So I commented a week ago on this video about how I failed my first welding test. Well they gave me a second shot at it and I made that test my little bitch!! Just thought I'd let you know jody!! Thanks for the tips and keep them coming!
Hey jody, I failed my first welding test last week. They called and offered me another shot. The test is excactly what you just welded, vert groove with baseplate. I got arc blow while doing the test and I tried my best to work through it but it still cracked. My question is, can I stop in the middle on each pass to try to control heat and avoid arc blow? The instructor said if I needed to stop I should do it in the middle. Should I do this to help with heat? Thanks
whoaaaaa @ 2:28 should made to passes instead of making 1 wide pass like that lol that is way to wide. if the welding testor was to see this he would stop u right there lol its better to take ur time and do it the right way to make sure u pass the test cus im most jobs u only get 1 chance to prove ur self. other wise u be going out the gate job less :)
@Krautattack0311 The weld will always be stronger when going uphill because you're getting more penetration. Think of it as scraping with a shovel. If you pull the shovel towards you'll scrape dirt towards you, if you try to push the shovel forward you'll dig into the dirt more. It matters with pretty much all forms of welding, that means MIG. MIG welding uphill can be kinda tricky, have fun!
@Krautattack0311 When you build a house, do you build it top down or bottom up? Uphill is the only way to fly for structural welding, and when you go get a job and they make you take a test, they want to know if you can weld uphill or not.
i really appreciate your videos they help me a lot. I have good instructors but they aren't always as complet in their explanations as you are. Thank you very much.
I recently completed school, but when I learned how to do v grooves without a backing strip. Whats youre opinion on those....ps, it is effin hard without a backstrio

I'll have to do this test before Christmas, practice are going very well, but i cant weave and that make it harder :(
you put the "arc force" aka "arc control" aka "dig" knob to the max ? It must spit a lot.
For now i find it work well with arc control set to 3/10 and 115 amps (1/8 7018)
care to give me some tips on how to get a good stringer without bumps ?
ty, i love your videos :)

My tip is that if you count 1 2 then quickly move to the other side 1 2 helps with the undercutting

What filter do you put in front of your camera lens. I would like to video some of my welding. Great job. I love your series!

every bead i layed i waited 5-10 min because i heard the welds could crystallize and break easy when they are bending the plate
530REDJ 8 months ago
@530REDJ I usually start on my vert plate first, then move to my overhead, the to my horizontal. Then go back and start at the beginning again.
rangaman86 8 months ago
@rangaman86 oh so u were doing 3 certs at one time thats smart. i might just do that on my horizontal and my overhead cert
