the other part of the vid?!?

  • Dude Christian Rock and Rock is the same. Have you ever heard of Flyleaf, or Skillit? They are played on Christian Radio, and also reg. rock radio. Look up Underoath

  • but God dosent accept all "chritian rock" it can say its christian rock but it dosent mean it right...

  • When the lyrics talk about God, and what he has doen that makes it Christian. I don't think Theory of a deadman. Would sing a song about God. Its kind of like how the guy from Korn said he got saved and know is in a Christian band. With a Korn background of music.

  • And apart from his at time 'not so great' lyrics, the music is still pretty groovy. I'm a huge supporter of Brian, and I feel that he is one of the few who will stand true to his beliefs.

  • I know this was from awhile ago.

But Flyleaf and Skillet dont like drownd their lyrics and say " Jesus" in every song.

They make honest music in the style they like.

Flyleaf's guitar player, sameer, said " We dont sit down and say, this is going to be a christian song, but You cant seperate your faith from your life, and it comes out in the music."

Im not trying to argue, but I know alot of people who think God doesnt get glory if its not just piano or hymns.

  • haha and you really think that skillet band is really Christian, they look just as bad as a satanic band... and when you say they make music the style they like that dosent mean its accepted by God.and that guitarists you talk about in flyleafs band,if that guy was a true christian he would never say that, the honor is to God in everything you do,especially in music because God made it so that we can praise him!!!not so the music is to make the public happy its to make God happy they dont have God

  • I was quoting his answer from an interview where the guy had asked if flyleaf was a christian band.

You dont have to look or dress a certain way to be a christian. Again like i said, Flyleaf and skillet dont drownd their lyrics..

Just because they dont make just praise music doesnt mean they arent christians lol.

In shows they all tell about their testimonies and talk about God. When people can relate to things, theyll dig deeper into the music i think.

  • Actually, Skillet did this really neat hymnal during their last tour. (Angels Fall Down) I listen to a lot of 'Christian Rock/Metal' and I love how they use that style to reach out to a lot of young kids. Red, Pillar, Demon Hunter, As I Lay Dying, August Burns Red, and man the list goes on! I still put in some 'Rush of Fools', 'Lincoln Brewster', and 'Kutless' every now and then.

  • yeah, i like Angels.

    .

I dont remember what was said before this cus it was awhile ago, but i think i was just saying something about some people that see a guitar and think that God hates that stuff lol.

  • This is the saddest view I can't seem to grab hold of. Music is a matter of opinion, and as far as lyrics, I'd love for you to try and explain how Demon Hunter is 'satanic'. Looks are a matter of pure opinion. I think you look funny for wearing a suit and tie. I feel comfortable wearing jeans and a t-shirt. But then again, maybe that's my one way ticket to the southern part of the afterlife. Darn those denim jeans!!!

  • Or As I Lay Dying, or Demon Hunter, or Norma Jean

  • God Bless

  • Keep up the good work there, Teener.

The whole company is talking about you. (Sarcasm in case you didn't pick that up) Gosh, where to start?....naaahh. never mind. I see "brainwashing" works both ways I can overcome alot of things but stupidity isn't one of them. I'll just pray for you and hope that one day, hopefully soon, you'll see just what it is your missing. No further comment will be neccessary, you're dismissed.

  • Christian rock is a sacrilege... to rock.

Listen to Bill Hicks, be a real musicians or die.

  • Teenage, whatever you do dont quit school, we don't need you voting. Rock isn't about how loud you can turn up the amps, or how much you can piss your parents off by your actions. That's not rock, that's just stupid and an incredibly retarded way to make your life as complicated as possible.Christian Rock is about God, and UN-complicating your life through actions that promote a better life, better way and better thought process, a better you.I don't think I'll be judged by Bill Hicks but by God

  • No your right, it isn't about how loud you turn up your amps or piss off your parents. Do you know why I agree with that? BECAUSE I NEVER FUCKING SAID THAT IMBECILE!

However, rock is much more so not about how much you please your parents and and further spread the brainwashing they told you to.

Thanks for your authoritarian god threat. If he wants me to be tortured for nothing than good. I care not to be forgiven by the one whom let the holocaust slip.

  • On a last note; thanks for commenting on weather or not a should be able to vote.

Thanks for voting in the hopes that women and children that are victims of incest, rape, or are in mortal danger do not have to right to abort.

Thanks for voting to impose the theocracy which fucked us for 8 years.

Thanks for voting so that homosexuals do not have the same rights. Because we all know segregation was such a splendid idea in the first place.

Good luck "uncomplicating" your life simpleton.

  • Wow you're a moron.

  • Ah pretension. When you have no point to make and just want to defend something, say nothing at all. Just act like your better and then call in your home boy JC to make you seem better. Sorry this is a reply to both of you so I apologize for the conglomeration.

PS Calling someone stupid and then basing your argument off of.... nothing, is slightly counterproductive to say the least.

  • I'm not arguing I'm just saying you're a troll. Why are you posting you're little diatribes on a youtube video explaining how to play a Mercy Me song?

If you're looking for a more accurate definition of pretension you should read your own posts, I'm pretty sure it's full to the brim.

  • I am by no means trolling. I ran across this video months ago as a link on the related videos bar. Go ahead look through all the other videos, I haven't posted on anything else like this. I like everyone else just put in my two bits but because one person that wasn't this shit comments all of a sudden it's a big deal and I'm not about to let someone who is wrong win out of apathy.

PS Might want to look up pretension IE pretentious before using it. Thanks.

  • Fair enough.

    P.S.

Re-read my post I used the word correctly.

"On a last note; thanks for commenting on weather or not a should be able to vote."

    I think you mean "whether".

"Thanks for voting to impose the theocracy which fucked us for 8 years."

You need to look up the definition of Theocracy before you start making generalizations. Don't try to condescend unless you're sure you can hang.

  • Well for one thanks for proving the pretentious note. I apologize for spelling a word wrong.

And yes I'm pretty sure I have an understanding of the word theocracy thank you. There was no improper placement there.

  • good call...bill got it right on

  • Do you know who Terry Mc Almon is??? Like a superstar in Praise and Worship Music...Wow get into it...LCD can make any already talented guitar player play with feeling, Jimi is my man, but he was a druggy, he don't count. lol Eric Clapton I will agree with you on, But SRV - just played the blues...Blues style is Emotional to begin with, you want feeling that Rocks too? Tony Mcalpine...he's the best, and smokes all the greats - look him up and See for yourself

  • fail.

  • So simple and yet so beautiful. This type of stuff help bring me back to Christ. First time hearing your music kept me tuned into religious programs. The message really hit. I am collecting your music legally. I picked up a guitar and keyboard and I will be looking for music books.

  • c'mon musicians.....does it really matter how much time they spent making these songs? These are songs of God, and this just proves that God was really with them because they made it so fast and it is such a massive beautiful song. God Bless.

  • And Benjamin, trust me, I know musicians just like you. That's your style. You like to practice things into the ground. When you've played with the exact same people for 10 years, you don't really have to.

Your experience I'm guessing is with a laptop and a burned copy of protools. Or it could be a 'nice' studio. Mercy Me records with pro producers and minimum $50grand of equipment. It's probably much smoother and efficient than when we record in our rooms. Three weeks is totally doable.

  • listen, that's their style. The lead singer said he wrote "I Can Only Imagine" in like 30 minutes. Just because they only spent three weeks in the studio doesn't mean they didn't spend two months in prayer or something. I don't know if they did, but we have no idea how they prepare.

Plus, its not like any of their music is expert level stuff. Its just simple chords chords and harmonic leads. It's the anointing that flows through MM music, not technical expertise.

  • Tuned Down 1/2 step

  • It is in the key of B on the Recording

  • They shouldn't tell people that they only spent three weeks on their album. That is not something to be proud of.

  • Sometimes musicians write songs at a fast rate, other times at slow rate but the truth is that no song is written in 3 weeks. Its takes lifetime to write songs even though it may only takes short time to put it on paper

  • A major recording project takes time. The cost and other serious professionals involved in the recording process usually provide enough motivation for one to get started a little sooner. The reason it only took them three weeks this time, is because that's all the time they had left. You don't think they should have started a little sooner?

  • MM likes to procrstinate especially when it comes to going back to work...they like to spend as much time with their family as possible..i'm sure they knew what they were doing...doesn't matter how long it took them...I Can Only Imagine was written pretty quickly and look at where it has gone....time means nothing when singing for God...still the greatest Christian band i've ever heard lyrically and musically...

  • I guess I'm am from some other parallel universe. Musician's everywhere should know that procrastination enhances your art. Don't start any earlier than a month before the day you begin recording. You will be in no way limited by your lack of time. It is clear that my previous comments have no validity.

  • These guys are great!

  • It sounded cool. But the info behind it made me feel physically ill.

  • what

  • If you want beautiful music that is Christian you should already know Terry Mc Almon...There isn't a musician on this planet that puts more feeling in his music, True a gift of God that man has...Artist Today can learn alot from good Musicians like Chris Tomlin and Terry- That is all I'm saying

  • Terry Mc Almon? I would say Jimi Hendrix, SRV and Eric Clapton put the most feeling into their music, but that's just my opinion.

  • CaptainGarryRules not a very nice person - Christian Music is only good as the Force behind it - If your a lame O Musician and your in a band of Newbies, Well the music is gonna sound sh!tty, That is how it goes, I could write a very good Christian Song that is totally rocking, Alot of the music I write is Christian Influenced, There is always an Alternative, POD and As I lay Dying, Pillar, audio adrenaline, Chris Tomlin, all Christian Bands that are Rockin Alternatives...I will pray for u

  • nice barred F Chord, I like it - Gonna go write a song with it :P I only use the Barred F when I do the A Chord Rock...I used it for a Bridge then I slide it up 2 whole frets, I like this usage of the note, and the simple pickin style -easy to solo over I'm sure :D There is nothing wrong with Christian Music - I hate the way the World looks down at it, My Father played Christian Music before he Died, Even I play a little of it - I have way more feeling in the Christian Songs...When I play

  • watch your tongue, try As I Lay Dying, or August Burns Red, is that unimaginative? or how about Thousand Foot Krutch? have you ever actually listed to Mercy Me's music? the production the tones every part is beautiful and completely imaginative

  • amazing

  • Great music, easy anyone can play and praise the king.

  • amen!

  • I think its simple so that everybody can play it. But i understand what your saying.

  • I guess thats why your here watching?? LOL

  • I don't understand why people are giving this comment a thumbs up! What's wrong with being a Christian musician? They're trying to share their music with those who might not know how to play it. I don't see what's wrong with that...

  • They seem like cool guys and good teachers.

  • This is awesome, I just got this album. Are there full lessons from workshoplive on the way?

  • Yup, should launch in June

  • why are you getting thumbs downed? lol

  • These guys are great!

  • I love that song!!!! I hope you post more videos like this one soon.

  • great lesson and proof that you only need three chords! can't wait to see the rest of it.
