Yes and even darling Man Utd had Stiles and Crerand. I would like to say Best never was a dirty player, however, that doesn't mean to say he didn't, on the odd occasion, intend to hurt someone. I think most players have moments like this
Can I just write that George Best broke Glyn Pardoe's leg in a dirty and vicious tackle that is still talked about in Manc land. I believe that City hard man Mike Doyle had to be held back
@martynhanson Best was never a dirty player and took more than his fair share of brutal tackles over the years. Doyle was a hot head who quite frankly was not shy about dishing it out. Pardoe himself never blamed Best.
@martynhanson With respect, it was a 50/50 ball, and Doyle, big slow lump that he was, would never take on Best because he knew George would have flattened him.
@cozener1 bobby moore cost us the away game in poland why don't you blame him. What about emlyn hughes missing his tackle and shilton's feeble attempt to save a weak shot. There are 11 players in a team not just one
@MrMauricefinn Take your point but Hunter in interviews since blames himself for not dealing with it..It was perhaps the one stand out single incident in the whole night that was the catalyst for the Polish goal. Fair play to him for holding his hands up. Likewise he deeply regrets clocking Francis Lee although we all have sympathy for him as the portly forward was a serial diver/cheater.
@MrMauricefinn Hunter had the option to put the ball into row Z. He himself says he regrets that mistake. Shilton should perhaps have done better as well. If you want to play the blame game then look at the forwards in that game who should have scored half a dozen on the night. But Hunter's mistake just about summed up the whole sorry night for England.
@MrMauricefinn That would be because Bobby Moore was a world-class player, great captain, and a man who played football the right way, whereas Hunter was an over-rated hatchet man who played for the most cynical, hated team in English football history.
cozener1, the Poles never mention Hunter as being at fault for that famous goal.
They feel that Shilton could have done much better & where was the rest of the England defence? Hunter lost the ball on the halfway line, not in the penalty box.
