There is a lot more to go with low light tactics than just the techniques of how to hold the light. I just took ten minutes to cover the basic "how to" on shooting with a light. Aiming at a 120 lumen light when your eyes are adjusted to the dark is kind of difficult as a bad guy. Most SWAT team, almost all, and the military use a weapon mounted light, so having the light at, near or on the weapon is common practice. I will try to shoot more videos on this subject, but, check my others.
The FBI technique (non-modified) addresses the kill shot by shooting at the light. You can also see what a 120+ lumen light does to your night vision by simply using a mirror at various distances. And only turn in the light when absolutely needed to preserve your night vision. Watch his other videos for more info (this is like a part 3).

I like that first technique although I have to agree that being too honest with the target isn't a good idea.
So I'd say the mod FBI technique is what would work well.
