  • great pics. I've been living in the US for 11 years now, but have been a fan of the Route 66 for like 15 years. I will be taking a short road trip from St. Louis to Chicago at the end of May, which will be the first time I've ever traveled on Route 66. I can't tell you how excited I am. Thanks for posting!!

  • Flagstaff Arizona,

    Don't forget Winona!

  • I remember as a kid traveling along route 66 in the back of my dad station wagon we took the whole summer to go from one end to the other. it was the best summer of my life . Thanks Dad I miss you

  • This may be the best vid I've ever seen. The subject, the media, the truth all sparkle as something we must want again. Our civilization is changing and the trend has not been good at all. Fight. Thanks so much for this beautiful panorama. Perfect.

  • You should have allowed a bit more time to actually SEE what the picture is with all the fadeouts there was no time to see what the shot is. nice vid just the same thank you

  • I got a very small taste of what happened to Route 66 when I was a kid back in the late 1950s Route 9 north of New York was Replaced by an interstate type highway and the old Route 9 at least what they didn't tear down for the new one became a backwater but nothing like what you see in this excellent video especially as Route 9 was so close the New York, it ran from New York to Albany

  • Could anybody explain me why the abandonned buidldings and streets? I dont live in USA. By the way, very good song. I like Nat King Cole so much.

  • @drmms Sure thing part of it is that the old Route66 was bypassed so it didn't have the commercial value without the masses of traffic it used to have However a lot more of it is that it's out west in open country and a lot of small towns that were in sparsely populated agricultural areas were being depopulated by mechanization and the loss of many family farms replaced by huge corporate farms with much smaller group of emplyees instead of the families and their many full and seasonal helpers

  • @elamite66 Thank you.

  • THANKS for posting this! One of many versions the late great Mr Cole did...but this is the jazziest one & thus my favorite. He's my all time favorite vocalist & this is one of my favorite tunes of his. You've MADE my day! :)

  • great song

  • great song by the trio.

    Also fantastic solo by Nat!!

In my opinion the most underrated jazz pianist of all time.

  • he is widely considered one of the most important musical personalities in United States history. Hardly underrated.

  • @migoratia

I second that emotion !!! Very well said !!!

  • @migoratia unimimaginiably beautiful in this age. thanks so much

  • Great solo by Nat.

  • lame slide show, each pic last a 0,001 sec... wtf?!

  • oh great another apple zombie

  • yup...great song, but the slide show was a bit irritating - chill on the transitions in the future.

And mcseib...one does not need a Mac to create good slideshows

  • No offense, but that slideshow could have been improved, I love the music but thought the slide show was not that great. Please, get a mac and use it for slideshows. Also, don't use those terrible transitions and show more of each photo. Don't use one photo for a transition.

  • loved it

  • Anyone...at 1:24 does the sign on the building say Tucumcare

  • Fantastic job!

  • This version is from the album "Nat King Cole: After Midnight."

    John Collins: Guitar

    Charlie Harris: Drums

    Harry "Sweets" Edison Trumpet

Recorded at Capital Jazz Studios, Los Angeles, Ca. August 15, 1956

  • ...To think Mr. Troup wrote this song BEFORE, BEFORE, LONG BEFORE the advent of the GPS.

  • Great video and song! I'll be traveling Route 66 this summer, from Amarillo to Los Angeles. I can't wait to catch a glimpse of the vanishing American roadside culture. Wish I could've driven it fifty years ago, but better late than never. :)

  • Loved the video. I ache for the "old days". Wish I could have taken a road-trip down Route 66 when it was in its prime. All the charm, innocence, and fun is gone today, but at least we still have photos, film, and memories of a better era. Thanks so much for posting the video.

  • I love old auto stuff and old buildings. You captured America!Back in the mid 70's and I was kid I pumped gasoline at my dads DX gas station.Thank you

  • A true piece of art.

  • great job....

  • great production ! regards bluespower

  • I love the very fast montage of photos to a really great song.
