Of course Africa is addicted to aid. I'm not saying we shouldn't help poor people in there, but seriously, look at our own home countries. With the economical depression around, too MANY people have lost jobs IN EUROPE AND NORTH AMERICA. In Finland, where I live, some families live with only 200-400 euros per month, including the high taxes. Car tax, rent, TV permission tax..
We should first help the poor families in our OWN countries, then poor countries.

How about letting the nations in Africa become self sufficient? Most of the nations could use their coal and oil for electricity. The IMF and WTO put blocks in place so African nations cannot produce their own goods. Tough to do that without the electricity to turn on the lights in hospitals, schools and homes.
The western nations take everything out of Africa leaving the people in poverty.

Namibia can still feed itself. I don't know how many white farmers there are left in Kenya but it is not a lot. That country is about to explode again and that will have nothing to do with farmers but with incompetent corrupt people.
The sanctions against Zimbabwe are aimed against the megalomaniac Mugabe, not the people themselves.

Africa has received more aid than Germany did under the Marshall plan. In Germany people worked hard to rebuild their country. (Same thing happened in Japan).
What has Africa got to show for it? Incompetence, nepotism, factionalism, tribalism, racism, you name it except doing the right thing.
Stop blaming the West for your problems, face reality and do something about it.

I find it odd that the US / UK / IMF / World Bank continue to put pressure on African countries to NOT subsidize farmers with fertilizers when they know that the continent is a drought-prone region and many of the farmers are too poor to afford fertilizers.

Every modern famine in Africa can be traced to polices of the IMF and the World Bank. Back in 2005, Malawi was facing a famine that put up to 2 mil people in jeopardy. The World Bank / IMF / US / UK forced Malawi NOT TO SUBSIDIZE its farmers with fertilizers, but the new gov. refused, and went ahead with subsidizing, AND THE FAMINE ENDED.
WHY are they pressuring African countries to NOT subsidize their farmers when they KNOW that leads to FAMINE. We have to truly wonder WHY.

That's incorrect. It's the other way around. African and Caribbean / Latin American countries must be willing to abide by the rules of the IMF / World Bank / WTO / UK / US / France, ect. otherwise, they will get demonized and eventually thrown out of office.
Those countries MUST accept the neoliberal economic policies or else. The African "leaders" don't need aid because they already have access to what the need. Throwing bags at rice at Africans is a way to cover the crimes.
