arghhhh- why dont people realise that he can hit the notes and have vocal track underneath adding support? the gaithers use vocal tracks alot now but they still sing all the notes! frustrates me but hey , such is the music industry - they have to go with the times :)
buen buen canto para nuestro Dios ...a los 4:19 wess acerca el micro por eso parece una segunda entrada pero se ve claramente que wess esta haciendo la segunda voz reemplazo de guy pero muy bueno
#1 David is not feminine, I am a singer, and it an emotional experience, especially hitting those notes, because it is not easy, your highest note can take everything within you. Singing is more than just the vibration of two vocal chords together. Especially when you are singing for Jesus. #2 he is hitting that note, I been there when he's done it before, they are not pulling your leg. I think the very end was a little rough, but don't Hate on David, he's a good man even beyond his singing.
He may be "singing his heart out with emotion and Love for the LORD" but he's doing it in a feminine matter. look at how he flicks his wrists. I have seen many videos of him singing and believe me this is not the only one where he acts a bit on the feminine side. Both him and Mark lowry
The final high note was David. Wes had the high note (the fifth of the chord) while David stepped back to take a breath, then he came in with a higher note (the root of the chord). Trust me, I checked this 5x with my piano playing against the audio (after listening to the audio 5x) and that's what happened. You can clearly hear David enter on the last note above Wes, no doubt about it. And it's obviously David because the note doesn't sound until he steps back in and puts the mic to his face.
David doesn't need anyone covering for him...the guy is amazing. Watch the other recording of this same song, and this is obvious. We don't have to defend David, though. His music speaks for itself.
Besides, how in the world would someone be able to lip sync and duplicate all the passion that David sings with???? Now, that would be harder than just singing it outright!
@dewdrop53 it's tracked vocal... whether you dont like to admit it but yes.. occasionally, they have to do this in order to aid David when at times his vocal condition doesn't seem to kick some good blasts... you notice his own voice goes off ahead before he ever opens his mouth.. Steve Green has done the same measures during his late 90's tours... David Phelps was really great, and still is.. but his age is pulling his physical strength down; but his vocal spirit is unarguably very overwhelming
I asked myself that question too. If that high note is Wes at the end, then he did an amazing job. Not sure though. I did notice him backing away from the mic towards the end so it could have been.
GVB always sings with voices on the back, and they sing over them. In fact guys voice is in the track too. Of course the Solos are theres only, but hey, singing all year long, u need some help sometimes
@CaptMoo How do you know that? They don't. I have friends in the southern gospel industry and they said that the Vocal Band is all live vocals. Signature Sound uses vocal padding though. You can't be running around as much as they are and hold notes consistently.
@adurby13 Hehehehe... I get EESS, but GVB do sometimes too... it all depends... you gotta have a good hear for that... I know Bill always use it... sometimes by mistake on DVDs, you can see how he stops singing and his voice is going...
But i mean, its ok... they do this all year long, and you have to take of your voice.
Wish granted. Check the 1/13 news on the Gaither website. GVB is a 5-man group now, with David, Mark, Bill, Wes, and Michael English. Marshall and Guy have left the group.
salipi, he's just on a resting sabatical.....he's been with the GVB for 15 yrs or so and Bill Gaither decided he needed some time off after so many years! David Phelps, Mark Lowry and Jason Crabb are filling in throughout November and December at which time Guy should return.

I have been inches away from David's mouth when he hits that high note. He is absolutely amazing. I bet it's a delay in the video.

They are using tracked vocals; clearly on the last note David is singing with himself.

From this woman's point of view it's feminine. Now if my question is this: If he's trained does that mean all that emotion he shows is just an act?

it's not feminine,THE "MAN" is singing his heart out with emotion and Love for the LORD

Esse é o cara, mas o Guy Perod que dá o corpo na musica, não desemerecendo o Wes Hampton, mas essa musica é do David.

If you pay attension David holds back his high note for a beat then sings it that is why he backs away...to get a big breath for the last note.

trust me when I say that David Phelps needs no "tracked vocals." That is definitely him and not Wes.

David is so good that he hits that last note before opening his mouth! Gotta love tracked vocals! Or is that Wes????
denrop 3 years ago
dendrop, youtube is notorious for delay between video and actual voices singing! They are not lip syncing if that is what you're suggesting!

If you have ever been to a Homecoming concert or one of David's concerts, you know that they do not lip-sync their songs.

@jorgeatalido Yes it is. If you listen, there's no vibrato before David comes in. David always is in vibrato that high.
