It's not TV and it's not about the actual Island of Rhodes. It's only interesting because it's Sergio Leone's directorial debut, at least where he was officially credited. He's a very famous movie director, in case that needs explaining as well...
It is the ACTUAL island of Rhodes. The Colossus of Rhodes was the biggest statue ever built at the time, and it has been imitated across centuries, like the statue of emperor Nero in Rome- called the Colosseum - later demolished, which stood next to the amphitheatre which took its name. A modern example is the Statue Of Liberty in New York City. And the film is interesting because based on history, apart from being Sergio Leone's debut as film director
You're from Rhodes and you don't know that in antiquity (around 280 bc) there was a giant statue of Helios which was one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world? Have you never been to school? Where do they get it from? It's called History! The ignorance of people who dare to leave comments on YT is just astounding... oh my God indeed!
@kidcalabria You're so right! Its so sad that the study of ... and love of ... history is a thing of the past. Since relocating to the UK and working with all British people, I can't believe how ignorant they are of their own history. They nothing of the Plantagenets, the Wars of the Roses, Agincourt or even the English Civil War. They've never heard of any of these major events in their own past. Some people at work haven't even heard of Pompeii!!! Its all so depressing and tragic.
Hilarious...!
