So are there more than just 4 spots available to record in? I keep hearing that with the xs8 which is what i wanna get you can only record four different instruments.. I'd like to record way more than that if i can. Are there ways to do it with the software for computer or what? thnx alot
Is it possible playing the keyboard just with one, playing melody and changing chords at the same time, using a full layer split? It's very important to me have this info! Thanks!

hi i worked it out now i select vocoder on performance mode on track 1 then press record for r mesure this puts it into patern mode then select all the sounds i want on the other tracks then when i want to record the vocoder press sample button and recrd it with my backing tracks and save it then back in pattern mode it will show as a waveform, it took some working out but i got there
hey hi man love the vids you put out i have the xs 7 i can not get the vocder to come out on a pattern mode if i want to record it. i just get a pad soubd? its fine in voice mode and in performnce i tried to sample it but then i just get normal vocals can you help? danny from uk
that makes sense because in pattern mode you are recording only midi (same in song mode) vocoding is audio work. My opinion is to do the vocoding audio recoding on your pc DAW i.e. Cubase seperate to all the midi recoding you do on the XS. The midi you can record on the PC as audio and then do the vocoding. If you insist in working on the XS then transform the pattern to song and do an integraded audio sampling to record the vocoder as audio on the XS. You will need the mem sticks for that.
Vocoding is not audio work. The vocoder analyzes the vocal input and uses it to modulate the filters applied whatever sound you're vocoding. Everything is stored as as MIDI values.
Could you please tell me how I can change the sound on my motif xs6 in a fast way.... I am playing alive and need to change sounds fast but I don't know how. Is there any way to pre set sounds and have them ready for when I need them right away?
i answered in another video posting just check out motifator website to find out how to set up voice changing in master mode with a yamaha pedal and you'll be cool
I updated my motif xs in the early days and it was working find except the performance there was no sounds no beats nothing,,, so today I update it again to the new version,,, and everything is super except the same prob whit the performance,,, What do I have to do? to I have to re-format the keyboard , or reset-restart,, what? thank you for taken your time to read this,,,
almost 90% sure that you have an issue in SEQ setup (could be contol in Utility too). This is a classic prob many have. If you have fooled around with some features and stored them you must go and restore them to the initial settings. I think a reset would do the job -the update does not change these settings- but try to just go and check out your setting first before doing a reset.
hi, thanks for the videos,...am a begginer... is there any way to record just a single voice and make it a pattern? say for example just std. kit drums.. and then can I use that pattern while playing?
depends on the gear that you own and how you want to work. If you got a good keyboard already go for the rack just for the voices and software. The workstation is useful if you intend to do a lot a work on the motif itself .But most people i know work on the pc complementing the board with VST libraries and a good DAW like 'Cubase'. If you want to keep it simple go for the board and work on that. To go deeper get a good PC, XSrack, Cubase 5 and 3-4 strong VST libraries like East West -My setup-
Great job and kudos for helping folks out there. Folks, if you've never played an XS, don't listen to the negative comments- they're from Guitar Center trolls who never buy anything and think 6 minutes of playing is enough to make a comment. I own a Fantom X7, a Motif XS and a Korg M50, and trust me- none of their samples even come close, in any catagory, nor do any of them "feel" more like a musical instrument. The Fantom comes close, but no. If you have to get a rompler, go with the XS.
I use Albelton, Sonar, Cubase and then do my editing mixing and mastering in Protools. I use the different DAW's for different things... But rewire to protools since most larger studio use it.
Since you recorded 4 tracks of the performance, can you assign each track to one of the 4 outs on the motif? because I would want to record each seperate track into my DAW.. Great work with these video's keep em coming please
I figured it out and plus I had put a call into Yamaha, the Mlan16e 2 card gives me 16 tracks of simultaneous audio, well you can get 24 tracks if you do passes. What you have to do is this, write the song in song or pattern mode, once you have the basic tracks laid down, then hit the mixing button on the motif which will bring you to the mixing screen, then select the track, for example track 1, hit the edit button and select the output tabs and you can configure the outputs
ok i just realized you are talking about an audio recording and you are 100% right on the process....I thought you were looking for midi which is a different story...
honestly i don't know. Right off the bat I would say no because this is free Yamaha software and I would assume they would make it availabe only for Yamaha products (steinberg is owned by Yamaha). But I'll look into it and let you know if otherwise.
thank you this was very helpful manual is little bit difficult to follow through, I just bought my machine a few days ago and it is like a mysterious puzzle to figure it out
Hey, wonderful job with the videos! Btw, can the Motif XS be used with Reason 3.0/4.0? If so, could you please put up a video showing us mere mortals, how? Many thanks!!
Hi there! I really liked this video and even the one where you explained vocoding with the XS. I read some criticism about the screen of the XS, about it being positioned such that one cannot avoid glare. Is this true? Is it a problem for you?
The XS is a wonderful machine but glare is an issue on the screen. You can change the XS position in the room or the lighting source but I think the Motif XS engineers fell short on this one... Still it's not so bad as to say that it seriously hinders the musicians work flow...
thanks papa for the kind words, I am a great fan of your videos. If we all shared information (like your excellent videos) on the XS we could all learn much from each other...
