I totally forgot about this song! I was born and lived in Vermont for most of my childhood. It is definitely a unique experience. I'm in New Hampshire for college now, but almost all of my immediate family still calls Vermont home.
Someday we are going to vote out that boogie on Penna Ave and this is going to ve a great country again. It's useful to listen to songs like this to remind one's self what life was like in a republic when the black plebes didn't rule.
The lyrics are very differnt to Jo staffords. I find both brilliant and they drawn me back to a time that i never have known but they make me feel connected to it. I guess they are the most romantic versions of an all together fantastic and unforgetable song.
Sinatra's voice is so crisp and clear added to this his immaculate phrasing and the general Sinatra magic, most songs that Frank gives his magic touch to just surrender and say "I'm Yours Frank". I just can't imagine anyone improving on his interpretations.
It was my parents song too. My wifes' parents have a cabin in a small town in Wardsburo, and my wife and I "parked" by a lake nearby on a moonlit night. This song is the best interpretation I have ever heard. Sinatra sang it the way it the best it could be sung. Thank you MaxxMachine, Frank, and my parents for this.
My family and i used to vacation a lot in vermont (in the stowe area) when i was young, and every night when we were driving back from the only ice cream stand in what seemed like a 100-mile area, my mother would sing this song. and my brothers and i would be all like, "MA, STOP!"
Now listening to this song, it reminds me of all the fun and carefree times we had up there and makes me want to cry a little bit.
i hope to someday once again see that beautiful moonlight in vermont.
@MrJonk1969 Great story MrJonk1969...These songs are very special to me as I would also listen to my Mother sing them when I was a young Lad . I'm sure many of us here have so many great memories inspired by the genius of Frank Sinatra. Glad you like it and you get to Vermont soon.
Sinatra is amazing. This song is so beautiful and powerful. What a classic. His voice touches the soul. If anyone particularly likes this song, there is a great version of it when Frank did a show in Australia with the Red Norvo Orchestra. Don't know if it's on youtube or not, but its a fantastic version.
you know, no matter what song frank sings. he sings it the way music was ment to be. when i die ,i dont know if i am going to heaven, but the first thing i will do is try to find frank sinatra-dean martin and john wayne. its this kind of music that makes me want to live.
Being african american, I heard lot of great ballateers...Sinatra overrated...please...gotta be kidding....he is in Top 2 of greatest voices ever...you pick who should be number 1?
But music is good part of my live. I think it climes your totem pole pretty high too, what I am trying to say is when your said there is a song that does your crying for you and when the tension of daily live kinda ties nuts in your spirit why a song can be a tranquilizer your quiet pill yes sir bless the musician because without him a great darkness would come over the land our emotions would fold there tense and silently steal away

Over-rated? Bland? Ordinary? Are you serious? Frank Sinatra is often regarded as "The" Entertainer of the Twentieth Century -- and for good reason. His voice was smooth and effortless and his phrasing impeccable. You are correct about the other entertainers you mentioned, however, Frank Sinatra reigned supreme.
Beautiful song and, needless to say, the greatest male pop singer of all. Thanks for posting.

I am not a big Frank Sinatra fan, but I will admit this is a great version of this song. He makes it seem so effortless, you just want to sing along.

Billy May did the outstanding arrangement, and Frank Sinatra created the rendition of the century in my humble opinion!
Beautiful!
