awesome. i like monitors but dont want a huge one. this is perfect for me!! lol. Do adults feed on crickets too? or can they be fed larger prey. How do you get food for her? Do you buy it from a store like once a week or what? I dont know how people handle feeding lizards that eat crickets/meal worms every day.
@sk8ergangsta2003 She feeds primarily on crickets, however she'll get superworms and other various things once in a while just to spice things up. The largest prey item she ever consumed was a prekilled hopper. That's probably the biggest thing she can swallow whole. As far as getting food for her daily, I work at a pet store so that's not really an issue haha.
@frankiecasa are things like crickets and superworms cheap to feed her with? How much would you say it would cost to feed her in a week? Can they live off of mice or do they need to be fed the other insects too?
@sk8ergangsta2003 i would recommend against feeding an ackie strictly rodents, variety is necessary for them, in my opinion. they are fairly intelligent creatures and it is easy to see them become mentally stimulated when presented with different prey items. crickets run about a dollar a dozen, and she'll get about three or four dozen in a week. and i buy mice in bulk, so, for me, a hopper costs 19 cents haha. however, a hopper usually costs about 2 dollars or so at a pet store.
@frankiecasa yeah... possibly, unless i get a bunch of stuff that eats crickets. ive never thought it would be worth breeding mice or rats but i guess alot of people do. Usually when they have like alot of snakes though...
I don't know an exact size, but if I had to guess I'd say around 14" or so. Right now it's in a 20 gallon long. I'd say that's about the minimum they should be kept in. If and when I have more room her enclosure will be upgraded. Haha and yea my tegu does what your tegu does too!
hmm i haven't had her her whole life, when i acquired her i think the previous owner said she was a year or two. i think... id have to check to be sure.
Good hunter :) Great vid

@frankiecasa ahhh, thanks, i was just wondering about the mouse thing.
Thats not bad for $4 a week. (alot more then it is to feed my ball python thats for sure)
I also buy mice in bulk for my snake. Pet store prices suck! If I got one Id probably think about breeding crickets if thats even possible lol...

@sk8ergangsta2003 trust me, breeding crickets is not worth the trouble unless you'll be making a business out of it.
