The reason you can't control gray squirrels in Britain is because any sort of predator that would eat them have all been either eradicated from the island or are acutely threatened. The beech marten (eradicated) and pine marten (locally threatened) are the two species that would control the squirrels, were they around in sufficient numbers to do it. Calling them "invasive species" gives us a great excuse to not have to look at our own actions for these kinds of problems.
Hi! Thank you so much for sharing your AWESOME music! Achilles Heel is ONE of my favorites! I was amazed at how well it fit to the vid...and the song 'searching' is another gem (love the flute!)...Hope to collaborate again sometime:))
The introduction of non native species is almost always detrimental to the native species of anything! Although the Eastern Fox Squirrel they think was accidentally introduced to the NW. (The ones on my NW Channel) IE the HOSP, Starlings, this certain Frog in Australia that took over...its so dumb man...man's ill responsiveness in nature ticks me off. The blatant disregard for wildlife, trees, bugs, insects to make money and satisfy ones self.
I must point out that the American red squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus) is a different species entirely than the European red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris). But great video anyway.
Thank you very much for the species names:)) Yes, I am aware they are different species....I tried to get a european red squirrel to act in this film but he was asking for way to much; round trip plane tickets, someone to sneak him past customs, fresh peanuts and seeds,..I basically had no choice but to find a local red and call it a tribute video...:))
Your description and info about the squirrels was very useful and gave an insight to their current status. The Cardinal is seen looking intently at the red squirrel probably waiting till he departs. It is such a unique scene that the red squirrel is coming to your door step. Your vids are so joyful to watch and many thanks for it my dear :)
from Brasil : SO SAD ...The animals dont guilt...human is...I hope the better for one the all !! Your explanation is fantastic ! Saúde e Prosperidade ! ( sorry my bad english... )
that's messed up. we've messed up. and it's getting worse, especially since the invention of "modern" transportation. it's like we took finger paint and smeared it all over the mona lisa.
i notice the starling, which came from over there, and which is public enemy #2 over here, is on their "red" threatened list.
angry bird!

Red squirrels are really beautiful. We don't have them around here, just fox squirrels for the most part.
