They call it "bachatango", a mix between bachata suaves movimentos and typical legs moves from Tango. I don't like it because it's bringing together two danses already very rich : bachata is erotic, man and woman making love, while tango is sensual, man and woman fighting. Tango is a march, with total control of footstep and rythm to the man, while bachata has this 4 steps basic. This bachatango kills tango improvisation and render bachata less erotic. But that's kind of spectacular, so why not!

:) you're a salsa guru, does salsa always go "Step, step, step, pause/tap"?! it's danced to a bachata song, so if it's on the beat then you're dancing bachata. You should check the bachata clips by dominican dancers, some of their footwork is crazy & you'd struggle to see any particular patterns there but again bachata is a Dominican dance!
