  • Wow. Really entertaining and informative review. Nice demonstration of the guitar! Great playing as well! Thanks.

  • @ClassicsShow And thank you.

  • @ClassicsShow Glad you enjoyed it. I have a new youtube channel dedicated to testing vintage amps called soundcheckvideos, I just started it, check it out and let me know what you think.

  • 12au6 tube is a pain in the ass to find.

  • @Ahiboa Here's a website thats says they carrie them, tubesandmore . Good luck.

  • @raul1234me Yeah, luckily. I found this package in a thrift shop! Guess how much I got it for? $100!

  • @Ahiboa Some people have all the luck.

  • @raul1234me I just need to find a replacement 12au6 and the amp should work, guitar sounds great man.

  • @Ahiboa did you try tubesandmore .

  • im getting one in march

  • @bleufishtv Yea Ha, let me know how it plays and sound.

  • I can't find this guitars for less than 700 dollars???

  • @15381472 Have you tryed Ebay.

  • I bought one and recieved it this afternoon by fed ex in Paris. (I'm a swiss moron post in France...) it looks lovely but there is no lamps in the amplifier. What should I buy to complete this marvel ? thanks for your help

if you have an idea and five minutes write me at sarclo@sunrise.ch

  • @sarclo1 Alright, congrats, sometimes the tubes(lamps) fall out during shipping, look around the inside shake it a Little to see if there in side the amp. If not the tubes are not uncommon and there should be a place to buy. Look for vintage Valves or Tubes. The number under the hole were they go is all you should need to order. Good luck and jam on.

  • Anyone have one for sale..Prefer UK seller

  • @Bigsbeee Probly have your best luck finding one on ebay. Good luck.

  • dude that thing is so cleen !!!! is it a re ish

  • @alinealows Nope, its 49 years old just like me.

  • It's not a rip off, it was made by danelectro for sears

  • If it's in good shape, thats a good deal.

  • hey there is one on Raleigh (NC) Craigslist if someone is looking for one. I am not the seller just saw it and wondered what it was and found this post.. its listing for 400

  • danelectro rip off

  • Man those things still sound good, even after all these years. I have the red 2 pickup model (1457). I got shocked pretty good with mine playing at a pool party one time. Started paying attention to which way the plug goes so that doesn't get me again. Wore out the original bridge and called Dan Electro who suggested a replacement for it. Installed it and it looks great. Even nicer than the original. Probably ruined the resale value with other changes I have made but still looks & sounds good.

  • @wb4oum Yea these things are awesome, just hang on to your original bridge for resale, even if its unusable.

  • i tell you what .

i have one. i ought to use it far more often .. and its funny.. when i bought mine i had told myself that if i ever saw one for less than 400 bucks id get it .

then one day i looked at craigslist for the first time .. and " whaddya know" there was one for 280 ..

    i got it for 250 .

  • @PHAEDRIDER way to go, I ve been checking CL for 2 years and never seen on for less the $500.

  • I want that guitar

  • @Walruson sorry no can do. find your own. Thanks for the comment.

  • Enjoy it. get a good boost pedal for more distortion and volume.

  • Did anyone got an electric shock while playing on that guitar? I've heard that it's possible especially when you play the guitar and sing to a mic at the same time. I've heard also that it happens because amp's not grounded. I've got 0 knowledge about electronics....so what should i do? Go to the specialist? Or there is another simple solution? Anyone?

  • @rottensaliva Yes you can get shocked. If you sing into a mic thats pluged into another amp. Its happend to me, it doesnt nock you down its just a little jolt to the lips. To fix it you need to have a three prong ground plug installed. take it to an amp guy he should charge about 20 bucks.

  • @raul1234me

thx for your help... oh... and a great review. I bought mine Silvertone after watching it.

  • right, at 58 I try to hang on to brain cells now instead of exterminating them. you know I think the 1448 overdrives better then my 1449 does. at least it sounds like it in the video.

  • got mine in 1966. still put'n out. mine is maroon color.

  • @TheBabyboomkidof53 I've never seen one in maroon , bet it looks cool.

  • Comment removed

  • @raul1234me I call it maroon. its a red sunburst.starts out a lighter shade of red at top and darkens lower down till it looks maroon. mine is the 1449 model with dual pickups and larger amp and speaker. danellectro reissed these guitars recently without the amp in case.they put a coke bottle headstock on instead of the meat cleaver silvertone used. spoils it for me. exspecially no amp in case. why did they bother?!

  • @TheBabyboomkidof53 Aah yes the dual pickup model very nice, is the tremolo still working.

  • @raul1234me that tremolo was lost long ago. for a economic little stomp box it worked great ! I used it all the time when I was learning how to play pipeline and lots of other surf tunes.

  • @TheBabyboomkidof53 It should'nt be hard to fix, maybe just a tube.

  • @raul1234me no I mean it was really lost long ago. I haven't seen its whereabouts in I dont know how long.probably when I played in a couple of high school bands with buddies back in the late 60s it got lost in transport along the way. we ate to many brownies if you know what I mean.

  • @TheBabyboomkidof53 , Yea there was alot of that going around.

  • Man yours is in great condition. I got this guitar when I was about 10 years old. I am now 31 and still have it but the neck is cracked a little due to the case popping open and the guitar falling out. The tubes are also shot. I would love to restore this thing but can't really find any spare parts out there.

  • @jessxcr I would cry if that happend to mine. Go to ebay they have these for sale all the time, parts to.

  • I have an old Kay and it's awesome but I would love to get one of these. I really dig these old Silvertone, Airline, Kay, Harmony stuff.

  • @StevesGuitars I'll be doing a demo for the airline amp and case soon.

  • white stripes!!!!!!

  • @ioulios YAAAA

  • I have a stratatone that I bought at a antiques store years ago but half the body is black and the other half is a wood finish. Some one must have done some modification to it because I have never seen one like this.

  • id take one of these over a gibson...no joke, i love these old catalog guitars

  • WOW! i found this for $80 yesterday at a pawn shop. It sounds sooo good! The case shows some wear and tear, but the guitar is nice and clean! only the neck has wear, which makes it play like a dream. Yours looks like it is in very nice condition

  • Hey detsember, thats an Alden Stratatone 1420.

  • @raul1234me

If you could do a demo of that one too, I'm in a market for something like that, but not sure about the tone. Thanks.

  • @detsember , yea i can do that. the pickup is not as hot as the 1448, great tone for a clean sound , and slide guitar.

  • What is that black guitar hanging on you wall?

  • Thanks PriyancasFaCe, I used D'Addario XL .009-.042, extra light strings.

  • what strings are you using on the guitar? Very nice video, helped a lot. An underrated guitar definitely =). killer tone!!

  • It was sold by Sears, but they were made by Danelectro

  • i bought a same guitar (in a moderate condition) and paid 450$. I got jipped... but damn if it doesn't play and sound good.

  • @kraftwerk456 . if its in playable condition thats what there going for. worth every pennie. ive seen some in guitar stores for $700 that were barely playable. itch nee sun she.

  • cool video i just bought this thing off ebay and im pumped to try it out

  • so flippin cool.need one of these guitars and a silvertone 1448 head and I'm set.

  • The secret to making these amps sound even better is to replace the 12AU6 preamp tube, with a 12BA6. The 12BA6 has slightly less gain, and really gives more body to the amp. With the 12AU6 at full volume, the amp gets a bit too saturated and compressed, especially the bass notes. Of coarse, this is just an opinion, but it really does give alot of body, which in turn translates into volume.

  • Thanks for the suggestion, i'll order one and try it.

  • @mageedis good tip, thanks!
