For the animation mentor exercises i've used Maya personal learning edition. For the others, i've used motion builder

It's awesome. Unfortunately I could not finish the course. But I recommend it for anyone who is serious about animation.

i have looked into it but at the moment im at university, does it take up alot of time?cost alot?

The advantage of an online course is that you can manage your time. Yes, it was expensive for me. Take a look at the website for more information. For me it was a great learning experience. But it is totally focused in animation.
