lou sings it like this because it's his. he made the song. it's him. it's not about you liking it, it's about him feeling honest while he gives it. imagine, horror scenario, this song on american idol. i'm sure they would have a strong voice and would accentuate and time as they think it's right. it would be hell. cheeziness would be insufferable. this song is too emotional in itself. the only way to sing it is detached like this - alaska. otherwise it gets to sticky and loses edge.
