Sting does a fine job here in this version of the song,, however I think it would turned out better if the tempo was slower ...Sounds a bit too "cha-cha" to me
I am so ecstatic I stumbled across this version. Although I loved the original, Stings' voice is just so amazingly beautiful. The orginal version was a bit hurried. I'm more of a relaxed kinda girl. The keyboards are ever so slightly kissing the melody while the bass dances in and out holding the bottom firmly in place. LOVE IT!!! Sensual piece.
LOVE STINGS VERSION! The Thomas Crowne Affair is when I 1st heard STINGS version & instantly LOVED it I was glad 2C the characters end up 2gether unlike the original movie. Rene's character was BAD AZZZZ & Pierce was SEXY; I wanted all of her outfits; The scene when their in the car & Rene is mad becuase of the photos is probably my favorite; Rene was GORGEOUS and that fur coat; OMG! But the scene was also Poignent because their true feelings come out! LOVE YA STING! U DA MAN! LOL
I love the remake, but the original kicks ass. The songs feel almost like two different ones. If you take them as such, you can start to enjoy them both a little better.
If you are a truth seeker, search "Truth Contest" in Google and click on the 1st result, then open The Present and read what it says. Everyone needs to see this. The Present will turn this world right-side up if it reaches enough people.
An intelligent, elegant and sensual film with great music, LOVE IT..........has to be one of my favourites. Fantastic actors - Rene Russo is a stunning woman and Pierce Brosnan, well he is gorgeous, just yummy :)
the dance scene in this film was possibly once of the sexiest scenes Hollywood's delivered in the last 20 years and lo and behold it had 2 people in their 40s in it!! So why do we keep getting these pathetically untalented 20 somethings thrown at our screens!!
Yep, it's a subjective judgement. This version avoids the theatrical "rushed" delivery of the original, but consequently allows the melody to really shine through. For that alone i prefer this version, but a jazz fan I was probably going to anyway. The only bum note is Sting's singing at 2:03 - ouch !
It's a matter of preference people. I actually like this version much better than the original. I have to admit the music today is not what it use to be however I do give credit to the few artist who does a remake in a way they feel it. I think the song was meant to be sultry because of the movie. Anyway, just one persons opinion......Excellent job Sting!
Am i the only one who thinks this song's so much worse than the original.... The backing track doesn't even fit with the melody - the original's piano was much better
@tomflaherty Perhaps if you would take this rendition on face value and not force the comparison in the windmills of your mind you might experience some enjoyment
I have listened Dusties version and I think Harrison version, but the tune in Stings' version is very nice and smooth and the sound simply float through the room. I think this is the best version. No ofence to the other opinion. Thanks.
Lots of good versions of this classic tune, but I'll take this version over the others with its poignant vocal renderings and impeccable orchestration. Sting & co. really groove out here! Slainte'!
I agree MrMchiasson. But this is not only what adult music sounds like, but what music can be to anyone. Music has it's roots in the evocation of emotions which this song really does. It tries to put into words the thoughts and images the mind holds and how when emotions enter, reason seems to slip, the grasp of reality loosens just enough that we do things we can not explain .
@Captainvideo54 I like your ideas on this. Sting is not one of my favourites but Mr. G. does have it quite right: there is a sophistication and elegance to this rendition which seems to capture the mood of the film perfectly. I believe Michel Legrand wrote ths music; I don't know about the lyricist but, as you point out, the words are wonderfully evocative in a glistening musical setting which, together, just makes one say "Cool".
@31iidna In my era, I watched this movie with Steve McQueen. Music was dynamite. I felt so sad at the end of the film. I thought: give her another chance!
Didn't watch this one for a long time... Oh, yes! A happy ending. They chose wisely. He was a few steps ahead of her. Hmm. It's a good thing because they are together now, and she's really happy. He is, after all, the love of her life.
Most remakes suck so bad, this one doe"nt it so good, much better then the first and I really dig Steve Mcqueen from the first one. I've bought the soundtrack as well.
@geoff100 Yeah, just came from watching Turner Classic Movies and a guy was singing it but with speed, i can't find who it is!!! He sings it better than this guy... To me at least.
You guys think this version is good? look up the Dusty Springfield version. one of the sexiest songs I've ever heard. She was some singer. this version is good also, don't get me wrong.
I love Sting's version. His voice, the drums and the piano transport the type of melancholy, tension and longing that just bypasses all my emotional safeguards and shake me to the core.
