i ws there visiting my family during this tornado.. and i just saw pics of my brother posted up on facebook of a tornado down by da matson crates in oahu sand island area, on may 3rd. 2011 crazy!!!!!
Also, waterspouts (which is what this is) are generally weaker than normal tornadoes and usually dissipate quickly after hitting land and generally do not warrant tornado warnings.
Wow, now that is crazy! I didn't think Hawaii got those things. I travel there a lot, just got back from O'ahu last weekend. Very cool that you captured that twister on film.
ACTUALLY this was a confirmed Tornado, and anywhere in the USA, even the world has Tornados, they might not be large and deadly like the ones in Tornado Alley. A land spout is a kind of tornado not associated with the mesocyclone of a thunderstorm...Every tornado is deadly in its own way.
That's merely a matter of chance. Tornadoes getting into the F3 and stronger range are much less common than weaker tornadoes. Technically there's nothing preventing Hawaii from having an EF5.
There are tornadic waterspouts, which form like ordinary tornadoes but just happen to form on water. They can then move onto land and cause damage. There was even a case where an F5 tornado moved onto a lake, becoming a waterspout.
Not that I know of, F5/EF5 tornadoes are extremely rare no matter where you are. Of the 3000 or so U.S. tornadoes that have occurred since the Enhance Fujita Scale was put into use, only 2 have been rated EF5. They hit Greensburg, Kansas (5/4/07) and Parkersburg, Iowa (5/25/08).
Yes, tornados hit OAHU every 5 years. This one in 2004 was an F2 which is pretty strong. The one that happened about a week ago was not even registered on the F chart but still was a tornado, so it's obviously not very smart for u to say that when there is video footage right in front of you of a tornado hitting OAHU... :P

Crud . I thought there were no tornadoes in Oahu and I live in Oahu . Now I really worried .
kurrentessa 3 years ago
just to ease your mind there ARE no tornadoes on Oahu. These are just landspouts which resemble tornadoes and are not very dangerous
razorblade48 3 years ago
No..
We DO get Tornado's in Oahu.
For example, the one we just got.
It's weak, sure.
But it's still classified as a Tornado.

i dont know if you read my comment correctly but it is a LANDSPOUT not a tornado
razorblade48 3 years ago
No that's a tornado. It was classified as a tornado. Look it up. Oahu Tornado 2004, and Oahu Tornado 2009. They were tornadoes
yoyoimhome 3 years ago
yes they were classified as tornadoes because the term landspout and since landspouts resemble tornadoes so much they just call them tonadoes
razorblade48 3 years ago
When was this? I don't remember there being a tornado in '04... Where was this?
