Do you change the oil filter too or every 3rd (18000km) oil change as owner manual suggests? What is your thought?
Yesterday I was viewing the oil level in the sight glass and noticed the drain bolt under the lower cowl. I don't think it has to be removed to access this bolt, thus saving time and possibility of unnecessary handling of part(s).
im planing on getting a burg and i got a deal on a standart04 with not even 2500 miles on it for like half of what they cost new. but i alwatys wanted the exec cuz its got the electric shield and the power mirrors. are there any other extra options in the exec models that u are aware of. is it worth going for the exe ledudes? thanks in advance .
@Moroccan4lifeone buy the Exec if you want ABS, it's the primary feature that should motivate you.. the folding mirrors are a gimic, you can do better with a tall aftermarket windshield. I have a std 04 and love it.
@Moroccan4lifeone it's my oil of choice for all of my motorcycles, works well in all climates all year round... choose the oil that best suites your needs, lots of options out there.
@LeDude00 yeah but that looks like car motor oil isnt there 4 stroke motorcycle oil specially designed for bikes? especially those that have crank /clutch and motor together in the same case?
Do you know if Shell rotella 5w-40 full synthetic has anti-foaming propertys? I have heard that this is the reason for using motorcycle oils in motorcycles because of the oil foaming in the clutch system.
Thank you for this great fool-proof guide, it saved me quite a lot of money and provided a satisfying bonding opportunity. What was not quite so satisfying was forgetting your clearly flagged-up cardinal rule of not running the engine with the oil cap off, then revving it. The results are spectacularly predictable and caused much mirth. Still, you only do it once...or do you?
@VickersDoorter Glad to be of service... I have heard that leaving the oil filler cap is a good way to do some creative oil painting / art work... we all learn from out mistakes.. all the best...
My first oil change on anything but a lawn mower... Took about 6 hours including trips to buy stuff. 1st trip I bought 1/2" drive metric sockets when I should have bought 3/8 so there was my second trip. Then the oil jug spigot with the on/off valve that seemed like a great idea at Walmart didn't stay on the jug. After cleaning up the mess, another trip to buy a proper funnel. I COULD NOT HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOUR VIDEOS!. Thank you SO much! Next time will be a piece of cake.
I replace mine as needed based on their condition which is every 3-4th oil change. Try a few independent shops for cheaper washers, they usually cost around 0.50-1.00 dollar, or pay a visit to your favorite auto supply store. Be sure you know the size.
wow. thanks for all the info.I found exactly what I was looking for...you rock LeDude!

No F1 codes on my std 04 650 with 47k miles on it, at least not yet...

Thank you for the advice. Your vids are excellent.
Have you had past problems with the "FI" error code appearing on the console?

I change my oils every 5k miles now that I am out of warranty, that includes a new oil filter at each change.
I always take the tupperware off which gives me a chance to do some inspections and cleaning steps.

at 1:22 it says "drain old oil"
then afterward it says start engine and run 2-3 minutes.
you should fix that. some idiot is gonna read it not knowing a damn thing and actually do what it says to do.
docstruthers 1 year ago
@docstruthers what you are referring to the title for the sub-section where you begin the steps to drain the old oil...
LeDude00 1 year ago
@LeDude00 I know what it is and what it means?
BUT I'm just saying you should change it cuz it's misleading.

Should the drain plug gaskets be replaced at every oil change?
Where is the best place to pirchase new plug gaskets? My dealer charged me nearly $3.00 per piece for them.
