  • I've still got my 45 RPM, old as me LOL

Great song, great band, CYO dances on Saturday nights

  • awesome.... so many memories :D

  • This song should have only one sound level ... Loud ... Very LOUD!!!! :)

  • Was a Huge song in 1987, made it to #2 :)

  • this has got such a pounding beat to it, really gets into your head,

great version, ,and in my mind, as good,if not better than the original.

  • Like drums ? Big Pig Hungry Town

  • Not heard many covers better than the original but this is definitely one.

Makes Deaf Lepers cover seem pretty feeble.

  • What a fucking extraordinary voice this man has. How cool would it be if they put together another band like this and did the RSL/pub circuit?

  • @Syburi He's doing the pub circuit a fair bit in Adelaide lately, also visits other states time to time. Still does a couple Party Boys songs in the set. Look for him advertised as either Swanee or John Swan

  • this seems to be the only version i have heard

  • had heard this song on and off many times over the years, never knew who did it though. it rocks.

  • @nonvalidOT

This is not the original, that was John Kongos..look it up on youtube.

  • @QueenReigns1 sorry, i meant this version.

  • @nonvalidOT

It may be better if you just shut the fuck up...don't you think?

  • @spacecowboy7580 or what Mr internet tough guy? get your nerf dagger out and practice stabbing me. yeah, you do that.

  • @nonvalidOT

No I won't do that as I have non idea what a nerf dagger is..I'll just refer you to my previous reply to you...

  • Happy Mondays ??

  • Great song and better cover version than John Kongos' original 1970 one. Long live the 80s.

  • Just cant get enough of this video!!!

  • I remember when this came out what a great party song!!!!!!!!!

I had the single (a small black round disc twice the size of a cd).

  • I remember when this came out what a great party song!!!!!!!!!

  • Found this video through another one and remembered the beat immediately from radio play here in the U.S. years ago!

(Of course that was when radio here actually played good music and gave new songs a chance!)

    Great song!

  • My thanks, wish I'd seen this live, it would have been awesome

  • Never been entirely sure about the Happy Mondays rendition, but this is a very good one.

  • Great clip, love them thanks a mill XX

  • nice to see allan lancaster working after quo

  • Not many bands with double drums, See my baby jive have two, great songs, more bang for your buck.

This song is pure rock, heavy duty fightin back-ground music, those were the days, a big biffo with this playing on juke-box, chairs flyin, glasses smashing, girls pulling each others hair rolling around on ground, some-body getting thrown through bar-windows, yep, great times and some twit in background singing this song whilst stomping on some guys head

  • i reckon this is the best version. if i recall correctly, this was used in a bosch ad

  • Saw this band live back in the 80's... the best fucking concert i ever went to!!! the music was raw and it was brilliant!!!

  • Bloody hell where is music like this gone to!

  • i had a fucken great time workin for them

  • @EMCEscher - to use Aussie vernacular - what a WANKER!

  • The Chantoozies did this as well

  • @J77147 didn`t have the solid crunch to it that the PB`s version does but still a good version too.

  • This version: great thumping rock 'n' roll played by guys who know what they're doing.

John Kongos: great early 70's psych-rock - groovy feel-good number, doesn't necessarily drive the point of subject matter (you can't ignore what the Party Boys are singing about).

Happy Mondays version: groovy, but kinda forgettable. Sorry Madchester enthusiasts, I know how much HM meant to you guys, but the band didn't do much for the song, nor did they help the decline of Factory Records.

  • Oh you pilchard!!!!! recalibrate your thoughts....when one says this is a better version it is in fact an infliction of your opinion on someone elses. If everyone thought the same we would all still be in caves wouldnt we? this is a great version of the original and worthy of being called so!...how does that sound?

  • Yes that is Kevin Borich on guitar and to elvenwishes that is John Swan and he is Jimmy Barnes' full brother...

  • This is so bloody good !!!

  • @simbaridge the best

  • This song is what the sound a heart should make, fuckin awesome.

  • yes wonderful of all the things you could be doing... fuck I second the motion. do we hear a third or have you caught it?

  • Comment removed

  • Am I the only one who hears Queen influence? Fat bottomed girls anyone? (Haha, witty replies here we come.)

  • Good on these boys doing this...Have always loved good Aussie rock...and Swannee you can tell he is Jimmy Barnes's half brother...And who ever hates this go and leave this place...your negativity is just stupid....

  • @elvenwishes Jimmy and Swanee are full brothers... its just that one sticks to their father's family name and the other goes with the step-father's family name. Jimmy Swan and John Swan are brothers. John Barnes and Jimmy Barnes are brothers. Sorry, the last two statements were only for my own personal reference.

  • Christ this brings back memories, this and Zodiac Mindwarps Backseat Education and 14% lager ahh happy days.

  • Alan Lancaster from Status Quo on Bass

  • Alan Lancaster from Status Quo on bass !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the best version without a doubt!

  • @nzoz1987 - here is one of my cross-posted comments on The Party Boys!! :) And THANK GOODNESS for you sharing brilliant Oz/Nz music. Thankyou!

  • Again, forgive me for cross-posting comments... but I'm looking for The Beat Goes On with James Reyne on lead vocal. Do you happen to have it in your Aladdin's Cave? Thanks so much.

  • @misscrikey - Hi there, that song is on "Live at Several 21sts", A Party Boys album from around '83 I think. I hope this helps, the rest of the album is pretty good too, they do "Bitch" by the Stones!!!

  • For the record John Swan was born in Glasgow Scotland. He and Jim Barnes are full brothers. John kept their fathers name and Jim took his step fathers name when their mother remarried. The most talented brothers to ever step foot in Elizabeth.

  • LOVE IT

  • J'adore !!

Cette version est encore plus décoiffante que l'original !!

  • Killer track !!! Swannee and the boys. Burn the house down with this one live! thanks for the song...

  • @nzoz1987 Well said.

  • @FeralasHELL Thank you.... I have nothing against Americans, but I am so fucking sick of reading negative-smart-arse-superior-boring comments from the jaded-type of American who fails to see that other countries have a far better concept of themselves than they do. The only comments about my country (culture, system, mentality, so on) are ones based on genuine observation - not comments from naive people who already had some sort of distorted prejudgement and impression.

  • @nzoz1987 My hero! Nzoz I Love your channels, you're the reason why I Love youtube and you're my main source for Split Enz

That feeling your getting is from having your head stuck up your arse and the wind in your face.

    Cheers!

  • Kevin Borich - New Zealand

    Alan Lancaster - English

    John Swan - English

  • Kevin Borich - New Zealander

    Alan Lancaster - English

    John Swan - English

  • @3dmanboobs Swanee English !!! OMG he would nut you for writing that :-) He is Glasgow born & bred. Fiercely proud Scot. Great to see Alan Lancaster fire up also wish he would reunite with Quo again.

  • @EMCEscher Just checked your channel! Yep, you're a noob that knows fuck all about music.....nuff said.

  • @EMCEscher, cool like you? LOL

  • @EMCEscher ---FUCKWIT

  • gotta love ol' swannee.

  • Is the drummer the same guy strutting around in the suit?

  • swanny lancaster what a group

  • @bluey251

I got into a conversation once with Alan about his days with the Party Boys and why it didn't last... ha ha, poor old Swanee - you'd think he was the Dean Martin of Oz rock.

  • Loved the line-up with James Reyne on lead, too, also the Shirley Strachan vocals when Party Boys did LZ's 'Kashmir'.

Can't get any of that stuuff anywhere.

  • is the old base player from acdc in this clip

  • Is the singer related to Barnes?

    His brother?

  • @drumdust ... half-brother.

  • @drumdust don't listen to those who tell you that Swanee is Jimmy's half brother. They're full brothers... same parents. Jimmy uses his step-father's name... Swan uses their biological father's name....

  • @nzoz1987 I thought they were bro's, thanks for clarifying that mate.

    Great song!

  • @nzoz1987 Thanks nzoz for that insight, ive been a chisel and jimmy fan since i cant remember, and always knew swannee was his brother but never actually knew where the Barnes came from,i always assumed it was a stage name.

  • The landlod guy reminds me of Tony Abbot

  • the guy with fuzzy hair was a member of ststus quo

  • The singer looks like a cross between Bono and Bill Hicks, hahaha! Not a bad version, production methods evolved between 1971 and 1987, didn't they?

  • Never did manage to get hold of it unfortunately. Tried all the usual download sites but to no avail. Pls let me know if you have any success.

PS my apologies for taking so long to get back to you.

  • party world world agents and ustn and jamie were got him coat hanged eve were

  • @elvenwishes thats lancaster from status quo

  • @bluey251 I think I won't forget that one quick :)

  • Isn't this song like an anti missionary song

"Hey Rain-maker" being the local indigenous population being exploited by overseas nations etc and making them take on their own religion..

"stamp out your fire, change your desire, make you forget your a man"

  • the founder member is ex mondo rock bass player paul christie

  • Waddy Wachtel did a gig with The Party Boys at the old Metro in Sydney.

  • It's not nice to compare - but I can't help myself - swanee supreme to brother jim

  • This a a great version of this song. Much better than the Happy Mondays and probably even better than John kongos. Used to have it on 12" vinyl but can't get hold of download version anywhere. Any ideas anyone ?

  • @Z1000Jeff TheHellnfire: Hey bud,try LimeWire..Brilliant drinkin song!! And fully cranked in tha car!!! Woot Woot

Could I ask -did you ever manage to get this version on download? Only ever loved this version... its the drums

    Kind Regards

    Sharon

  • @Z1000Jeff just go on clipconverter.cc and convert it of youtube :D

  • @Z1000Jeff I haven't heard a bad version of this song. The Happy Mondays put their own spin on this song, as did The Chantoozies. The Soup Dragons also used the drums at the start of their song for their track "Running Wild" from the album "Hotwired" in 1992.

  • @Z1000Jeff I have it on CD if you want a copy. Great CD!!

  • Alan Lancaster rocks!

  • Yeah thats right - theres a vid interview with Mick Rossi and the blond haired guy whose always been around and u'll see why they punted him - sheez.

  • Thanks mate for the up..... awesome

  • NOTHING LIKE AUSTRALIAN PUB ROCK

  • Saw these guys live at Waterford Hotel, Brisbane some time in late 80's. Fucking Awesome!!!!!!

  • Is that Kevin Borich on guitar????

  • yes

  • thanks

  • Kevin Borich is actuaaly a great guy. I remeber a gig down in Tassie with Gwyn Ashton and Kevin Borich and I think it may have been Ulverstone where he supplied the band wiith whatever they wanted, The baked potatoes and sour cream and cheese were smahing, along with the free piss.

  • the guitarist with the long curly hair and mo is allan lancaster from status quo.he lives in australia now

  • @mrsgritoli1 I didn't realise that until today when I saw old pics on facebook. LOL!!

  • @mrsgritoli1 yessiree bob.

  • @mrsgritoli1

    Yep that's big Kev.

  • @mrsgritoli1 John swan on vocals and in the loud clothes (I know it's a black & white film clip) is Kevin Borich.

  • omfg! happy mondays version is complete abortion lol, someone dig them an unmarked grave!

  • Great version, did Eric Burden sing with them at any stage????

  • ..dble drums.. status quo gutarist.m 2 adelaide swaneea .., what else can I ad

  • THIS is one Yank-American who says that this is one of my ALL-TIME UBER-MEGA-ULTRA RAVE-FAVES **EVER!!**

You see, I 1st heard this when the Aussie gal I was dating (She was from Brisbane) gave me the CD comilation "INTO THE HEAT!"

And I also happen to *LOVE* Kraft VEGEMITE on my Breakfast Toast...I'm not kidding.

    Ennyroad, thanx fer this, m8...

  • Saw them live at Darwin amphitheatre in 1988, they were with The Choirboys.

  • I saw that tour too - in Geraldton WA. Oz Rock

  • This is a seriously good cover but still not up to the standard of the original by John Kongos. Check it out. It still sounds amazing nearly 40 years later.

  • Yes, they were popular in the 80's Down Under, is that Jon Farris from INXS, he is a great guy, ahhhh, more memories.

Hey, to the girl i know from Texas............will not change................thinks he can do anything he wants and say what he wants. knows he has been caught out, once a cheater, always a cheater and done that before, been told he has been unfaithful to others.

  • the legend KB ..Kevin Borich ..lead guitar

  • One of the drummers is ex Status Quo.. the one and only John Coglan

  • Base guitarist Alan Lanchester (sp?) was from Status Quo as well. See him at 0:30

  • That's bass guitarist Alan Lancaster (damn keyboard, damn memory)

  • lol "one of the drummers" - why do they need two? It would sound the same with one!

  • double drums = double happiness !!

  • Christ I havent heard this for ages... Fan -bloody-tastic!!

  • wow, never heard this one before. this version is way closer to the sound of the original than the mondays'. they kept that thumping beat and just cranked it up to eleven. nice. were these guys popular down under?

  • Briefly, largely due to this song. It reached number 2 on the local charts. The Party Boys were a collaboration of various artists who achieved fame elsewhere for various reasons. The leader singer is John Swan, who is the older brother of the most famous and well loved Aussie rocker of them all, Jimmy Barnes. Love this song, even 20 years later. Wish radio still played it.

  • Great song, Fell one spot short of #1 on the singles chart in July-Aug '87 because of Mel 'n Kim or something :S

  • Quality song, I was young when originally released in 1987, but it sounded good then, as it does now. Shame that Australian radio (e.g. Triple M/Gold FM/WS FM etc) don't play it much. May have to approach them about it.

  • love it, lots of loud, roaring goodness:)

  • Well put!!!

  • 2 right lol

  • Pure Aussie muscle in music. Long live aussie music.

  • excellent work

  • It's a cover of a Johnny Kongos song from 1971. He's originally from South Africa, probably where the tribal sound comes from.

  • Is this song an original or a cover?

  • It's a cover but a kick ass version.

  • easily beats the Happy Mondays version! As for this versus the original, very tough question indeed...

  • This track has a tribal feel about it..
