  • He still has a tick that was brought on by the Fluohenazine. I appreciate the comments, both good and bad. This video was posted in hope to show people what can happen but also to make sure the vets that people use know what they are doing.

  • Permanent brain damage isn't exactly recovered!!!!! This really PISSES me OFF!!!!!

  • Thank you for posting this tough video. I wan't aware. I'll remember this drug's name. I'm glad to hear your horse baby pulled through and is making the most of his life.

  • I have a filly i sent to the trainer and she did so good the shows he rode her and after that when I tried to ride her in a show she was a total different horse!! Spookey and not confident!! We have since figured out she was drugged for the shows!! Looking at others he has they misbehave the night before and are angels for the show!! rugs are not a replacment for training and like mine can get me hurt thinking she is trained!!

  • this is so sad what a beautiful horse :(

  • Tranq should only be given in case of medical emergency, NOT for behavioral issues. And it shouldn't be given by people who don't know and obey exact dosing instructions. As for this horse... I would have euthanized him a few hours in. No sense in making him suffer for five days straight. If he's got permanent brain damage, he's not exactly fully recovered, is he?

  • People who have to sedate or drug their horses should NOT even OWN a horse. Drugs are a crutch for the owner's lack of knowledge of how to train a horse. The horse owner gains respect and control over a horse when they become the head of the "herd". And the only way to do that is thru proper training and gaining the horse's respect thru moving his feet. A with people, drugs are NOT the answer. Hard work and training IS!

  • let a horse to be a horse. Dont try to fix everything with drugs.

  • I am so sorry this happened to your horse. You said he has recovered, but then you also said he had brain damage. Was the damage from this drug? What dod the vet who gave him the wrong dose say after she made that mistake? Did you sue her? I would have.

  • i feel so bad that this happened. but you have helped thousands by posting this and i am SO happy that your horse is better!

  • Your horse is so beautiful, it is so sad that this happened to him. I'm glad he is now fully recovered.

  • This is sad, i don't think the food and water is there because at this time the horse is sedated, at this time the horse is showing the effects of an error is dosage at an earlier time. When giving slow long acting TQ's you do not need to remove food and water

  • Sorry this happened, but the biggest thing I see people miss is a sedated horse with food and water, which is clear here....more often this will kill an animal!

  • Sorry this happened, you said he has permanent brain damage now? Whats the extent? Is he rid-able at all? Poor guy he's gorgeous I feel bad for you guys, thanks for sharing this, its going all over facebook right now to horse owners.

  • I'd sue that vet for overdosing your horse.

  • very very sad. what a terrible vet.

  • terrible. what was he having done that required "sedation"? and you say he is totally recovered, but that he has permanent brain damage- what are the signs?

  • This poor beautiful horse! I'll NEVER give that to my horses!

  • According to the AgriLife Extension at Texas A&M, fluphenazine use in horses is a violation of the FDA Legal Drug Use Act, banned by the United States Equestrian Federation. Moreover, it is not approved by the U.S. government's Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

  • Why was he given the drug?

  • BLESS HIM POOR THING! AT LEAST HE IS HAPPY IN A 600 ACRE FIELD XXXXX

  • Thankyou for educating me in the terrible use of a powerful drug used improperly even by a vet.SO SAD my horse is coming back from a trainer and will be drug tested for this abuse.Thankyou so much

  • Extrapyrimidal signs yes- I am very sorry about this beautiful horse becoming ill! Thankfully you had the courage to post this and educate others.

  • Its heart breaking. If it was my horse I would try to comfort, but I know thats not the best idea. Any updates?

  • One can only image how that poor horse was feeling. Dreadful thing to have happened, wonderful that he's now okay.

  • That is sick...The poor guy....I'm so glad he was okay. The position he was in at the end of the video could have caused so much damage if he would of panicked....

  • awwe poor horse ):

  • he is gorgeous isn't he. He loves running around a 600 acre pasture with a bunch of other horses. He has permanent brain damage.

  • @Kopes18 - I am confused...you said he recovered completely but then said he has permanent brain damage. Which is it? This was very hard to watch. :(

  • What a shame! BEAUTIFUL horse! I'm glad he's okay now.

  • Is this horse OK now?I hate drug inventors a tad cause of this stuff.Poor horse.

  • I like how at 2:06 your say "it's like a headache" and there's so much noise! Poor guy, he's so handsome glad he's ok.

  • oh my gosh, that poor thing. fuck that damn vet this terrible."He looks like he has a headache" no fucking wonder. If you had 3 cc's over the right amount, you would have a damn headache too. She should have ther license taken away immediately.

  • THIS IS DISGUSTING. THIS IS NO DIFFERENT THAN ADMINISTERING HARD DRUGS TO HUMANS. HORSES THAT ARE STRESSED ARE STRESSED FOR A REASON. THERE ARE MANY THINGS YOU CAN DO TO HELP STRESSED HORSES.

  • @tanya2horses That's not stress, that's a seizure.

  • heya i left a comment months ago. Juz wonderin hw is doin now?? XxX

  • He spends his days running around a 600 acre pasture with about 15 other horses, he will spend the rest of his days being loved and having a great life. I think the vet realized she screwed up and payed all my expenses - doesnt take away the pain but saved her from a law suit I guess. I pray that this video will help even 1 person and 1 horse not to go through what we did. I love my horses like my family and would never want to see this again - no matter who it is!

  • Poor guy:( I feel bad that he had to suffer because of a stupid vet. Kudos to you for being so wonderful to him ad giving him a good, relaxed life.:)

  • I'm sorry your horse went through that. We give my mom's gelding this every yr around New Years, but WE give it not the vet. I hope that vet doesn't have a license anymore. That is a mistake that should NEVER have happened. For those that do not know; this drug is actually a human drug and is an anti-psychotic. It is a 30 day tranquilizer on horses. Again that really sucks for your horse. I am glad he is okay though.

  • oh my gosh it looks like he is gonna break his neck! poor boy :-(

  • woah i've never seen a horse do that b4 && i've grown up around horses && av my own!! Glad he's doin ok now, must ov been scary for you wen he first done this. I wud ov been in floods ov tears if it woz Tango. But now i kno wot this is. Sumink else i've learnt now. Thanks for postin this. XxX

  • @BlazinMustang79 I've been around horses for 40 years and had never seen anything like this either. There were MANY MANY tears not just from me - but from several of the other riders who fell in love with Hank during this ordeal.

  • @mhunterjumper you know nothing of the back ground so if you have nothing to say that may help others in the future - please keep your unnecessary comments to yourself.

  • magnifico

  • How long did this reaction last? Poor thing

  • @marygoroundhorses This lasted for about 20 days - the vet that saved him had him at her facility for 15 days - 24/7 care. She found a drug that helped calm the side effects so he wouldnt hurt himself. After 45 days he seemed to be acting like himself - unfortunately he still has many issues that stem from this injection. The vet that gave the injection did not lose her license and is still practicing - I do hope she has stopped giving this drug.

  • @Kopes18 omg :( Hopefully you told everyone you know who uses that vet what happened? It horrifies me when they don't know what they're talking about because we put so much trust in them.

  • @gypsylover96 unfortunately the vet still has her license and is still giving this shot to horses. I pray this doesnt happen again but this vet is one that I will never trust!! The owner paid all expenses for me - guess he figured it would save a lawsuit or something. I have never given the vet's name - but when people tell me they use her I tell them what happened. I know she didnt mean to hurt him - but she is the prof. not me and should know more of what she is doing

  • Thanks for posting this. I am so sorry and I hope he is doing better. I hope this vet has lost her license for over dosing your horse. I will be returning home with my three horses from Italy to Hawaii and thought about tranquilizing one of them, instead I will not be doing anything except working with a trailer to help him with his claustrophobia. Sorry for your baby and thanks for letting us know about this dangerous drug.

  • thanks for sharing, I know ppl who have used this and am not impressed. so not worth it. I am sad watching this and glad he came thru it ok. - Dima

  • I still cry when I see it. He was doing realloy well but has been really showing signs of brain damage - he will spend his life in my pasture - on trail rides - and just being loved.

  • this is a common well documented side effect of this drug. this drug is commonly used as a liquid lunge line to control unmanageable horse escpecially by race trainers.

  • its side effects are caused by its inhibition of the neurotransmitte dopamine which in horses creates these symptoms known as extrapyrimidal signs. Most vet will refuse to sell or use this drug due to side effects. IN the colleges we are taught that first and formost never use this drug, 1 in 100 horses get reactions irregardless of dose.

  • I wish the vet would have told me about the side effects - other than being jittery like she told me. I hope that the posting of this video will make at least 1 person not use this drug. Thank God the vet I have now is amazing and I trust her 100%.

  • @alegniadigger I think this vet needs to read some of these posts - maybe she could learn a bit about a drug she recommends and administers. None of the vets in my home town will use it - I find it very very hard to trust any vet now due to this. Fortunately there are now 3 that I will trust - I wont bad mouth the vet that gave the shot but I will advise people of what happened.

  • @alegniadigger I wish the vet that gave it and suggested that would have told me. She told me the ONLY side effect is the jitters. A little wrong on that one I think.

  • @alegniadigger Then those 'unmanageable horses' need better trainers, not f#$&ing drugs as an easy fix!

  • poor baby:( good that he recovered:)

kno wonder hes wearing boots tho!!

    is he ur horse?

  • @icehorse91 we bandaged his legs because he was so violent with his pawing that we were worried for his safety. He will never be the same horse, but I am thankful that he is alive - he is spending his days running around a 300 acre pasture and being rode on the trails. He deserves a happy ending after all he went through

  • @icehorse91 we put the boots on him because he was pawing so violently that he was cutting his legs. Yes he is my horse

  • that bought tears to my eyes.

  • thats so awfull...cant imagine whats going on his head, poor thing.

So sorry you had to go through that..

  • Thankyou for bravely posting this video. I'm sorry your horse had to suffer in this way. This drug has been recommended to some people for mares that reject their foals, without any mention of the risk of side effects.

    Glad he has recoverred.

  • @brokefordstud that was the worst part. The vet that gave the drug knew nothing of side effects of possible out come. It makes me real sad that there are vets out there that recommend and administer drugs without knowing the side effects or the end result. I will NEVER take any animal to that vet again.

  • Aww poor baby...

    Is he ok now?

  • Poor boy, it's great to know that he's doing better now. Any time my veterinarian wants to use anti-psychotics to tranquilize my horses I refuse for this very reason.

  • is he ok now?

  • He is doing great now - you would never know he had gone through this. It brough us closer than ever before. He is doing really well though.

  • why was he given more than 2cc?

    was it on purpose?

    i find this very disturbing

but i want to find out why he was given more than 2 ccs

  • I don't know why he was given more than 2 cc's - it was the vet that decided the dose. I don't think the vet was very educated in the drug - unfortunately it was my horse that suffered for it

  • man that sucks.......poor horse!

  • It was recommended by a vet and given by a vet.
