wow... who ever that 1 person is must be deaf, hates music, or just utterly insane!!!!!! this is true genius right here! i dnt see this could possibly be disliked...

Quelle virtuosité ! Quelle maestria ! Maurice André...Le plus grand trompettiste de tous les temps...Jamais égalé ! Un bonheur de l'écouter encore et encore !
@marlyharris - You must remember though, that the human voice is not as flexible as the trumpet. I don't think it could be sung cleanly at that tempo. Even Beverly Sills, as good as she was would do it that fast. Beside, considering phrasing, the soprano also has to get the words out. Something you don't have to worry about with the trumpet, obviously.
@rjholtmus2 - Although I studied trumpet for one summer at the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music, I know very little about trumpet technique (I was awful). However, when it comes to voice, I do not agree with your comment that the human voice is less flexible than the trumpet. A properly trained excellent vocal instrument should be able to sing rings around any instrument, however skilled the instrumentalist.
@marlyharris - You are probably right. May be "flexible" was not the proper term. Perhaps I should have said "clean". The articulation, especially in this trumpet recording is much cleaner than most sopranos who "attempt" this aria. There are a few, Roberta Peters, Beverly Sills and the ilk, who have the flexibility and clarity in the runs, but those voices are few and far between. But as I said earlier, tempo has to be considered. Too fast and even the voice gets sloppy.
@rjholtmus2 and Elizabeth Schwatzkopf. In fact Maurice sounds quite like her on the arpeggios. I wonder if he was familiar with her recording of it? Maurice actually recorded this twice. Once for Erato and once for EMI. This sounds like the EMI version.
@marlyharris I'd love to see a vocalist sing rings around a good violinist. It's simply not possible to keep up after a while. The same probably holds true for flute and clarinet. It's telling that a passage like the arpeggi in this aria are the exception for the voice, while for, say, the violin, they are the norm.

Maurice André is simply an outstanding unmatched performer. Can the future "produce" another trumpet player of his format at all? I doub't . . .

He's marvelous; his playing could teach a singer how to phrase this music. Thank you for a delightful video.
