I had dinner w? Robbie about 10 years ago before he played a club gig in St Louis. Great guy, very down to earth, and damn good guitar player. All the Doors were very talented. If Jim were here today, I'm sure he'd be the 1st to point out that they were a group, not Jim and the doors. All contributed greatly to the doors unique sound.
Met Ray + Robbie, Asked Robbie, "What was it like working with Al Bundy"?( AKA ED O'Neill), Robbie said they had a lot of fun. Shook their hands after a show, and on stage, almost knocked Robbie over, He never got mad ,just laughed. Doors of the 21st Century +Riders on the Storm, seen them 3 times, they put on a great show, considering their age. Timeless music.
@TheLizardKing1967 why do you feel the film was shit? it was a dramatized history of jim and the doors. It was from how oliver stoned interpreted jim and the music. The acting was amazing, the sets were amazing, the film work was amazing. The singing was quite well. Oliver stoned put the versions of morrison that would best fit the role. Its a MOVIE not a documentary, so dont treat it like one.
@TheLizardKing1967 the only part of the documentary i didnt like was when they showed the montage of jim jumping around and acting all loose and crazy. The way the clips were put together and the wording on the narration, they made it seem like jim was always acting like a tool or clown. Oliver stone took the most interesting and entertaining aspects of morrison and made them the base of the character. The only reason people like you dont like the movie, is b.c the doors didnt like it. (- John)
@TheLizardKing1967 I do like stone, not enough to pretend to be him on youtube tho. I Maybe question why some psycho on the internet doesnt find his work admirable. Did you ever think its not all about jim, but more about the doors(all members acting as one to release our real life problems for a few moments.) . It was jim who ruined the doors, by going off and dying. Jim was such a Keystone man, so was ray, so was rob, so was john. Whats it called when you need 4 keystones?
@TheLizardKing1967 words of beaten man. open up your mind on what i said. minus my insult, you pissed me off and it was needed to keep my text from being boring. OPEN YOUR MINDS
@invanz0 How did you like how I tricked everyone into thinking I died July 3rd 1971 in Paris. I guess I showed thoses fuckers in Miami huh. There all a bunch of fucking SLAVES !!!! LOL
The movie was pretty good, but for a diehard fan it did little to nothing in offering a new inside look at the band. The footage is phenomenal but it lacks depth and focus. It's strung together looping the story along while Depp reads off fairly well known knowledge about the band. DiCillo had all the tools and potential but basically failed.
@apostolostv Sadly most of what you say here is true. When i found out about this movie i thought it would shed some new light on the band and Jim. Either way the unseen footage is a nice treat.
@apostolostv read Densmores book "Riders on the Storm" im not completely done with it yet but there is alot of nice information and cool shit in that book
It's on right effing now, and it effing RULES!!! They're waxing poetic about Morrison on P.B.S. saying shit like "He was the FRENZIED high wire trapeze act" and "Rock AND highly intelligent. The 1st time that had ever happened."
A little known fact is that the Doors HAVE already appeared on P.B.S. This isn't the 1st time. They did a half hour "Soft Parade" set with a full bearded Morrison at the P.B.S. 57th st. Manhattan studios in early 1970.
Narrated by Johnny Depp, American Masters: When Youre Strange is the first feature documentary about The Doors, premiering nationally Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 9 p.m. (ET) on PBS (check local listings)

@TheLizardKing1967 The only thing I like about the Oliver Stone film is the how Val Kilmer looks and sounds so Identical to Jim Morrison.
buckweezy 1 year ago
@buckweezy I thought Kilmer sounded like a Yak in heat.
mj011n1r 1 year ago
@mj011n1r maybe but the band thought they used Jims vocals in the movie so apparently they are somewhat identical

It's actually a well known fact that The Doors did the show "Critique" on PBS in 1969, not 1970.
