I have watched the entire match now...and altough I know that sports evolve as time goes by, I feel deeply shocked.
I started to watch pro tennis about 1994, and expected to witness an incredible exciting, or at least very good, match between this two all-time greats.
Now I have to believe that I got very lucky.
This match was almost( 85 % or so) about: Serve and response, or not, and if so, immediate definition.
Rarely I witnessed a rally of more than FIVE hits
It is such a rare event that two all-time greats of any sport actually meet being both in their primes, that constitutes this document a real jewel (think Marciano-Louis or Ali- Holmes age mismatches, for example)
Hmmmm,in 90's tennis surfaces didn't change a lot. Federer started with a fast grasscourts and if it stayed like that,he wold dominate on grass totaly. But he adopted very well on this slowing down of grass and hardcourts. Supouse that happened in 90's, I'm not sure if Sampras would have that kind of success. Then, that would aloud players like Agassi or Chang to have even more success than they had. That's why Nadal,Djoko and others are so god. Fed just has more variabillity then Sampras.
@DazOvTheStow LOL. Yeah, young guys like to serve aces against Sampras in their first service games against him! Safin did it in the US Open. I am sure Hewitt did the same when they played, haha!
Pivotal match of two careers. One will have theirs come to a close while the other will assume greatness. A very historical match and well played on both sides. Story in-between the lines: @ 2001 Sampras: age 29 yrs vs Federer: age 19 (10 years apart) Sampras 1st Grand Slam win achieved at 19 yrs (10 years before this match) The changing of the guards, if you will.
ahh seeing that centre court and hearing the buzz gives me shivers, its a beautiful sight and the sound of the ball is special at wimbledon. i also miss the older classic scoreboard! looks great! and the quality of your uploads defy belief!!
I have never posted before about vids but this is incredible!! In fact I have subscribed to both your channels and I'm amazed at the quality of your uploads. Thankyou and keep up the excellent work!! Spending many a happy hour watching them especially the Roger ones!! Love the guy!!
one day there'll be a web channel that will have every match ever recorded available to watch. until then we have to rely on guys like you. thanks so much for this.

How did tiger-haha tim ever beat Roger, it's like a totally different league, he must have been out the night before and only got three hours sleep.

And then he got beaten by Henman in the next round!

@Achilles94627 He must have been physically and emotionally drained. Henman was a great grasscourt player back then.
