  • Young mc, know how, classic!!!!!

  • sasha dropping young mc - awesome!!! takes me back to my first nite at the hac - mike pickering on the decks and then legends in warrington :)

  • fingy5515..no way, yeah..I remember that man..I was so off my head it was apparently happening right next to me but I was totally oblivious to it!..my mates had to come and rescue me..lol..happy days!..well..if you weren't one of the bouncers!

  • tuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuune

  • Yeah . Remember Barberello's Orlando?

  • Sasha? as in the trance DJ?...

  • @bottle2lip the very same, just like ten years earlier.

  • @bottle2lip Yes. History is amazing stuff, huh

  • @bottle2lip No Sasha Baron Cohen the guy who plays Ali G

  • remember one night in there a guy pulled a knife in the toilets on me mate cos he wanted his trainers.good times.sad there are no movements coming thru for the kids thesedays

  • @MrChubbyness agreed ... that is why it is so critically important the kids these days know of the breakthroughs of the past ... this movement is of equal importance to the Renaissance movement of the 1500's ... and people will marvel at it for centuries to come ... and the Renaissance had a second wave ... aside from all that ... I am one of the kids ... and I have an inexplicable respect for those like yourself that were there since the beginning!

  • heard sasha drop young mc loads of times, fuck i used to love sasha when i was off it!!!

    dont tell my daughter haaaaaaa!

  • @ianbrownshairdo I have a tremendous amount of respect for this statememt

  • Main stage, dance floor or podiums ??? where was your chosen spot ?

  • @Glenn2601 anywhere but the dancefloor,n podiums,to busy workin it lad! TOMO (blackpool)

  • Did anyone go to the Delight gig ?

  • Am I the only one that remembers this - At the end of the night the house lights went up - there was a siren noise that marked the end of the night and we just carried on dancing - the music rattling around inside us. The bouncers even let us carry on until it was out of us.Then outside a few more would be going at it on the crash barriers facing The City Arms pub. I wonder if the occupants can stilll hear the beats in the walls when its really quiet and late at night - Like an eternal spirit

  • @Glenn2601 I always hope that them new flats are a bit haunted by the good old days...

  • @Glenn2601 Its a sin that this place was torn down, a fucking sin against the universe.

  • @manormaid wish i could have been there. Manchester's rave scene is coming back though. Warehouse project is an example of that

  • @abSURDub Manchester is full of Stag-dos and Hen parties. It's crawling with Sharons and Tracys, pissed up and screeching. As for the males, all from Iraq or somewhere east and looking for a wife (read visa)

Manchester has had its day I'm afraid.

  • @Glenn2601 Then on The Kitchen

  • Am I the only one that remembers this - At the end of the night the house lights went up - there was a siren noise that marked the end of the night and we just carried on dancing - the music rattling around inside us. • Went to the Hacienda in October 1989 it was a Thursday (student night) 10.30 I was introduced to the pulse, the heart beat that became known as Acid Music.... I saw a guy going mad on a podium, arms jolting to the rhythm of the beat of life, he was plugged in and from then on I was charged up too ! Mike Pickering, Graeme Park, Sasha - The guys on the door who I knew through their cousins.... The industrial fridge doors that, when opened, made you give sacrifice to the music - I miss those days

  • OMG disco bisuits were the BEST....Showballs were too trippy...dennis the menace were fun too.....

  • my wife started her club life in 94 at Cream, I started mine at the Hac in 89, when she tells me the Hac was shit, I just want to kill her. lol. anybody who didn't go there doesn't know the passion towards the HACIENDA. R.I.P.

  • d i s c o b u i s c u i t s !!!!!!!

  • I'm 19 and would trade 11 years of my life to have the hacienda part of my past.

  • @CleanSteppin I'm 43, lived through the hacienda but would be willing to swap my memories for your 11 years. Try mix riot .com for some old hac mixes.

  • @matt110567 41 mate, started going in 85, saw mantronix live there, joyce sims live and was there when acid kicked off..The birthday partys were always the best..Mr park owned that place for the 89 birthday party, when he stopped the music a 4am, and everyone thought that was it......Silence, then the instrumental of vouge by madonna kicked in, and then he dropped the acapella of candy staton over the top...Mate i don't know if i would swap moments like that for 11 years..But i do hear ya..:)

  • @ev3nflow you might think this sounds daft but I can't stand graham park, I loved the hac but when he started playing all that handbag/disco stuff -seemed to change things for me anyway, if you think about it that's when it started being a bit crap, compared to the nude nights etc, remember dj's like luv dup and greg vickers, justin robertson @ sleuth, andy weatherall @ herbal tea party not a handbag in site. Saying that I did have a tape of parks that almost wore out....

  • @matt110567 No i know what your saying mate..after 91ish they made it membership, and iand my mates we had them, but it was a attempt to weed out the 'heads', we know who we are, and well it did become a bit moody and full of teds, trying to get on the original vibe of the place..my mate jonny DJ'd around town and all over and we only wanted to hear detroit techo by then, and hated the pussy piano possie..jeff mills UR, juan atkins derrick may carl craig..we knew what was right..

  • @ev3nflow "...we only wanted to hear detroit techo by then, and hated the pussy piano possie..jeff mills UR, juan atkins derrick may carl craig..we knew what was right..."

made the hair that usually stands up stand up ...nice comment

  • Does anyone remember Damian the doorman????

  • Comment removed

  • @dixon97a

    Yeah, damian Noonan. Dead now!

  • THE YEAR I WAS BORN!

    I SHOULD BE THERE!

  • my name is young

  • does any 1 know where i can get all these tunes sashas crew respect

  • Sasha says he used to warm up for JDS and ruin his night by playing all his tunes, I used to do the same thing to Sasha at OZ in Blackpool, though I used to also drop some Ron Hardy & Blackpool mecca oldies like Slave and Atmosfear etc :-) People couldnt wait to get me off & him on :-) E'd up with Sasha

  • sasha, parks the pioneers of what has become 'mainstream' today. one love x

  • that cant be sasha he was never that shit at mixing

  • @superflypig1 the standard of mixing was poor compared to today, besides... sasha these days (along with dickweed) are sooo boring.

  • i am 100% sure this is bugsys in ashton because i was there and i bought the tape the following week and i still have it .i still listen to it every now and again. i was a bit confused to see it saying its the hacienda its definetley not.

  • @gaz6849 stop talkin shite idiot, bugsys ???? u total utter tool !!!!

  • the link disappeared sorry. It's on outlar.com - just put his name in the search bar

  • Further to my post below. Check the link above - in his own words. He did warm-up slots before moving to Shelleys in '89. He did scratch, as most DJs did back then. The music was more eclectic back in those days

  • For everybody who says he didn't play there read the following.

Hacienda DJ and next door neighbour Jon Dasilva got Sasha a try-out at his favourite club: "I played from 11 to 12, of all the biggest records, a cappelas over everything, and scratching. I must have completely ruined his night!" says Sasha.

  • @littleandy77 Fair enough, I stand corrected. My memories(& tapes) say a spring 1990 debut, but we're all clocking on now I guess, so thanks for the info and quote. Some of us are mentioning Konspiracy as well.... The first time I saw him play there the decks were on wallpaper pasting tables in one of those tiny rooms, long before the clanging piano's killed the 'bleeps and beats'. That was late 89 as well, but major shady... Totally different vibe to the Hac' eh folks?

  • @APublicDomain To be perfectly honest I didn't think it was him either! I knew he did a few slots there but didn't think it was 89. Time (and other things!) take it's toll though. I remember Konspiracy - those little rooms (caves) were scary and the vibe was a little threatening. I had to laugh at people saying Sasha didn't scratch - they just think he played 15 minute Blue Amazon remixes I suppose! Like you say though, a bit of history - you can't take that awy from us.

  • @littleandy77 yeh man jam mc's and justin robertson

  • i got know how

  • Sasha was playing in the smallest room of Konspiracy in '89', working his way up. If this is 89, it'll be either Konspiracy or Bugsys in Ashton. That scratch on 'Young MC' was one of his tricks for sure, but this is pre Hac' and Shelleys I reckon.

    Bit of history either way.

  • sasha never djd in the hac in 1989

  • @richtpop Sasha did the Hac on Dec 13th 1989, and 'Know How' was in the set.

  • oh yeah remeber the night the bouncers got stabbed police helicoptors & ended up in the 24hr snooker hall round the corner shit faced

  • Yellow Burger omg I remember those

    being passed around lol

  • Paul Cons was promotional genius who disappeared off the radar far too quickly. I last saw him in a Tesco supermarket in Rugby circa 1990 arguing with a queer.

  • ian brown said he was there this night, and straight after 12 o clock, some 1 got glassed,.he said it felt like the end of the good times,..fk ,i was only just findin out about it,..lol

  • pleas esomeone tell me the name of the 1st tune i had a shit load on tape but lost em one of a kind remixes aswell :(

  • @skopex18 isamar & compania .amor suave

  • @skopex18 - young mc - know how

  • I cant remember Sasha Djing in the Hac in 1989 , there again i cant remember to much about that year

  • i got the full mp3 of this set its from december 13th 1989, tis a good set

  • That was a Wednesday; Hot?

  • Hey mate, any clues where I could get that mp3 by chance please? Would love to have it

  • young mc what a tune the hac what a place. 1989 what a time we had ....r i p hacienda...did you know that they turned it into flats....funnly called that hacienda

  • they've turned everything into flats or housing estates! great comment tho, 89 forever!!!

  • first tune is actually amor suave by isamar & compania

  • almost ground zero,, so many people went on to great things after this night.

  • i cant beleive that nowadays i sit indoors surfing blogging sites over the weekend. oh for happier days

  • 44 and still going strong bud,,,, whats stopping you.??

  • Recognise the bassline 3.40. fools' gold perhaps

  • the 1991 new years set of sasha's is 1 of my fav, such a good set,

    peace

  • Young MC dropped over Amor Suave.. Sasha was and still is fucking genius

  • Ta for the info. 303. I'll be on the look out for that one me thinks...

  • @Redlee2230 if your happy to pay around £700+

303 are seriously rare to find, best bid will be to go onto ebay and look there.

the damn things are not cheap now :(

  • Anyone ID the track at 3.55?? Nice!

  • It's Phuture-Slam, classic acid. Love it.

  • hi m8 that is1 a FAT tune =D

  • top dj sasha

  • nice scratch

  • This is a toss up between parks and sasha! Not sure though! Yes all you non beleiving dicks out there sasha did play this sort of music!

  • Comment removed

  • i was there, now im there only difference i now performer

  • What in the block of flats where the hac used to be? LOL

  • LOL Ive just read all the comments to this mix...

I can just about remember the late 80's early 90's, when we used to go out the music ws was house or rave and that coverd a hole spectrum of music that was being played back then. If you ask me that was much better than different DJ's playing there one style of tunes.

  • lol tards. i pity the future. that's why you'll never win, you have no culture or history. Keep jacking off to lil wayne

  • Comment removed

  • ha ha this is funny how all these people are saying its not Sasha!!!

Get a fucking clue, this exactly what he played for years and this is the stuff that made him into a legend - And yes, he used to screath a lot because that was the style then - 88-90 was heavily influenced by breaks, hence the hip-hop smaples thrown in.

  • Er, those questioning, did any of you ever go to Shelleys? Sasha could scratch and beat mix very well - it's basically what set him apart from other DJ's of the time. That and big big piano tunes. He made a BIG switch from those kind of tunes - northern pill anthems - to progressive house after binning Shelleys before residency at Rennaisance Mansfield. Other commenters have noted that there were other DJ's around doing similar things - Nipper's been mentioned. Vertigo was another.

  • to the dude who says whoever is just chopping up the start of young mc......have you heard the single or what?oooh it makes me mad, it's not the most tecnical of scratches but back in 89 it was pretty pioneering stuff, on the uk house scene anyway...

  • I really was there that night and for 20 years i thought it was Mr Greame Park bering in mind id had a yellow burger ,a disco biscuit and half a strawberry acid tab,if you live by the sword you sure as shit die by the sword. Parks,Sasha,Pickering who cares it was a special night i still remember like it was yesterday-20 years on.

  • It was GP or possibly even Steve Williams, but not Sash' or 'back-spin' Pickering (all great blokes/DJ's though). I too was there, all the time. Infact, I built the podium that lived in the centre of the dance floor in '89. I charged them £600 plus my name +1 on the guest list. Great times indeed.

  • Whats a yellow burger.?

  • Ecstasy 1990 stylee.

  • Did anyone else go the night the bouncers got stabbed or shot and we all had to leave out the side door and walk through a tunnel of police riot shields? man that was crazy...everyone was off their rockers!

  • @fingy5515 remember it well

  • @fingy5515 i aws there on acid mad as

  • @fingy5515 my mum was

  • @fingy5515 Hahaha I remeber it very well, we'd trekked all the way from Leeds that night, managed to get in and about half an hour later all hell broke loose, we ended up spending the rest of the night tripping our bollocks off on saddleworth moor on the way back listening to the KLF's Chill Out with the sheep!!! lol, if I remember rightly it was a Salford crew who shot the bouncers.

  • @fingy5515 Yes i was there,It was over the control of the doors, back in the day if you had control of the bouncers?doors you had control of the Deals, seing it was £15-£20 for a pill £10 for phet,a lot of spondulies to made back then, for as Mad(chester) as it was, there has not been a party time like it since, shame the Warehouse days & the 24hr party people ended due to greed 7 gangsters!

  • @fingy5515

I was there, it was great because they closed us in for ages and we continued to party for a couple more hours till we had to file out and face a barrage of riot police and dogs, crazy night.

  • @fingy5515 happened all the time.. kid got shot in the arse on the dancefloor one night

  • Comment removed

  • @fingy5515 you experienced the business days of The Hacienda, wow you're practically royalty. What was it like

  • @subsub808 a very speical place mate had many a strange night there myself............lol

  • @subsub808 Respect.

  • there are no scratches on young mc. it starts with a straight beat, thats a live scratch. fuck knows if its sasha or not and tbh who cares

  • lots of djs added rap songs to their sets because as im sure you all know 88 to 90 was a mix of anything which sounded good because there was no hardcore or defined house scene which fitted our uk thing! its such a shame that everything is labeled and sub categorised now!

  • all the breaks and the scratch are on the record yeah.. who does nt know young mc ?? know what im sayin!! :~) sasha chops it with the fader a little!!

  • Their were 2 sasha'a mind one the REal one DJ Sash Manchester, the other was a coloured fella..

which one this is i dunno, but DJSM changed his sytle to go a bit softer about 91, and was still quality.

  • You're getting confused with Parks & Wilson I think....

  • Na bud, i've been to a few P & W nights back in the day.

As far as i was aware though, their was a 2nd Sasha(an imitator) who came on the scene a few years after the man hiself. He was no (real) DJ Sasha but used the same name..

  • this isn't Sasha. He wouldn't play this crap.

  • yes this is Sasha. he used to play a lot of varied records when he used to come up from Wales to play the warehouse parties and clubs like the Hac. The first record is 'Know How' by Young Mc, which is a stone cold veritable classic and was played by all kinds house DJs like Oakie, Carl Cox etc who dropped a lot rap such as this King Bee, De La Soul, Hijack etc into old school acid house sets.

  • How would you know what Sasha was playing in 1989 when you were 7 and from Australia? lol

  • well said. I hadn't bothered looking at his age or where he was from. He's probably seen him DJ over the last few years in Oz and assumed he'd been playing trance and progressive house on his laptop since the 80s!

  • Comment removed

  • man what id give to find a good quality image like the one o this video. Need it for a project.

  • not a fukin chance this is sasha lol

  • Let me tell you, Sasha was still DJing at Bugsy's in Ashton-Under-Lyne when this was so called done. If it's really him I'll show my arse in Harrods front window!

  • well said mate

  • Comment removed

  • ive got the live tape from leeds warehouse 1990

  • sasha never scratched

  • what?? lol

  • yeah he did, all the time as did everyone else at the time and he still does live sometime. it's just in the acid house days the breaks in the records were used more because they were playing such as varied amount of records

  • i was there mint !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • too many kids dont understand how sets were built back then

  • Hi def confirm this is Sasha.I have the full set from Dec 89 at the Hac and got the mix at the time.He was a warm up DJ at the venue plus he and S Williams took Hac nights around the N West in 1990 (Man Heights/Shaboo/Rickys etc)Its his scratch style where he roll repeat scatches the same beat or stops and scratches mid tune both styles you'll hear on loads of his mixes around 89-91.if you wana hear a really good example check out his first Eclipse set where he scatches Spectrum into The Tape.

  • hoorah, at least someone knows wot they r on about !! I have many tapes of Sasha when he played at Shellys in Stoke between 90 - 92. & have the video of NYE somewhere from inside Shelleys. That scratching of spectrum into the tape is awsome !! (Then black box accapella over the tape - THEM WERE THE DAYS!)

  • I think is dj steve williams or mike pickering

  • definitely sasha!! i was stood behind him

  • The dj in question my friends is jay wearden

  • Are you sure it's not DJ Nipper? He used to scratch like this...

  • Actually Sasha can scratch like that, but most of the scratches are on Young MCs track Know How.

  • agreed - he can and did, plenty of scratches at Leeds Warehouse New Years Eve 1990. I'm not sure there are any live scratches on this outside the bit at 3.00

  • ok i wasnt in the scene back then. ~

but im sure this isnt Sasha

  • based on his current music? it was certainly his music at the time, he caned Know How and played at the Hacienda. Unless thedarpacheif knows othewise I would trust the poster

  • this isnt sasha, he can't scratch like this

  • It may have been DJ Nipper.
