@callytran Not sure - mine always seem to recognize me and the grandkids though - I've had them for a few years now. I think it helped that they were inside in a 50 gallon for a couple of years though.
I put your video in my Favorites! I loved it. I have 5 yellow-bellies and am planning to have a pond made for them this summer when we move. My turtles like to be petted too. They will extend their necks waaaay out for that. Thanks again!
@cranky29 we live in florida so it doesn't get that cold. last winter when it did get around 30-40 at night, we brought them in and they had a great time in the spare bathtub though.
@ItzOnur handle it atleast once everyday, or start hand feeding it a few pieces of food a day!!! My turtles get pissed if i just put food in and dont hand feed them a few first lol They wont touch the other food till i had given them a few myself!
NEVER EVER EVER pull your turtle from its leg or tail or anything EVER i saw u do it at 0:47 and i just wanted to warn u to never ever do that for the safety of your turtle nice video and pond btw
I know, some people overact... but you DO really have to look out because paws and tails of turtles will dislocate pretty easily. Rather handle them at their shield wich you do good. And by the way: Your touching her paw when she's eating. Turtles really don't like getting distracted while eating, so she may snap you further on. But hey, i love to see people handle and care for their pets as nice as you!
@ladyazula thats what their suppose to do, is eat the fish! Its their normal food! Ive gone through around 200 feeder fish, but theres one they wont touch, and still dont even though they eat the otheh fish. Had this same fish for around 6months and its trippled in size lol
Well there's 5 big turtles in there. Also, I had gotten around a dozen comet goldfish - which were small and supposed to be food for the turts - but they didn't want them. Also, there's small rosies in there that the turts didn't want either. It's funny - they always ate the fish when they were in the tank - but not interested in them in the pond - go figure.
not really - i keep an eye on them. But they may crawl out to lay eggs in the dirt. We have a wire fence dug into the ground under the wood fence, so I know they can dig, but they probably would just be interested in laying any eggs and going back to the water.
ooh your so lucky to have a pond! I wish I could have one for my goldfishies! Then i'd get koi! you know your turtles are going to eat those fish right? lol
of course, the smaller fish have been in there for about 2-3 weeks and the bigger ones for about 1 week., I got them for the turtles to eat - but so far, they could care less.
Can Turtles reconize their owners?

thanks for the heads'up, however I am always very gentle and careful with holding Eenie's paw.
I was just guiding - not pulling him as it may have looked. Didn't mean to send a wrong message to other turtle lovers out there.

is the liner in your pond hard plastic?
Couchlog 2 years ago
Yes, it's one of those hard shell preformed ponds. Why, hope it's not bad for them - they've been doing great for quite a few months.

how big do these thing grow to..
redgaridose 2 years ago
wow! normally when someone touches turtles they imediatly hide in their shelves! why doesnt yours hide? ;)
winxlover001 2 years ago
Yeah, but I had Eenie since he was about 1" big. I hand fed them and always interracted with them.
I thought it was pretty cool when he let me lead him around the pond by his little foot.
The others (there's 4 more in the pond) still just kinda hide from me.
dalsch 2 years ago
wow! thats cool! because i think it takes a while to let turtles get along with people! The other 4 will eventually get used to being with you right?
winxlover001 2 years ago
yeah, they will see that when I come out - that's when food will be there, plus, I think they will remember me from inside when they were in the tank
