Sorri - I am a bit late in here. Although oldies can be encouraged to visit the local Library to get free intuition and, indeed, use the many PC's for personal use: I feel it is a problem for them to part with a large amount of money to set up and use equipment, with also the extra expense of a monthly bill for service. I am lucky in being able to use a 'D link' in my room via wireless from my sons' pc. Popped in to see you now and again over 6 years !!
"like finding a packet of worthers originals in a porn dungeon" LOL!. peter you are a youtube treasure. allways interesting to hear your stories every now and again, glad to be subscribed :)
I talked my mother into getting a computer ... and her first experience on the web nearly ended up with her buying a blow up doll !! ( long story ) .. But now she is really enjoying online life ... she is on facebook and loving youtube because she can sit and watch stuff she watched as a child ..
@M4dMo77o Well done. good job you were there to help her......wherever would she have been to find a blow up doll? :) but seriously everyone does need guidance about the use of the Internet so I hope that you will continue to help her and I bet that soon she will be on the net more than you.
@geriatric1927 We have carers on our forum aged from 18 to over 80. It was wonderful to view what you are doing to try and get older people interested in the internet. I campaign to get carers free laptops for carers who otherwise may feel isolated and forgotten by society in the Uk.
We do this voluntary.
The carers who have received a laptop tell us they can do their banking and shopping on line and most of all make friends.
Peter: You did it again. You ought to make yourself available at the local senior center or Independent/Assisted Living facility, as a speaker and wake up those guys and gals. I too am a young 84 year old and I plan on doing just that. You are so right. These people are really missing out on a good thing. Bravo
Peter, I have tried to get my 77-year-old mother enthused in the internet... I have shown her websites, I have shown her videos, I have shown her how to google for things to do research on things that are interesting, and so on, but after some years of trying it has been no use... I was thinking that maybe if you went to live with her for a few months then some of your enthusiasm would rub off on her :)
@fehquig Well as I have said you cannot win them all but she may come around in time. Yes maybe if I came to live with her we could do some videos together. :)
Wish you could help my mother. I have tried many times to show her...But still she feels intimidated with technology. I enjoy each and every video you do.
Peter, it was the news item about you that got me on YouTube, which I had never heard of before. I was using the internet before that since I was 60, but when I discovered YouTube thanks to you, it opened up a whole new world to me at 65 years old. At first I just signed up so that I could subscribe to my favourites, but then I went on to upload my own videos. I never became famous like you, but I am happy that my friends love to watch themselves in my videos.
AS OF THIS VIDEO, THE MYSTERY IS GONE! I CAN SAY WITHOUT ANY DOUBT THAT THE RUMOR I STARTED, IS ONLY A RUMOR... YOU DO HAVE ON TROUSERS WHEN YOU ARE RECORDING.
BTW, at first I misread the title and thought it was about "6 Million(aire) Pensioners Don't Do It" and I thought it was going to be about not worrying where your next meal comes from.
i've thought of this a lot, and i feel too that my grandparents and other elderly acquaintances and relatives are missing out by not engaging more in the internet community
peter, you truly are a huge inspiration for us younglings out there, keep making videos, They are very good and interesting:)
