that was my first reaction, then i read your comment. Spot on! He had it all in 1976, amazing. Light years ahead of Rhoads and the pack. This is proof, along with the other 40 songs. I would love to hear ANYONE playing like this in 1976. Everyone ripped him off. If Lynch or Rhoads, or Jake had anything like this in 76 it would be on you tube. They all copied him after 78, wimps.

Exactly! People just don't get it. I saw this one dumbass kid commenting on an Eruption post on Youtube calling it a "Pentatonic Minor Piece of shit." I hate to use the cliche, but Eddie was the Hendrix of the late 70's. He changed the way people approached the instrument. Not to mention how well Ed knew his theory.

well it is minor pentatonic. but the thing is that eddie is a lick and pattern based player. he knows his theory but he moves his licks around whether they sound in key or not. but it is largely minor pentatonic based. still an awesome solo.

Eddie solo here is pretty much the same as the solo on Diver Down. Actually Eddie plays the 'Last Night' solo almost note-for-note like the 'Hang em' High' Largo vid solo. All I know is that the solo played on this original demo is as smokin' as the 'Hang em' High' solo on Diver Down. Bitchin' guitar solo.

Wow that is so cool. Hang em High would be in my top 10 fave VH songs so it's great to hear this. I'm glad they changed it as the DLR's vocal melody is a lot better on Hang em High - just flows better. But this is still really cool - great stuff!

Eddie did not play bass on fair warning.He played on the Fair Warning DEMOS, buton the album it was Mike. Mike only played on three songs on VH3 and NO songs on the Best of Both Worlds album.

Eddie did not record any bass lines on any of the VH albums. In regards to Fair Warning, this is the album that was intended to be Eddie's solo record, because at this time he wanted to leave the band due to not getting along with Roth. He also had to rerecord the solos in the middle of the night due to the label/Ted Templeman wanting him to tone things down.

Michael Anthony is credited with songwriting on VH3, however he did not play a note on that album or Best of... It was the beginning of the end for him on VH3, which is a mistake of course. He wasn't invited to do the "reunion" in '04 with Sammy, howeverSammy wouldn't do it without Anthony.

Ed didn't record any Bass tracks ever until he did that piece of shit song with Sammy for the Sly movie "Over the Top". Micheal Anthony is the most underated Bass player ever, right up there with Rocco Prestia and Stu Hamm.

Puh-lease. Eddie did not record the bass on the records. By your own words, you say the bass would have been better if it was Ed. This song was the best part about Spiderman 2. When Spiderman falls from that tall building and he catches the flag pole. I can't believe Van Halen gave Martin Scorcese permission to use this in his Spiderman movie. The song ended just as Robert Deniro kicked Spiderman in the nuts.

This absolutely cool! Where can I get a copy of this bootleg? I have a bootleg of Van Halen Live in Tokyo 1978 which has "Last Night" but the guitar is different...this version is much better. BTW..excellent job with the video clip montage...I really enjoyed this!

I'm talking about the rare demos and GREAT music they wrote from 1974-1977 before they became famous! Can't find it or never heard of it? Don't worry!
