If google ends its free calling through the US at the end of the year, as it was extended from 2010-2011 then through 2012, what are the alternatives to continue to make free calls. Thus my question of what happens when google stops offering free calling? Do we concede and go back to our cell plans? pay google (if its not too expensive)? Or simply, and easily I hope, switch to a free GV alternative?

Great production on the tutorial but you should remove the suggestion of using Voxox. I just wasted 20 minutes signing up to find out that they don't permit the use of SIP devices. Google 'sip voxox' for more info.

You do need to do this before you cancel your phone service because you wouldn't be able to down load any programs if you canceled your cell plan. Is this right or wrong?

@capman911 if your phone service is cancelled then you are still able to use the android market and download apps. I know you can still use wifi but I don't believe 3G/4G can be used. Basically think of your android phone like an ipod touch after the service is cancelled (only you use the android market and not the apple one)
