  • when was this recording made?

  • Just a throwaway little number recorded in his front room....this is the business. A righteous thumb. More talent there than in all ten of spurious" top ten guitarists of all time" surveys...

  • Always loved that song. Esp. the way he pronounces "sweetest": sounds like "sweet-assed" to me. Deliberate? W'e'll never know.

  • haha thought he was going to play slow down by Brand Nubian :)

  • @twinfrei LMAO WORD!!! this was cool, but wouldn't it be cool if he DID play Brand Nubian? :P

  • @JosephO75 yeah.. this was very cool, and it WOULD be cool, and pretty badass :D

  • Veeeeery good!

  • fuccin genius

  • wow.. I was just blown away.

  • Anyone know what tuning he is in?

  • @maxbachochin

    Bb

  • @clausmoth Thanks man!

  • finaly, ive found someone who plays almost solely with his thumb like me!

  • JB Lenoir was a one of a kind blues man. On a side note, I hate English subtitles for a guy speaking English, but if you're going to do it at least get the words right.

  • Magnífico!!!!

  • He's blending the arrangement for Trouble In Mind with Frank Stokes' "Dream" and a bit of boogie thrown in for good measure

  • anybody know the make and model of that guitar? it's iconic, like BB King with the ES-355 or Dimebag with the ML!

  • @jteshuwah The guitar is a Hofner 462 "Gagliano"..very rare one from the late 1950s.

  • Me... I can not Like this

  • I remember I was amazed the first time I heard D. Blues...Never has stopped :)

  • What a great singer and fantastic guitar player! Quick thumb and great soul! Who can not like this?

  • 100% BLUES

  • i mean this is really good ;) surprised.

  • best song in tha world

  • sweet tune

  • I listen to this all day

  • A pure soul. A man with no hate despite the racism in those years.

    I admire him so much.

  • John Mayall did a good one for him "The death of J.B. Lenoir" - another great bluesman´s gone. Can´t stop listening to them...

  • Oh yes :)!

  • Oh My God no wonder he inspired John Mayall, Peter Green and Eric clapton

  • Amazing. I'm hearing him for the 1st time. You know, people talk about Robert Johnson. Rolling Stone magazine ranks him # 5 greatest guitar player. Honestly, I think there are just so many great blues guitar players all equally talented. It's impossible, if not unfair to pick a "best", or rank 1 above the other. It gets even more tricky when comparing guitarists from different musical styles. 1 can/can't play blues, classical, rock, etc. Does that make him better than another? If so how?

  • I love this! It makes me feel happy

  • Discovered his cd "Vietnam Blues" and loved him ever since!

  • 6 times in a row

  • WOW!

  • This is amazing... I know I've already wrote that... But this tracks drawing me in...

  • I know eh, I find myself listening to it 3 times in a row as it's only 1:20

  • yeah... i remeber when i saw this film

    cool

  • thats one hell of a fast thumb

  • There is an amazing segment of J.B. in Yhe Soul Of A Man, directed by Wim Wenders, which was part of Martin Scorcese's Blues series...please see it if you can.

  • does anyone know where I can get a tab for this?

  • you might find a tab but youll never find this

  • What do you need tab for? He's playing it right there on video.

  • exceptional guitar work.

  • Amazing.

  • what guitar used in this video?

  • Maybe an old Rickenbaker or Grestch.. I'm not sure

  • That was fantastic. I love his guitar playing.

  • mamma mia!!!!

  • MUITO, muito Genial.

  • Genial !!!!

  • one of the greatest blues player ever, and what an end....

  • that guy has some chops

  • Precious gem video. But that treble sound should be cut with a video editing program, it quite hurts the ears.

  • This song is so cute I think I'm becoming gay...

  • J.B.Lenoir has a very special sound to his music, and it is great

  • well done!

  • this is real made, with passion of the body and soul, not commercial bull,of this day

  • LOL sorry for that, it was meant for another vid!! XDDDD great song!! love it!!

  • This is a section of Steve and Ronnog Seaberg's 1965 b/w film made in J.B.'s home on S. Dante St. in Chicago. For the original go to J.B. Lenoir - God's Word, Slow Down, I Want the Whole..1965.

  • una lástima que el vídeo no se oiga del todo bien...

  • wow this is amazing

  • The rest of the existing JB Lenoir footage features in the film 'The Soul of a Man' by Wion Wenders. It also covers the careers of Skip James and Blind Lemon Jefferson and is part of the series 'Martin Scorsese Presents the Blues'

  • Ever seen Wings of Desire, by Wim? Killer movie...as is his portion of the blues documentary. This was the first song I ever transcribed :D

  • I haven't but at your recommendation, perhaps I will :)

    - C sXe

  • It's not really very related, I just brought it up because Wim is one of my favorite directors, and it is my favorite movie. It's uh...very German continental philosophy.

  • Well, I am a big fan of philosophy, I'm sure I'll like it. if/when I do see it, I'll let you know what I think!

  • Lyrically this is a sweet as honey. Lovely intricate guitar work!

  • No, it's 'talent'. LOL

  • r u being a sarcastic, ignorant prick or is that an actual question?

  • lol style!!!!

  • Great stuff,cheers BP

  • Wow!!! Thanks for sending, bluespower! ;D

  • wow ,what a performance , great ,5 slow trian stars*****

    love light peace and harmony

    trevor sizzle

  • The best entertainer I have ever seen, in Copenhagen 1965 at a club performance with Mississippi Fred McDowell - like he knew exactly what he was doing more than any other artist

  • Short cut, long life..

    Perfect simplicity, simply the best!

    Thanks & post more!

  • such a happy performer, love him

  • I love this guy, he's soooo smooth!

  • Music is: "Key to the Highway" by Charlie Segar & William Lee Conley "Big Bill" Broonzy.

  • J.B.Lenoir: Born, March 5/1929 Monticello/MS - Died Apr.29/1967 Urbana IL on the after-effects of car accident. Great great Bluesman. The text of this blues may be of J.B., but the melody is from Big Bill Broonzy !!

  • yea hes the man with the lyrics. nothing like this today anymore.

  • You can "ride my train" anytime, my dear J.BBBBBBiii! But I doubt it will make me "slow down"...

    Yours faithfully,

    TPC

  • Shit, this guy is amazing, only wish he played this song for longer tho!

  • Wonderful!!

  • i may be only 16 but this guy is one of my favorite guitar players, a true bluesman

  • what a songwriter, inspirational

  • it is Peter Greens one of his greatest influence

  • Awesome, post more, please!!!

  • Now why don't more people know about him

  • i read alot about him didnt expect to c this rare clips. thanks alot.
