I read his book about Happiness. He is so sincere and compassionate. He is a special person, I wish all people were like him, then the world would be a better place. Thank you Mattieu Ricard!!!
I don't think he's real concerned with floating. He seems more interested in the process of thinking and the process we adopt in our perception of the world. Far more powerful and useful ideas. I'm not too sure how you meant your comment though.
I was just being an ass :P. To be sensible though, is it really worthwhile meditating for hours and hours each day to find some sort of inner peace, to me that is a waste of a lifetime. I would rather have little inner happiness and experience the world through multiple pleasures rather than spend my life up a mountain. Each to his own i guess.
Meditation is very pleasurable once you get into it. Being in the presence of great meditators is very pleasurable. One does not have to spend one's life on a mountain in order to meditate.
Besides, if you go about the world with a bewildered state of mind, caught up in your thoughts and fantasies, you won't even be present in the moment for your pleasures and travels!
Mindfulness practice teaches us how to stay in the moment and appreciate it. That is not insignificant!

Nothing wrong with an occasional short term fix once in a while:) But seriously, these are great, I am reading his book now and he is an excellent writer. The only beef I have is there is a lot of what not to do's and not how to do. Yes yes I understand my mind flops around like a landed fish but more practical help on how to deal with it. I let you all know how the book is.
