  • A black belt only covers two inches of your ass. You have to cover the rest

  • muchas gracias

    Taekwon!

  • there is no 100% perfect thing, this is consider 99% near perfect!

  • this guy is awesome! his vids really helped me when i was studying for my 1st degree+...thanks for everything

  • @666PANTYHOSE this is a "tool" not a "hyung"

  • @TheSilva55555 tkd "tools" done well are ok. problem is nobody does them well.

  • świetnie :ó

  • Thankyou!! thankyou very much!!! You helped me to train and learn so much!!

  • In response to the comment about "old school" training not using sine wave, General Choi designed Taekwon-Do to be a continually evolving art "any undertaking that is perceived to have reach its objectives is likely to lose momentum, stagnate, and die" - General Choi. It is in the spirit of Taekwon-Do to embrace this change, and one of the more unique challenges of being an ITF student is to have to re-train muscle memory to conform to the subtle changes to techniques as it evolves.

  • ...i get that he is a black belt, but how could he be a real one if he keeps his watch on for the pattern?

  • Japan is better

  • hi guys, really need help with this question if you could why is hwa rang a good pattern, please help if you can ? :)

  • @livelaughlovecosican theres a book called "Tae Kwondo Grappling Techniques, Hone your competitive edge" by Dr. Tony Kermery and Steve Snyder. It has a pretty good view on how patterns can be utilized. Might help you out

  • @11mrOZ thank you so much !

  • Militantblackguy ur dumb and know fuk all if u think tkd's like that y watch the videos u dumb fag, say we have no respect but here u r disrespecting us lol as i said before ur a dumb fag do the world a fav and kill ur self and please dont procreate theres enough dumb terry tough c*$nt like u out there get a life cause ur ignotants is offencive even know ur probably just a little boy whos dudnt get enough hugs from mummy and daddy was probably a abusive drunk or crack head.

  • I thought the punch and downward knife hand were supposed to be in fast motion.

    Hm, maybe not.

Nice technique. Thanks for posting this.

  • the change in speed how he just snaps so fast is awesome

  • I simply do not understand how nearly half the people making comments on this video are practicing taekwondo. Please try and be humble and show humility. It is not about belts, ranks, who is best etc. It is about dedicating yourself to improving in all aspects of your being. Thank you.

  • @StickAroundBennett your right cause i just promoted to be a red stripe black but i'm still 10 years old man and i'm practicing hwarang

  • @StickAroundBennett Are you surprised? Really? TKD is commercial these days. No discipline, honor or respect just belts and competitions.

  • @StickAroundBennett

    Are u a nigger?

  • @StickAroundBennett Dude, this is internet. You can be whatever you want.

  • it´s the same that hwoarang perform embu at the tekken 3 intro.

  • Hwa Rang is something like male prostitute in the Korean history.

    watch?v=VtZ2lYKDHA8

  • @taihuu25go

    SHUTUP IDIOT

YOU DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT

  • @ICET100

    watch?v=VtZ2lYKDHA8&feature=related

  • Sorry for the stupid question but is making that snapping sound while he is doing each move?

  • @kb2cool In taekwon-do with every move you must exhale in order to make the movement faster and stronger - that's why you hear this snapping sound while he's punching, kicking or blocking

  • @kb2cool its breath control for more power.

  • Hwa-Rang

    Hwoarang

  • @TheGamerX10 lmao nice catch!

  • we are all martial artist respect each other and to the one performing the pattern thank you for showing such great technigues

  • i don't mean to argue on hear but one he does the form great yes if he may have a flaw but nobody is perfect sine wave is taught some places and is useful they teach it at my school but to come on hear and argue or say its stupid is disrespectful both to the man performing and to the ones trying to learn no offense but if you have a problem with the pattern or the guy doing it don't watch the vids and don't disrespect other martial arts argueing over it makes you miss whats good hear

  • i don't mean to argue on hear but one he does the form great yes if he may have a flaw but nobody is perfect sine wave is taught some places and is useful they teach it at my school but to come on hear and argue or say its stupid is disrespectful both to the man performing and to the ones trying to learn no offense but if you have a problem with the pattern or the guy doing it don't watch the vids and don't disrepect other martial arts as a martial artist you should respect all of them

  • Bravo! Powerful, clear, good fixations both on hand and kicks, and good radiation of fighting spirit in the form. All these said, despite my lack of understanding of Sine Wave, and the sound made in the mouth.

Unfortunately, the watch on his hand reduces the joy of watching his great performance.

  • if you show hate to sine-wave you show hate to the general. IT WAS HIS IDEA!

  • This to me is the hardest and longest form.

  • pardon my inexperience, but is the sound he makes the sound of his dobok?

  • @E65rox No its his breathing

  • I learned it a little differently

  • sine wave is the essence of taekwondo ITF - it shows relaxing between the techniques. if you don't relax, your technique is just stiff and unnatural. and still, if you have lower degree than his, i don't think you supose to critisice the Vth Dan - well actually Jarosław Suska is now VIth dan (2010) ;) he was twice the world champion and 14 times the European champion in formal patterns.

  • He seems to be bouncy and moves up and down too much in my opinion, anyone agree? it must be the preferred style of his school. His kicking is clean.

  • @cypresspeter2008 ITF emphasizes the "sine wave" technique.

  • @BassmanII

Ok, I will look up "sine wave" technique.

  • @cosmicBrian21. The bounce is called sine-wave. My school doesn't use it, but it is still recognized as correct. This guys form is flawless. Personally I'd like to see him demo the forms without sine-wave, just to see his technique closer to my style.

  • This was really great! What's with the bounce between moves? We are always told to never bounce.

  • Tomorrow my test alr......

    IM SO SCARED. :L

  • Awesome, the only fault I could see was the backfist towards the end was a little weak, but then what do I know. ^^

  • The first movement should be a soft breath

  • @TheLukeMg

There is no back fist in the pattern Hwa Rang its a two way block near the end

  • fold, step, Block, punch!!!!!!

  • you suck

  • PATTERN training is completely different from combat training. why is everyone making such a big deal out of the sin wave? it is a great way to express power, and CAN be used in a real fight. taekwon do isn't a style where you learn fighting through forms unlike karate or other various types of martial arts. it's not necessarily about fighting someone else, it's just patterns! so to all the karate practitioners (shotokan, koyamakan, isshinryu) we get it, you do things differently!

  • @cobiachi5thkupp EXACTLY!!!! This is why many dojos, like mine, offer both traditional taekwondo and practical martial arts.

  • he shouldn't be wearing the watch

  • Comment removed

  • In the school I go to,the brown belts learn this form

  • your money is being stolen..................THERE IS NOT BROWN BELTS IN TAEKWON-DO............BROWN BELT DOES NOT REAL.........................SOME TRAINERES CREATE NEW COLOR BELTS TO COLLECT MORE MONEY IN PROMOTION EXAMINATIONS..................if you investigate in THE TAEKWON-DO ENCYCLOPEDIA...YOU WILL FIND I AM RIGHT....AND YOU ARE LOSING YOUR MONEY

  • @RAUKI10 Their are so many different styles, different dojos, it changes through time. Saying their where no brown belts originally doesn't mean a thing. It was the same level, just represented by a different color. You cannot say brown belts don't exist and it is just a scam just because a dojo chooses to represent this level with this color belt. Besides, In original martial arts they only used one white belt, the dirtier (more colored) it was, the stronger you where, thus the color belts.

  • @RAUKI10

  • @RAUKI10 That information is corect. The 10 belts are: White, While+Yellow, Yellow, Yellow+Green, Green, Green+Blue, Blue, Blue+Red, Red, Red+Black, Black.

  • i took my test for the black stripe in the red belt.. this helped me.. this guys is just AWSOME

  • @filosofodemierda I'm taking that test today! :)

  • @BassTKD826 good luck my friend!

  • @filosofodemierda Thanks. You too!

I did really well with board break and sparring, but messed up a bit with one steps and techniques.

  • Got my 2nd dan grading on Saturday and this is my choice pattern. Thanks for sharing - great technique, and really helping me out.

  • THANK YOU! TOMORROW I HAVE TAEKWONDO TEST! AND IT HELPED ME A LOT! THANKS!!!!! I REALLY OWE YOU A FAVOR! TELL ME IF U NEED ANYTIME!!! I'LL HELP FOR SURE!!!

  • phhhstt thts what i ussed to doo hahhahaha

  • testing soon for my 1st stripe on my red belt scared help me cant c when he turns HELP MEEEEEEEEE please???

  • @roxxergrrl67 - ask your instructor to go over it with you if you're unsure, it's his job to help you succeed!

  • Whats with the PSHHTTTS

  • Comment removed

  • @ParagonalForce In Do you mean exhale after each move ? if are talking about that its part of timing and breathing technique in patterns we do in Tae Kown-do , and in other moves .

  • @TychoKai Thats not an Exhale, you don't go PSSSTSTE on an exhale.

  • @ParagonalForce It is, it's just a sharp exhale. Like, really fast and hard.

  • @ParagonalForce hahahahahahahaha i used to do that PSSSTSTE thing lol i'm bored so ya PSSSTSTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @roxxergrrl67 Haha Epic

  • How big is your dojang?

  • Just do it normaly you are bouncing up down left right diagnaly just stop wabbling around that would be way better

  • Sin wave to emphasize power. We use it in our Patterns to practice one breth one body motion and one technique. The General intended the use of sin wave as a way to practice how techniques are to be used and performed. I fight MMA using ITF and BJJ and let me say sin wave practice helps. I have learned to generate more power and conserve energy this way. For those who dont understand maybe you should practice sine motion and apply it to sparring.

  • This is called a form for a reason...um, because you are working on your "form." If you watch ITF sparring they don't fight with slow sine wave. I don't know why people in the tae kwon do world don't understand this. This guys forms are always beautiful and powerful. People that do the forms like they are in a race look weak and sloppy, and from my experience they fight the same way.

  • One of the best ITF pattern I have seen performed even on youtube grate power an technique .

  • I know what I'm talking bout, and I can tell you that authentic, old-school Tae Kwon Do doesn't bounce into the techniques (sine wave bullshit)..the old forms are done with WAY more power and focus than what is mistakenly presented here. It's a shame that this is what Tae Kwon Do has become in recent years. Poor, poor performance when measured against traditional Tae Kwon Do standards.

  • @Jedrulzu WTFomg!!!!!!!! big time!!!! man wtf can u know about "traditional" tkd do u even know who founded tkd ? Gen Choi Hong Hi. whach his seminars and the way he teached because He iNvEnTeD Tkd there was no before him. and he teached sine wave. and its not a bullshit because u use your body weight U are a shame

  • @Jedrulzu I agree with you on the sin wave. I do enjoy watching this guy, but my Master is old school, and her grand Master brought the training straight from Korea 40 some odd years ago. They didn't teach to bounce. I go to competitions all the time and place 1st in forms all the time, and I do not sin wave. And the judges who are "old school" always comment on my patterns, and can tell that I have "old school" training. Not that in which is being taught in most of these schools today.

  • @kfvillarreal0913 Well, gen. Choi himself applied sine wave to Taekwon-Do so, yeah... Besides Taekwon-Do is a modern martial art so it's constantly changing.

  • @kfvillarreal0913 Are you in ITF or WTF?

  • @Jedrulzu The general would be disappointed @ your comment, specially since you have no idea bout physics and the sine wave, which was THE GENERAL'S IDEA. So please learn before talking BS, otherwise go practice WTF.

  • May I ask a question? I don't know anything about Korean martial arts, so I'm interested, why is the form called Hwarang? I learned that the hwarang were a group of men in Silla. Does this form have any connection to them?

  • @GaolisVideoLog The pattern was named after the Hwa-Rang youth group that originated in the Silla dynasty (about 1500 years ago). This group became the driving force for the unification of the three kingdoms of Korea. There are 29 movements in this pattern, and the 29 moves represent the 29th infantry division where Tae Kwon Do developed into maturity

  • @dgpug Wow! That's good to know. Thank you very much. Gee, that helps a lot. Thanks.

  • @dgpug I'm sorry. I have one more question. Seeing that there are other Taekwando videos in the side bar, I was just wondering whether or not all forms have a connection to Korean history. I'm sorry, to steal your time once more.

  • @GaolisVideoLog I no you posted a long time ago... but I thought I'd answer since it seems the other person hasn't gotten to it.

Yes, all forms/patterns in ITF TKD have a connection to Korean history. The number of movements, the movements themselves, and/or the diagram that one moves in on the floor always has a "story" behind it. :)

  • @dgpug probably you found this in, Wikipedia!

  • That's my form.... but what was that strange sound?

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz huh he what happened i think i fell asleep!

  • @jessicabearville

YOU ARE SUCH A SLEEPY POKEMON

  • i do tkd but ours is i guess traditional just stance changes none of those retarded up down movements much better lockdown in my opinion

  • in taekwon-do we use alot of hip rotation

  • YaY!!! getting a red belt next week thx man now i already know hwa rang!!

  • going for my black belt sarturday, two years of training should be enought I hope (:

    wish me luckkkkk!!!

Im crap at remembering the bloody names of things!

  • @mynamesolddgreggg 2 years ehh.....can anyone say "black belt factory" or McDojo? This is the reason why so many people don't respect most martial arts.....sorry man, not your fault, but your instructors fault for misleading you.

  • @urallabunchofidiots for all you know, my mum could have had cancer, and i had to look after her every day and could only go to tkd once every two weeks.

So don't judge before you have the right information. Not your fault (:

and i haven't done it because I can't learn the words cos im shit, my instructor is amazing. so screw you, in the nicest way possible (:

  • @mynamesolddgreggg No judgement...just a fact. If you are testing for BB with only 2 years of training....plain and simple, your instructor doesn't give a crap about abilities...only the paycheck. No one and I mean NO ONE is BB material after only 2 years of training.

  • TEKKEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8D

  • These videos have been helping me to learn the patterns and whenever I forget something I just come back and look what I'm missing on my pattern. I teach Taekwon-Do to children and therefore I don't have that much time to go to all the classes that are for higher colourbelts. My 1gup test is coming next week and I wanna thank you for putting these videos in here :) Your techniques are awesome and very neat!!

  • Why do you call this video Hwa-Rang? Hwarang means "Thug" in Korean language!

  • For anyone who does Ch'ang-Hon (General Choi's) style of TKD. I recommend the '''TKD SOURCE''' website run by ITF-C (GM Choi). To find it just Google "TKD SOURCE'"

  • I realize how "unnecessary movement" could be construed with a negative connotation. Mostly I was commenting on the difference in systems while performing the same katas. The only thing I meant negatively was the apathy in his forms and the loose hands. While I'm not a fan of the sine wave I would hate to imply that it is entirely impractical. There are also probably reasons the association I studied under is gone? Politics? No one is perfect and "superior method" is overrated in martial arts.

  • Im learning this form right now! My instructor taught me half of it tonite and I forgot a move. Thanks for the vid! it helped alot! The hand grab is a bit hard for me,not the grab its self but the switching of feet positions..Ya know what I mean? Its around 0:21 Im not too gracefull but im getting there! :)

  • I studied Jidokwan Taekwondo for 8 years. The kata may be the same, but it is in this video I see the difference in the ITF TKD the WTF TKD and what I was taught through the now defunct IJF. There was no unnecessary movement (IE sine wave and loose hand movements between moves) everything was tight, intense, and stances were deep, sport karate was not encouraged, and practical application was taught. It's strange to see such a loose apathetic performance from a 5th DAN, even it is for teaching.

  • @smsguitar

Perhaps you could post a video demonstrating your superior method?

  • gracias al que iso el video ami casi se me olvida el tool este :)

  • Seriously, After a few months of non=training, I totally forgot how to do this. Thanks for uploading.

  • I dont know this marital art but it looks very usefull :D i wish much fun on you Hwa -Rang way :D

  • @dercssfreak2

It's Tae Kwon-Do, a Korean martial art that is quite popular, especially in the West (ironically).

  • the sinusoid wave is perfectly applicable in real combat. Bruce Lee used to say about the difference between karate and wu shu that karate was an iron bar. Wu shu is a chain with an iron ball in one end. That is sinusoid wave.

  • i m really nervous one month to go for my tast to get black belt

  • 5/5

  • sounds stupid but helps generate power, which is what he is demonstrating. Since making you moves powerful is the aim of doing the patterns I somewhat feel it is part of the pattern

  • According to my instructor - a sixth degree - audible breathing is a part of every pattern

  • Very good video , you have to appreciate people who conrtibute to the art, regardless of your association. People who make negative statments i encourage you to do better in front of a crowd, and showcase your talent on youtube. R.J.H

    3rd degree,

  • listen people!

Doing a pattern slowly doesn't show how rubbish one is! Slowness is used to demonstrate the skills and the techniques involved, and besides, if this guy is a 5th dan, I'm sure he knows what he is doing ;)

  • Comment removed

  • That's why palley...you don't understand power. It's called the sine wave and it generates tremendous power. Look, I trained with Renzo Gracie, I did american boxing, Muay Thai, Kyokushin and others over 18 years. Learn something before you sound like you don't know what you're talking about.

  • i am a student in hwarang

  • he forgot to cover his face in the last 2 knife hand guarding blocks but other than that, it was pretty good

  • Ya and guess what..... you don't have a video showing the "proper way" of doing this pattern

  • @SexyParty154

you're right i don't have a video of me doing this pattern.

i didn't say it was terrible, i just said that for me (hence my personal view) there are too many pauses inbetween moves.

i might not have a video of it, but i've more than one gold trophy in my house as a reminder that i know what i'm talking about

  • different people have different techniques, as do different masters. some people do their patterns like him, and some people do it more fluidly. both are correct.

  • I understand what the purpose of the sine wave is in respect to generating power. But do you think that someone would really have the time to do a full sine wave movement on the street? I don't think one would have the opportunity to bounce like that in a street fight. In Shotokan karate, we use things like hip rotation and vibration to generate power. Do they telegraph? Yes, but not as much as a bounce does. My opinion only.

  • Thanks for commenting :)

Its important to know the difference between patterntraining, and selfdefence-training. ITF Taekwon-Do dos not train selfdefence with bouncing :)!! The sinewave is only used in pattern, for display. In selfdefence we train with speed, reaction, hip, and more to genereate the most efficiant eldefence. Google ITF Taekwon-Do and selfdefence and you will see :) Happy New year!!

  • @trulshotvedt

You can use sine wave in self defence, but it would be continuous sine wave.

  • @trulshotvedt that exacly what my trainer say yesterday to me sorry i try with my inglish i will be having a tex on friday for green belt

  • Comment removed

  • @knb416

In a self defence situation, a swift hard punch in the face will do. If it does not knock him out, it will surely buy you enough time to get away. It is in a way sad that the easiest way is the most effecient.

  • @knb416

And do YOU think that anyone would even think about using this moves on the street ? It's only used for training purposes. Fights are Completely diffrent part of Taekwondo training.

  • qiankundanuoyi1 x-block i nopunde so it must be much lower than your solar plexus; dolyo chagi are to be 45 degrees

    as it is performed here

  • you mean najunde?

  • the double turning kicks are not supposed to be 45 degrees. should be kicking infront as usual.

X-fist pressing block should be around solar plexus level, just below ur chest.

  • kiking in front is side turning kick, turning kicks are done to side front. x pressing block is done at height of umbilicus, checking block is done at solar plexus height.

  • for the tecnique after the 3rd 45 dgree punch and before the edouble elbow strike wat is the move and X-Block ?

  • Some techniques (blocks and strikes) look very similar those in karate. The whole sequence makes me think of the Heian Shodan kata, especially the last 2 techniques (shuto uke?)

  • tae kwon do is a mixture of chineese kickboxing and karate but a bit more diffrent coz we use body science so its a bit diffrent like the bounceing and hand techniques to make more power into the hits but im a fan in all martial arts but i do tae kwon do maself

  • The guy who brought TKD together spent a lot of time studying Karate. We don't have Karate at my uni so a lot of people come to TKD and enjoy it just as much. Its very similar :)

  • there is no such thing as a tiger stance lol. googlevision there is no brown belt in itf hwa rang is a red belt pattern!!!!

  • First of all the "bouncing" is called sine wave, its what you do in Taekwon-Do, which gives you more power. 45 degree punches... ya no, L-stance obverse punch actually. There is no brown belt in ITF Taekwon-Do so i have no idea where you got that from. This pattern was preformed extremely crisply with loads of power.... you really shouldnt comment if you dont know what your talking about.

  • it depends on your instructor

  • @nagromgreen

There actually isnt that much power in his patterns. He is demonstrating the tournament style of ITF tkd, which soon will be replaced with power and actual technical ability. GM Choi (ITF-C) is actually getting the referees new training to pick power and technique over looks.

The biggest tell is his hips are already turned before certain moves are executed and the attacks are mostly hand movements instead of whole body movements.

Put simply very very neat but not very powerful.

  • @nagromgreen The only way bouncing creates more power is if you don't know how to use your hips.....otherwise it is a waste of time and force literally. Basic Newtonian Mechanics calculations will prove this. I personally don't like the sine wave forms but this guy is amazing.....very talented martial artist.
