It sounds, based off of your incomplete description, that she was reacting instantly to your subcommunication. Words aren't really that important, it's HOW you say them and then HOW you follow up. Getting the fundamentals right with proper body language and facial expressions is HUGELY important. Were you smiling and exuding calm, confident body language when you said it?

But it's really how it's all put together including how you exude physical confidence. The "creepy" or "scary" vibe is definitely stemming from subcommunication issues that you're having.
