@musique1975 Thx. This video was shot about 3 years ago. We did have Sid outside before when he was younger to see if he would stay around us. He got scared and flew off. We went the direction he flew and heard him calling for us. Following his call we found him hidden and scared in a pine tree I think. We caught him and decided he did not prefer the outdoors by any means. So no I don't think Sid would fly away on purpose, but out of scared-om.
haha, so cute. do your friends make fun of you for having a pet sparrow? We recently rescued a baby from our friends cat who was batting it around the floor, he's still a baby but so tame and gets along well with our other birds (budgies) but everyone thinks we're nuts when we tell them we have a pet sparrow! :)
@laurienkate When we tell people we have sparrows, they at first are like cool, and then they realize we said sparrow. They usually have a 10 second realization of what we said.. To break them out of their trans we tell them how we got them and proceed from there. Sid is the one that likes people the most, so usually when we she them our birds, they are most interested in him.
@reyjeffaidendx actually we have acquired 2 other baby sparrows, so now there's a noisy trio living in our house. They don't seem to like each other very much, but they sure like to sing/ tweet together.
@reyjeffaidendx He has collected 2 other sparrow friends over the years. One is a girl named little thing or Petunia(over half a year now and we still can't decide on a final name), and Baby Bird which we received a year or two after Sid
My little girly Leonard (yes, girl.. LOL) is just like that. exept she hates baths.... and if we open the cage door, WABAM! she flies right at me, haha. she loves to climb in my hair and just sit there as i do things :PP luckily she never poops... shes still young and learning, so she is still living mainly off of soggy dog food. we feed her also lots of meats, yogurt, and fruit, what do you feed yours as an adult diet? i am so curious to know.
@reginahorse We feed them a Finch bird seed diet. they really like millet sprays too, or like in petco you can get these things that look like bread on a stick and they like those too. I think we mostly buy or finch bird seed at petsmart and petco. let me know if you need more info!
Hi, I've rescued a baby sparrow recently from a stray cat who took her out of her nest near my house. She's about the size of a bottle of liquid paper and around her neck and under her wings she's still bare of feathers. I've been feeding her and she loves company (she hates when I put her back in the cage I'm keeping her in and would rather sleep in my hand then the nest I've made for her)
@lionheartrocks78 nope, Sid's an awesome flyer, but our other sparrow BabyBird isn't so good at that, he has a hurt wing and bad toe, so he gets too high in altitude and then ends out crash landing
what do you feed him because i have a house sparrow i found as a chick now its almost ready to fly and im still hand feeding it do they eat parakeet seeds??
we get our food from Petco for them mostly. They LOVE millet, and we also buy them finch food. just leave some food next to the bird and keep hand feeding it. It will adventually start eating the seeds, but still hand feed a little cuz they fail at eating them at first. lol Baby Bird our other pet sparrow pretty much just ate them whole to start with and then got the idea of taking the shell off.
Very cute sparrow! I raised a couple of sparrows that fell out of their nest when I was a kid. One was especially very friendly. I would take her outside, and she would always fly back on my shoulder when I was going in the house. She loved to crawl into my pant-leg and fall asleep in there, and would land on the rim of your cup and take a drink of whatever you were having when you weren't looking. She was an awesome pet.
aww! thats really sad (not being sarcastic...it is sad =( ) but tell her that she shouldnt be self concious....im fat and i wear spandex to the barn everyday! tehe
I think the males are far more open and attached to people as far as birds go. My girlie sparrow used to be very detached too but she would still fly to be with me sometimes. But I think it might partially had to do with my male sparrow who was very territorial and hogging me all to himself.
Sid is just gorgeous and the video, FANTASTIC and the cuddling of 'Mum and Dad' was so familiar, we are always being used as 'human towels'. Spoggy sits on his 'Dad' and watches TV just like your Sid. Thanks so much for posting this. he sure has some toys in that cage, even a yellow surfboard! Ok,I know, it's cuttlefish right, but yes,he is a spoiled little sparrow and rightly so. You have obviously done a fantastic job in raising him -5 STARS AND FAVOURITED! Love from Susan & Spoggy in Tasmania
Absolutely adorable!, I saved a robin a few summers back, theres a video on my channel of him :)
