thank you sooo much for this recip! I have trying to find an easy pulao recipe for so long, and usually all the ones here on youtube are so horrible lol! I am going to try your one tomorrow, I hope mine turns out as good as yours looks!
Thanks so so so....much, today I tried this Pulao and I am jumping up and down because my husband loves it, my 5 year old daughter likes it so much! And my 8 year old son who only like pizza hut, dominos, taco bell food, no DESI FOOD he tried and loved it! I have been using Shan Packet spices and ginger powder, garlic powder, can tomato paste, I know not good for health ,and my husband's nephew who is a doctor told hi how bad these things can be. No dependence on Shan Packet masala, Thanks again
@Mahakhan2000 Great :) shan masalas are good but not for daily use and not all of them are good. Fish biryni, tandoori chiken and lahori fish fry are the best. Very close to real test. No harm in using things you use its just that you compromise in taste. There are a thousand more things harming us at the moment so don’t worry about these little things
Thanks for all the videos. They've been a real help... One question. My rice cooker has two settings, brown rice and white rice. Which one should I use?
I cooked it yesterday and it was awesome. This is the best pulao recipe I have encountered. I totally understand why you put the chicken directly into the fried onions and not mix it with masala first.
as it is, use pot to cook rice. only water may not be the same. i have never made rice without rice cooker so have no idea of water in pot. jast add the same ammount you add while boiling the rice. good luck
@squalliram123 its pretty simple, I don’t really know why bajia used a rice cooker considering she is a accustomed cook, but chicken pilau can be cooked perfectly and deliciously in a normal pot. All you have to do is measure out the quantity of rice and double the quantity of water. For example, rice = 2 cups water = 4 cups. Add rice to the pre measured boiling yakhni and cook for 5 minutes on high heat. After 5 minutes, put the lid on the pot and then cook on a low flame for 10/15 mins. Done!
Hi good day to you....would like to thank you for this simple yet yummy recipe:)...maza aagaya:)i would like to compliment you for the simplicity in which you explain things...keep it up:)
just to let you know that i added star anise/corriander and mint leaves while cooking and also some ghee and half a lemon after the cooking was completed..it really added to the flavour....take care and happy cooking and sharing:)
thanks for liking, these recipes are traditional recipes, individuals can make changes to their likings, i can not :) Even adding a single green chilli makes a big difference. hello baji, today i made this n it came out so delicious... thanks 4 sharing it n also i did ask u once dat why do u mostly put jeera directly wid other spices n do not add it in d oil initially..
does this alteration makes any change in d flavour? plz do reply
coz i always add jeera initially in d hot oil n when it pops then i add onion or any other thing..
Thats great! I have replied to your zeera question on the other post :) It does change the taste of the dish. Good luck with the other recipes you try :)
I have made this recipe countless times exactly the same way as specified, it's a great no-tomato, no-yogurt pulao. I make it for most of the dawats I have at home as it's so easy and stress free to make the masala, and then one hour before guests arrive to put it all in the rice cooker and press cook, leaving you lots of time for a last minute tidy up. And it smells wonderful as it's cooking. Thanks Bajia.
This is the authentic recipe of pulao. Hold it tight my nani jaan was 96 when she passed away. i saw her cooking this way, always. In our family we do not alter recipes. have pulao anywhere in the world cooked by our family generations it’s the same thing.
I tried this out last night, it did come out well.. Thanks for sharing.. I hv never used the pressure cooker and the electric cooker to cook.. it was kinda cool... Thanks
Thank you very much! I am lucky to have my mom here with me to teach me cooking, but I love your recipes and will make her this pulao as a surprise! Thank you for taking your time time explain everything and for making these videos!
piyaz brown ker ke, adrak sikkon ki terha gol gol kaat ker daal lo, zaarah namak aur sabut kali mirach bus. chane ubaal ker daal lo us main thora boon ker pani dall ker chawal daal lo. mujhay waise pasand naheen :) good luck
Fry onions with a bit of Jawatri (about 1tsp), a tablespoon of Jeera (cumin), 5 - 5 elaichi pods (cardamom), a teaspoon of long (cloves) and a teaspoon of kali mirch (black peppercorns).
When the onions are a bit brown, add the boiled chick peas. (you can add garlic puree at this stage but I don't like it) Fry for a couple of minutes and add water. I use cup measures of water depending on the kind of rice. for good quality basmati rice, I use..
...I use one part (e.g. one cup) rice and two parts (2 cups) water.
While you wait for the water to boil, put in salt and red chilli powder according to taste. For each large cup/ mug of rice, I use one teaspoon salt, half teaspoon chilli.
When the water starts to boil, add rice, let it boil an when the water's nearly dried, put it on dum (cover tightly and let cook on very low flame) for about five minutes. Delicious!!
hey I want to cook rice with just chickpease or whatever because I want to cook a seperate salan. I want my rice to have lots of flvour without the chicken. what spices/whole spices do put in
mery husband hamesha kehty thy tumain kuch bnana nhi aata.. per jub sy aap sy sikha hy tub sy he is happy i m satisfied.now i m expert in making pulao, aalo gosht and daal. and much more
acha, meri jab shadi hoye mujhey anda talna naheen aata tha. na koye mere paas tha jo patata na ye sahooliyat net ki. bara mushkil waqt kaata. you are lucky. thanks for liking. good luck
meri shadi ko 1 year hua hy and i m in USA. sachi baat ye hy ky shaadi sy pehly kbi cooking ki hi nhi thi. study khatam ki shadi ho gai.per yahan koi hy bi nhi jis sy sikha jay. mainy jo bi bnana hota hy main daily aap ki video dekh ky bna leti hu or itna acha banta hy bilkul meri ammi ki tra. just like expert.
hi baji kesi hain,ap ki cooking ka jo style hy wo bilkul aisa hy jesy hum gr main apny kissi bary sy seekhty hain. u cook the food which we use to eat daily.and i dont like chef style .becouse thats not the way of routine cooking.they use to put 1 tbsp oil 2 tbsp oil. it is not possible to make something in that much oil .agr aap ziada oil daalti hain to ye sub hmary khaano ka aik part hy.
This food is enough for 8 people. Divide the oil. While puting in to your plate avoid again, do not scrape chawal from bottom of the pot. thats what we all do. use good quality oil oil for cooking, not recomended for frying!
mudje karela dhaal sikhnee hain,if possible can you post a video.thank you.
and today i made paya,i dnt like it but husband do like,so cooked for him..the dhal karela is for my bro in law,he is coming from pakistan in one month and karela dhal is his favourite
I am concerned about oil uses ,specially for the ones who are learning to cook.Imagine a Australian guy using oil the way she uses in cooking and then land up in hospital in 6 months,si that fair.People dont know,,so they should be aware of health concern of using too much oil
A BALANCE BETWEEN TASTY FOOD AND CHOLESTEROL LEVEL AND HEART ATTACKS
THE COOKING SHE DOES IS FOR SPECIAL FESTIVALS,NOT EVERYDAY,DOES SHE USES THAT MUCH OIL EVERYDAY

Hello Baji, I'm from India but living in US from last 8 yrs.
I tried this recipe and outcome was fantastic. The only change i did, i microwaved my pulav instead of using it rice cooker. I'm loving chicken Pulav this much for the 1st tym. This has really proven, food & taste doesn't see boundaries of country..Gr8 & thanks a lot again:)
I have seen ur all vedios ... u the best cook ... could u plz make barven karele as well and jackfruit sabzi .. i know how to make ut just want to know ur style of making
masala bhare karele hain to recipes main. baqi jackfruit ki sabzi karachi main kabhi dekhi nahin. fiji aur india ke log bohot bnate hain. wo theek sikha sakain ge.
salaam bhaji, my mum loves ur tutorials with a passion. she loves ur calm/humble voice aswell and how well u explain things. i dont know if that is how she'd explain it but o well.. :0)
shes away so me and my sis are gonna try this out.
Please look for shahi tukre recipe. Todays bread pudding is a deformed form of that. I made them 30 years ago. Dont remember any more. I dont like to teach what I dont know well. Ammi se poochoon gi shayad eak idea de sakoon.
Thanks alot!! For the record, you are doing a great favour to people like me, who are far away from their homes, struggling to bring the ypical pakistani taste in their cuisine
I try my best to show the basics of our cooking. This is a whole new world to me, the day I uploaded my 1st video I surfed you tube. Saw some one teaching Roti, thousands viewed. I thought and thought for hrs why on earth people watched making of Roti? It never clicked even then that there could be some one who does not know how to make Roti. Have realized there is a world out there out side my world :) still learning where to start from :) questions & comments from viewers are a great help.
I have 3 kids studying, always running. Feel so bad some times that my recipe never has happy ending :) never reached to the presentation or dish :) thank you for appreciating a cook like me :)
Your cooking is by far the most authentic , the way our mothers and grand monthers cooked way back in Lahore. I have watched others but I think you are the best. I often have to fix something for myself, so thank you for making it easy and tasty. I am still learning but feel pretty soon I will be a pro, if I keep watching and learning your excellent technique.
Thank you for replying to my general comment. Many of us left home long time ago, and miss good food. So, thank you for your contribution, it will help newer generations, and some little older folks like me too. Even though you speak urdu, you must have some Punjabi background to be so authentic. I find your language very precise and authentic too. So, please keep it up, and I hope you become a big star and get a cooking show of your own.
Ko-e aap se baat kare aur aap jawaab na dean! buri baat hai. Mujh se nahin hota ye!
Main to aasmaan se bhaaga howa sitara hoon jo zameen ka ho gaya :) naam aur shohrat ki koe chah nahin! Ye to zara zara khair hai, you tube is not my hobby, na he cooking :) dekha nahin piyaz 4 tukre aur timater sabit ander :)
Thanks Bajia for the advice, went and got one right away.I found one with a glass lid.For a first try the rice were slightly under done, but the taste was all there.Next time ill add alittle more water,or soak the rice a little longer. Thanks for the quick reply.
Acha! Dont worry about instructions, always add one cup water more then rice. Like 6 cups rice 7 water, 1 cup rice 2 water. Then for pulaoo mix it when it goes on warm and cover it. Notice the rice, some need 1/4th cup extra only few take 1/4th cup less. Talking about only pulaoo. Bohot he accurate na napna pani eak aadh ghoont opper he theek hai. Pulao, add rice 6pm if dinner is 7 pm. For boil, first thing when you start cooking. leave them for 45min- 1hr easy. going out pur rice and leave.

Excellent recipe for chana pulao
Fry onions with a bit of Jawatri (about 1tsp), a tablespoon of Jeera (cumin), 5 - 5 elaichi pods (cardamom), a teaspoon of long (cloves) and a teaspoon of kali mirch (black peppercorns).
When the onions are a bit brown, add the boiled chick peas. (you can add garlic puree at this stage but I don't like it) Fry for a couple of minutes and add water. I use cup measures of water depending on the kind of rice. for good quality basmati rice, I use..
TheTubefan75 11 months ago
@kichujitu
...I use one part (e.g. one cup) rice and two parts (2 cups) water.
Delicious!!
If you make it, let me know how it turned out :)

hi baji kesi hain,ap ki cooking ka jo style hy wo bilkul aisa hy jesy hum gr main apny kissi bary sy seekhty hain. u cook the food which we use to eat daily.and i dont like chef style .becouse thats not the way of routine cooking.they use to put 1 tbsp oil 2 tbsp oil. it is not possible to make something in that much oil .agr aap ziada oil daalti hain to ye sub hmary khaano ka aik part hy.
iggy7861 1 year ago
This food is enough for 8 people. Divide the oil. While puting in to your plate avoid again, do not scrape chawal from bottom of the pot. thats what we all do. use good quality oil oil for cooking, not recomended for frying!

This has really proven, food & taste doesn't see boundaries of country..Gr8 & thanks a lot again:)

plz tell me how many litres is ur rice cooker please
morrocangirl82 2 years ago
Hi, I have three questions:
1. Why did you use white onions instead of red onions.
2. what did you sprinkle at the end? I am sorry i didnt quite catch it.
3. I dont have a rice cooker right now so if you are cooking it otherwise, is the ratio of rice to chicken stock 1.5 to 1?
vin2d4 2 years ago
1: These are the onions commonly used in Australia. Red ones are mostly used for salads here. You can use what ever you like.
2: At the end I sprinkled 1ts of shah zeerah (kala zeerah) Shah or black cumin.
About ratio, you might have better idea then me. I have never made pulao without rice cooker. Your ratio seems right to me.
Good luck!
Bajiascooking 2 years ago

Thanks Bajia for the advice, went and got one right away.I found one with a glass lid.For a first try the rice were slightly under done, but the taste was all there.Next time ill add alittle more water,or soak the rice a little longer. Thanks for the quick reply.
zasr71 2 years ago
