That's one of the limitations of that kind of multi effect... You can store the sounds in banks and switch between them to get this, however i've heard it switches rather slow. Some multieffects can adjust the amound of gain with the expression pedal. I don't know if it's possible with the ME 20. But i think you should be able to get some kind of boost or just a volume boost with the pedal, which gives a little bit the effect.

If you create two patches, for example Bank 10 Patch 1 and 2 with 1 being Metal and 2 being Overdrive you can.
