Well, it is a hack. Wish I could say I "figured it out" but it was actually a bug in a texturecoord calculation in another effect that just happened to look good!
OK, What I was asking on the other clip was if the model obscures the light source, does the effect then get clipped due to the model blocking the light?
Just like if you put your hand up in strong sun light to shield your eyes, does the model block the effect or does the effect carry on regardless...?
Wow this is some impressive work, looks like i still have long ways to go :P

Ah, phew.. hmm. Yes, it could, but you'd have to test if the model occluded the light source

The hack? Sure, if you want it. It is a hack and won't work in every situation, but it can be made to do so I think.
