I use syringes (from my re-inking supplies) to dispense the alcohol. That way I can easily measure and make sure the alcohol gets into the stove and not onto the table.
It's an ashtray. Sent out by Marlboro Corporation. If you were signed up for their promotion "Marlboro Miles", they sent theses things out for your birthday. It would just show up in the mail. I have several but never thought about using it as a stove. Very cool idea. And I'm a non-smoker. I just collected the Miles to get stuff.

Looks like for cigars even. You place water inside and the hump in the middle will keep the water off to the sides, the points of the stars are for holding the cigar tips while the ash part can rest on the mentioned hump inside with putting them out by touching the water. Fairly simple to figure out IF your a smoker.
A friend of mine has a few of these, in two different sizes with the Marlboro logo on them. He bought them as, and are using them as ash trays.
Funny ebough, when I first saw them, your idea was my first reacfion as well. But I never got a chance to try it out. You doing it put a real broad smile on my face!
Flea markeds and goodwill stores are great places to find both things and inspiration.
I have to admit goodwill and other 2nd hand stores have always been a great place to find odds and ends to become creative with. I always find something when I go to them. You never know what you will come out with when you go in.
its a baking tin. the dough raises to form the star at the top of what ever bread or muffin you put into it. My mother had a few of them with the moon phases. at least that is what I think it is.
its the cooking insert for a fondu pot, the star notches hold the fondu forks. it would hold broth or oil.
