The Tempest look sexier, they both seem to be the same. I was going to buy both but i'll just get the Tempest. I wish the Prophet 08 had the keyboard knobs. It sucks that they used those cheap ass looking knobs.
They are two totally different things. MPC is a production station for samples. This videos showcases rack mount synth modules. For synthesis. Not sampling.
If you check Roger's site, he says in Dec 2009 the plans had changed in order to make a better machine for a better price point, and a more targeted audience than both he and Dave's together (does that mean no Curtis chips for filters in Linn Drum II?) But right now, it's still vapor, with no release date set.
I liked the look of the 2nd prototype better than the 3rd personally, but both look nice.
Let's hope he gets it done in 2010, and if it takes longer to get it right, so be it.
linndrum changed the world..and i seriopusly mean that...the whole prince thing all the guys he produced from the time he was producing ALL of them used the linndrumm machine..it put alot of session drummers out of biz too..some people love them others hate them..for me though, im a bass player and i see it as a tool to work with and to use in a band if i can find one in this shitty cleveland ohio area..dance music is my thing baby....im going to buy this thing when it comes out..heard its 1500$

Awesome!
I've seen the digital photo mockups but its even more impressive as a physical one.
I'll definitely be hopping ship from akai/numark when Mr. Linn is finally done.
