being separated from one's family & surroundings is enough punishment for a person.A common mistake is, people think criminals are imprisoned for further 'punishment'. But, 'imprisonment' is itself the punishment intended. We tend to think in a 'once a criminal , always a criminal ' way, but little do we know about the compulsion & situation which transform a normal person into a so called 'criminal'

this design removes all concepts of a prison, it's basically just a community. I'm sorry to say, I would be surprised if prisoners could contribute to society and respect the expense of the program. I do know that when prisons upgrade they will move into this direction, so the transition to regular society will be smoother for them, but this particular design is too optimistic to be realistic.

Work one week in any housing unit of a prison. One day... then speak your mind! You will know why they're in a CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT. I had to stop the video the second I saw staffs backs to inmates. I say one day and you'll see the system different. These guys are not happy, not rocket scientists, know nothing but anger or manipulation and will gut you over a bowl of soup. Any questions?

genius but unrealistic, revolutionary but illogical, wouldnt work, i wish it would. the problem lies within society. we cant change prisons before we change society. wich is the hardest part.

First of all...THANKS to squintopera for providing us this video. Already, that in itself is a BIG plus because it starts us thinking and then debating this IMPORTANT issue. I, believe that the current prison system is OUTDATED and in serious need of complete RE-STRUCTURE!

IF you want prisoners to be released as citizens ready and suitable to live in the community, you do want to provide education, vocational training and other possible sources to make sure bad people can turn good again. All of us are fallible and let's just create systems that can provide good outcomes for everyone. An advanced and humane prison system is desirable.

On top of having persons with criminal behaviors go through trials, sentencing, serving in prisons, we do want these persons to have a chance to correct themselves. The common perception is to lock criminals up, without thinking what types of people will be discharged and released out of prisons.

Sentences are meant to deter by stripping someone of freedom. Being striped of freedom is a punishment in itself, punishment inferred onto prisoners within prisons are unjust. Prisoners do have human rights.

The problem with your view that 'prisons are meant to deter' is 'to deter whom'? A horrible prison situation can deter criminals serving their sentences from reintegrating into society. Moreover, it can deter civilians to accept released prisoners for bad conceptualization of imprisonment.

The only problem is i wouldn't mind living in a place as nice as that.. it just looks like a smaller community, with more facilities than alot of places these days have.
